If this is not gun related enough or better suited to another sub forum than by all means mods do what you need to.

We all like to rag on anti 2A states and the most popular sentiment seems to be to tell folks to move.

This is a hypothetical scenario in which whatever gun friendly state you live in or would move to suddenly became anti 2A. Would you move again or stay and fight? By fight mean politically first physical second.

We all think it couldn't happen to us but eventually we WILL run out of places to run.

I'll go first. To outsiders and even some uninformed insiders VA would seem to be a lost cause but there is still hope evidenced by some recent bills that were voted down, and the fact that we have the VCDL which is IMO better than most gun rights organizations except just for VA. Still, I am not in a position to move currently so I would stay and fight for the cause.

Your thoughts......and let's try and keep it civil.

I'd leave if I was in a position to. I have a feeling my wife would try to keep us here though, so I would more than likely fight any changes.

We live in MD. We plan to leave but not SOLELY for the gun laws. It's the overall mosaic of quality of life that makes us hate this state.
MD Pros:
  • Good paying jobs esp. with the state or federal government
  • Good health care
MD Cons:
  • Lousy stupid gun laws.
  • Taxes: high property & income taxes taxes, property closing costs; one of a few states with an inheritance and an estate tax (Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey and Pennsylvania)
  • Heavy traffic
  • Crowded neighborhoods
  • High real-estate prices
  • Weather is terrible: hot & humid in summer and cold in winter but not cold enough to kill the mosquitoes or to enjoy the winter sports
  • Is a sanctuary state
  • Ultra liberal: MD is suing our president in my name; I'm pissed.
  • Crime is getting worse everywhere. We never go to Baltimore.
  • I'm probably forgetting something. :fire:
We're leaving. The question is when.

I left Washington State. I have absolutely no regrets.
It wasn't the ant-gun laws I knew they would pass. It was also the high taxes and living expenses that go with the ant-gun mindset.
I live in a state that respects my rights and where state/county/city employees are very aware that they work for the taxpayer.
The people here are very considerate and I don't have to put up with anyone who wants to take my rights away.

Stay and fight. “Never spend too many nights outside of Texas” is a motto I try to take seriously.

If I move it will be because there is nothing else to be done.

I am in VA. I just finished signing up with VCDL. I have sent more correspondence to our legislators this month than in my entire life prior. I hate the thought of moving, but I hate the thought of losing our freedom more. However, if we leave, who will prevent the spread from following us? I want to fight as long as I am able.

Our entire country is heading downhill. We are now electing representatives to Congress that have less acumen than high school sophomores. We can run; but we can't hide forever. I am near 70. I would like to see gun rights extend to posterity. I fear for the future. Soon, there will be no place for us to enjoy our shooting heritage and right. We must stand at each and every place where we are. Make no mistake, the 2nd Amendment is contingent upon the political will of the majority.

My career can take me to any western state, but I work in a very competitive field with limited opportunities.

So I'd stay and fight so long as my career kept me in place. I'd also hate to leave a few close friends behind. My family doesn't live here though.

So I could go either way. But I won't move to an oppressive state went my current job is lucrative and I live in a very free state.

The problem for me staying in an anti gun state is that the anti gun crowd is typically anti everything else I stand for as well. For all of us who say our lives don't revolve around guns, what about high taxes, high crime, failing education systems, sanctuary status, the list goes on. For some reason all of these things seem to go hand in hand. Sorry but I'm leaving if at all possible. For now I'm in a mostly free State.

So where did you go?

My wife and I are in this spot. We live in Washington, on i-5 smack dab between Portland and Seattle. It is very conservative right here, but 30 miles in any direction is liberal hotbeds. We are moving out asap, but it is probably going to take a while to relocate. It isn't just gun rights, a lot of people around here just take a header into crazyland, like some sort of disease is spreading. So for our kids sake we are trying to move.

I'm living this right now in CO. The newly elected governor is antigun as they get. But I have a family to support and make too much money to leave. I've looked. To move somewhere I like means taking a 30-50% pay cut, sometimes more. So for now I plan to do everything I legally can to fight any new anti gun laws that may come.

If Florida switched I’d move to Texas or Tennessee, my job lets me go anywhere I want.

We talked about it moving when our daughter move out, she is still at mid school. I am about to touch my sixties soon, the choice has to be right till the end.
Florida is still friendly, for how long we don't know.

I never thought Maine would become so liberal. I will open carry around here in the summer time just to let the tourists know we still can legally do it. In the past year I have had more idiots challenge me about my "right" than in the past 60 combined. I fear for the future generations and their ability to think freely or reason.

Oh yea I would stay as long as we had some rights left. Cali type laws and I would probably move if I could find somewhere better as I can find a job about anywhere.

Would I stay and fight for Texas. Well, let's take a look:

My case will be made with six infographics. Just the facts.

The demographics of Texas have changed markedly over the last 30 years and this trend will continue.

The new majority population does not value limited government; nor do they particularly identify as "American first":

A majority don't respect the First Amendment:

... neither the Second:

Seems like fighting for fellow citizens like these is a fool's errand.
And now you know why this invasion - both legal and illegal - is being allowed to happen against the wishes of Americans.

Seems to me that the best way to handle federal intrusion into any state is to do what North Dakota is doing. Please check out the headline "North Dakota Firearms Sanctuary State Bill" under Legal. I sent a copy of this proposal to one of my state senators who I know can get this done in N.C. and I challenge all of my fellow THR's to send a copy to your most vocal pro-gun state senator and ask he or she get this done in your state. This, at least, has given me a glimmer of hope that we may be able to turn the tide of federal intrusion in every state.

I live in Florida currently. Although I really like it here and am not planning on moving away at this time I think the writing is on the wall for places like Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc. Currently I’m just simplifying and streamlining my life by getting rid of excess real estate and other possessions that are difficult to move so I can be more flexible going into the future.

I foresee in another 10 years it will no longer be possible for the republicans to win presidential elections or have control of the congress after losing states like Texas and Florida. At this point I think it would probably be wise for us to group together.

Dan
