Which 3 would you choose?

So many of you may have heard that California may become "shall issue". This would be a great victory for gun rights for all citizens obviously.

Let's assume hypothetically that if California starts issuing CCW's like free states, it may not be as bad a place to live, and you're thinking about moving there. Maybe you got offered a great job, or your wife wants to move there, or you have family there. Whatever it is, hypothetically you are now moving there.

So currently the "may issue" rules stipulate that you can only have 3 guns on your permit that you can carry. You are also limited to 10 rounds, as that law is not changing anytime soon.

Which guns do you choose?

I'm thinking something small; something medium for most normal days; and something bigger, for use outdoors or worse areas of town.

I hope never to visit, let alone live in the PRK, but if I had a CA permit my three listed CCW: 1911 .45, J- Frame .38, mines an old all SS 649, and my KelTec P3AT. Those three pretty much cover the CC spectrum, for me anyway.
Small, medium, and large, depending on how much concealment is appropriate.

I have three guns that I carry, depending on attire. I have an HKP2000 (compact) OWB, Ruger LC9 for pocket carry (usually when I need to have a tucked in shirt), and last a Ruger LCP for when its "I can fit that or nothing", which honestly almost never happens. Lately I've been carrying a Glock 19 quite a bit too in place of the HK. Regardless, those three cover me pretty well and allow me to dress as I prefer rather than how a gun dictates.

NOT MOVING
But just to play along I'd take my LCR,HK P7psp and STI VIP 45acp.
and then I'd drive them nuts switching them out weekly

One of the happiest days of my life was when I saw California in my rear-view mirror, never to live there again.

If Cal did adopt shall-issue and they extended reciprocity to my Utah permit, then perhaps I might choose to visit the state. San Diego is pretty nice, after all. If pigs ever fly and this does happen, then I'd carry just what I carry now: an XD 45 compact (large) most of the time and a S&W 442 when I can't hide the XD.

The 3 guns that I currently carry follow the rules on CA and I am in PA. A beretta px4 .40 with 10rds, a kimber cdp 45acp with 7rds, and a Taurus 455 45acp revolver with 5rds.

In PA we are not limited to 10rds, those are just the pistols I like to carry, they are the ones I practice with and am very comfortable with. I just carry 2 spare mags for the kimber and beretta on my weak side, and 4 extra 5shot moon clips with the Taurus. All are very concealable too.

Currently my 3 handguns would BE my 3 handguns :p

That said, I will never live in California for many reasons, their stance on gun rights being one of them.

If I had to.

If only 3 handguns, 10+1 capacity for CCW. I'd go with.
(1) Glock 26 (can use higher cap mags if pre ban) and can be used as a BUG.
(2) Ruger SR1911.
(3) 3" .357 k/L frame. If in the Northern part of state, replace with 3" or 4" N frame .44.
Should cover most over the bases with these. YMMV.
But I'm not going there any time soon LORD willing, I like the South just fine.:D

What does California allow you to bring in? Can you take guns in that aren't on the DOJ approved list?

I'm a little puzzled by the OP. It seems to measure the degree of gun freedom primarily by the ability to carry a handgun concealed. To me, far more important is being able to own "black rifles" and their normal-capacity magazines. (And these are far more relevant to the original purpose of the 2nd Amendment than are concealed handguns.)

When California changes its rules on AR-15's, then I'll consider moving there. Which will be a cold day in hell.

Life is full of compromises. I consider the ability to legally carry concealed, with a limit of 10 rounds to be a nice compromise to living in a beautiful state with amazing weather, that did not have this freedom before.

Again, this is all hypothetical as there are many other beautiful states. This would be nice for the people who do live there and can not leave: job, family, etc.

None of my carry firearms are less than 10 rounds. And the very fact that they would be listed on my permit makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Would rather melt down my firearms than ever live in a state where I had a short list of what I could carry.

I live in a CA County (Kern) that is nearly shall-issue. I've had my ccw permit about 15 years and we have always been limited to 3 guns, but at my last renewal, I found that I could have many more than that. Don't know when this changed or whether it is just my county, but this was a pleasant surprise.

My physical permit is the same and there is only room for 3 guns, but additional guns are printed on the back.

Just so you know where I am coming from...

I lived in CA for 30 years. I own a house there. I have family and close friends there. I owned an ocean-going sailboat and sailed the Pacific ocean. I skied and hiked in the mountains. I know the places in the desert where you can simply set up and shoot anything from pistols at close range to rifles at 800 yards. I have what passes for a "great job" in an industry where I could easily go back and be making a healthy 6 figures. In other words, moving to California is easier for me than for just about anyone you will ever meet.

The odds of me ever moving back to CA are lower than the odds of CA's gun laws being declared unconstitutional and thrown out. Honestly, it would take about 20,000,000 people leaving the big cities AND a whole bunch of laws beyond just the gun stuff being thrown out. I am not joking when I say that the most realistic scenario for me moving back there involves the state being hit by a few dozen nuclear warheads. Maybe a few hundred.

But, to play along...a G36, an LCR, and a NAA .22mag. Cheap and I won't care much when some local police department takes them and starts playing games about not giving them back (which happens there).
