What company do you think makes the best (performance vs. price) guns and why? I’m not trying to start a fight but I was just wondering if I was the only one who favored European guns over U.S. domestic weapons? Mostly because I see no innovation in American guns, just the same old ideas, in the same old uncomfortable rifle grip, long arms. My favorites would be FN, Steyr and Sig, Taurus isn’t bad ether but I don’t know where it’s made. I like a little innovation, and someone who actually cares about comfort. I know there’s a wide array of guns made by different companies but this is just a generalized question. If you like the rifles from one and the pistols from another just say so. I do have a worst gun to suggest, price versus what you get would be some of the Blaser's, $9,000 for a silver plated, engraved single shot breach load. seriously, what real hunter would buy one? I would just get a contender, or a Steyr Scout.

Taurus guns are made in Brazil.

there are so many variables here... specify the type of gun... rifle, polymer, revolver, shotgun.... etc.. each will elicit a different answer.

steyr makes great rifles and I love my M9-A1 -(polymer 9mm), I like taurus guns as well, but I am not going to say their products are the best out there as one can always spend thousands of dollars on a gun that will outshoot and outlast anything else... I look forward to where this thread goes... I expect some feuding....

Russia, Belgium, and the USA, if you go by the proliferation numbers of various firearms made.

but as for individual classes and lines of products and weapons, it is a very tough call.

The best or the best for the price? I think Ruger makes some of the best for the price. However, depending on what you want to spend you can probably get something nicer. I've seen some several thousand dollar guns that are nice but just not practical.

This is my personal opinion, and you have the right to differ. I buy all American made products when possible, and I have a lot of new Ruger Firearms and am pleased with everything I have from them. My personal opinion of myself is, if I don't want to support my Country, and the Companies that manufacture here, then I need to go to the Country that I do support and live.

gun

Well, it say "who do YOU think makes the best guns.
Not what some statistics or some fella four blocks over.
I can only speak for the guns I own and shoot, and of them is almost every make.
I am prone to the USA units, specifically the milsurp units, they just keep on goin, then I'd go with the Huns, and down the list.
I do have several Taurus's and they are dang fine shooters, also just about every other make, model.
My altime fav is the john browing creation the "1911"
with that said, hard to beat American made.
IMO

When you make performance versus price the criterion, you invite questions as to price point. For example, the ten thousand dollar trap gun is useless to the ranch hand unless loaned or given as a gift, whereas the three hundred dollar brush gun is useless to the millionaire who wouldn't be caught dead with the thing at the country club trap range.

That said, I think Beretta makes the best guns today. Period. Colt and Smith used to make some pretty exceptional revolvers, and lots of other American, Swiss, German, Czech and other companies have made great guns at one time or another. I own many. But Beretta is the oldest firearms maker in the world, and the best today. I'm proud to carry one concealed -- I trust my life to it, and I can't say that about many things.

The best or the best for the price? I
i said performance vs. price. You know you guys are killing this, i asked a deliberately vague question to try and get a lot of different opinions and reasons to support your selection (ie. What you hunt) but you guys just keep nit picking so forget it.

Since you are looking for best based on performance vs. price, then best gun would mean best value. Ruger single six convertible has to be near the top for SA revolvers, Taurus for DA revolvers and Marlin for rimfire rifles. I base my rankings on quality, price, and Customer Service from the maker. Ruger's free update program is tops. Taurus has very strong warrantee, and I can't think of any manufacturer anywhere except Marlin where e-mails to the company are always answered personally by the President/Owner. There are some fine shooters coming out of Eastern Europe, but service after the sale is often marginal to non-existent from what I've seen on the forums - even if the importer is U.S. Name Brand. IMHO

I'll be the voice of dissent. The Blaser F3, when stripped of all embellishment, competes directly with the unadorned Beretta Trident DT-10. The Blaser averages 2 large less. It pretty well defines the edge of the point of diminishing returns - you get an awful lot for 5,000.00 that an extra 2,500.00 doesn't get you with its nearest competitor.

The issues are always clouded when you add embellishment.

The R-93 is well under a number of other hunting arms - again, provided you stay clear of the fru-fru.

In handguns, the STI double stacks are the choice of competitors that actually have to pay for their own equipment.

Anybody can come up with Taurus, Baikal and Bersa for "best bang for the buck" - takes a special kind of loon to propose Blaser and STI in their place. But I'm pretty sure I'm on some kind of solid ground and will look forward to reviewing the choices with the OP once he has another thousand or so posts with appropriate amounts of time spent reading and listening. I hope to live long enough to follow through.

Dollar for dollar - pound for pound...

Taurus.

I have owned a bunch - Glock, Ruger, S&W, Marlin, Winchester, Benelli, GSG, Bersa, Sig, Sabre Defence, Doublestar, Stevens, H&K.

I own 4 different Taurus weapons. Still have them all and still shoot them a bunch...

24/7 9mm
PT 1911 SS

Ruger!!! They make them all: RIFLES, SHOTGUNS, PISTOLS, REVOLVERS. You name it Ruger is the best all around gun maker. And, they are right here in the USA.

Even with the Hillaryhole, it's hard to beat a S&W revolver. Dollar for dollar, a Savage bolt rifle is still hard to beat. And a Colt 1911 is...well, it's a Colt 1911, 'nuff said.

I go with Beretta. I've got a dozen of them, all shoot well and never had a problem with any of them. I've got a 92s I've had for over 20 years and many, many rounds through it and haven't replaced a single part.

Best for the price?

Bolt Action - Savage 112 series

Shotgun - Benelli Montefeltro (OK, a little pricey, but I want a recoil operated shotgun I can shoot until it glows)

Service pistol - Springfield XDm .40

Best period?

Blazer / Krieghoff

Parazzi

CZ, hands down. Since they bought Dan Wesson they've got it all.
Customer service is great in my experience, price/value factor is really good.
