Which 3 would you choose?

Don't care about what is CA legal: Glock 30, HK USC, AAC 300 bo SBR, .270 Encore (OK I chose 4)

I live in a CA County (Kern) that is nearly shall-issue. I've had my ccw permit about 15 years and we have always been limited to 3 guns, but at my last renewal, I found that I could have many more than that. Don't know when this changed or whether it is just my county, but this was a pleasant surprise.

My physical permit is the same and there is only room for 3 guns, but additional guns are printed on the back.

This is good to know. Don't live there but it's nice to know things are changing.

I wouldn't move there either. Besides, it's gonna fall into the Pacific anyway.

The "3" on your permit would only apply to what you can carry, not what you can own.

My choices would probably be the following:
S&W 442 (38spl)
Glock 23 (40 S&W)
Ruger LCR (22LR)

I like my Colt Detective Special, but I could live without carrying it. I would just keep it for home and range use along with some Rugers.

Won't step foot in CA let alone live there.

3 guns hypothetically speaking though would be

CZ97
Dan Wesson Pointman 9
Sig 239

OC is still legal there with license right? Printing be damned. No body notices anyway.

I would only move if that job offered 7 figures a year. With that amount of money, it wouldn't matter what I carried or how many permits I had because gun control would only exist for you poor and middle class slobs. You could enjoy your cake. I would be eating prime rib. :fire:

10 rounds doesn't bother me.

Ok, it bothers me as an infringement to no end, but it doesn't affect what I carry.

1. Colt Rail Gun
2. My awesome to me blued Colt Series 70
3. Sig p938

Number 3 was a tough call because the Glock 30s should be in there :(

Random picture inserted below because no thread is complete without pictures :)

I'm thinking something small; something medium for most normal days; and something bigger, for use outdoors or worse areas of town.

five years ago I got my license and started with a medium(BDA) then added a large(4566) finally the small(LCP) which is my EDC and on occasion adding one of the others.

9mm Glock because it can be carried with full capacity magazines, if you understand the law

ForumSurfer, nice rail gun. Love mine but it's the .22LR version.

Well I'd love to have the 22 version because it's really nice, too. I'd love to have that one to go along with it. :D I bought it on a whim while looking for a blued 70 series. Now it's my favorite carry gun despite the chainsaw, I mean rail. Love the lack of a FLGR, thought I'd hate the trigger but the trigger is better than an out of the box current 70 series or the sr1911 I carried before that. So much for the internet and 80 series debate...

Which guns do you choose?

You pick what fits and points to point of aim/impact naturally and you repeat this for small, medium, large.

Don't go for a range of types with different ergos and different manual of arms. If your best gun is a 1911 stick with those sorts. CZ, stick with that sort. Glocks,...

I like this logic.

A SIG P250 so I can change the size/caliber of my IWB gun depending on the day
A pocket 9mm (PF9, P290RS, etc)
An AR pistol (300 BLK) to have as an emergency vehicle option

Not sure I own three guns that I'd be allowed to bring into CA. Hypothetical or not, never gonna happen for me.

My 3 would be:
1.S&W 340PD .357 Mag snubby
2.Glock 36 .45 ACP
3.S&W 686P .357 Mag 2.5" barrel

Lived in the Golden State for several years. Would love to return if conditions improve.

So currently the "may issue" rules stipulate that you can only have 3 guns on your permit that you can carry. You are also limited to 10 rounds, as that law is not changing anytime soon.

Which guns do you choose?

One of each of these sizes would cover all possibilities. There is no point in having a double stack 9mm if you're limited to ten rounds. It is best in that case to go with a gun built around an 8-10 round magazine in 40 S&W, 10mm, or 45 ACP.

1) Pocket size

Semi-Auto: Kahr PM9, Ruger LCP, SIG P938, Colt Mustang XSP, etc.
Revolver: S&W J-Frame, Ruger LCR, etc.

2) Small

Semi-Auto: Either a single stack 9mm such as a Kahr K9, Glock 26, Glock 42 etc.
Revolver: Ruger SP101 (2 1/4" barrel), S&W K-Frame with 3" barrel, S&W Model 640 in 357 Magnum, etc.

3) Mid-size

S&W M&P 45 Compact (Glock 19 sized), Glock 30
Revolver: S&W Model 686, Ruger GP100 with either 3" or 4" barrel, S&W N-Frame with shorter barrel

Alternatively, carry a larger gun and have a pocket gun available. I do prefer to have two of my primary EDC guns in case one has a problem. The small or pocket gun is the backup or the deep carry gun. I would probably go with:

Semi-Auto: 2 S&W M&P 45 Compacts and a Kahr PM9.
Revolver: 2 Ruger GP100s (one with 3" barrel and one with 4" barrel), S&W Model 640 in 357 Magnum.

Same weapons I carry today. HK P30 in 9mm (I'd need new 10-round magazines), Kahr PM9 and a Ruger LCP. The permit seems to be a much higher hurdle still.
