Who do you think makes the best guns?

I didn't think customer service or warranties were part of the criterion. Frankly, Beretta owners don't need customer service or warranties because their guns don't break. Maybe that's why their customer service (allegedly?) stinks. I mean, oh, great; you'll fix your POS gun or give me a replacement POS gun -- that's actually a Taurus/Glock selling point?

I'd say there are only three firearms conglomerates on the planet, doing it all, more or less:

Beretta
CZ
Ruger

My vote ultimately goes to Beretta, in part because they do not cave on lawsuits from anti-gunners or play the suck up to anti-gun politicians. Ever. I can only imagine that one doesn't stay in business since the Renaissance by running from one's political enemies.

IMO Ruger makes the most accurate out of the box rifles and Taurus makes some of the most affordable and top quality handguns on the market.

Duke-"Maybe that's why their customer service (allegedly?) stinks. "

I'm specifically referring to the fact that they absolutely refuse to ship a holster for my 90-two into the usa and they are the only ones making one. Also, they don't really have parts listed for it, the schematics don't match the gun and they refuse to admit it. I love my Berettas, but don't like the plastic guide rod in the 90-two. When I ordered a spare, it doesn't fit, and they won't remedy this. I have since commissioned one to a machine shop, paid nearly $100 bucks for it. Guns seems a bit more accurate though....And now I am confident that it won't fail. And for the price, you can't beat my Bennelli Shotgun(Beretta holding).

I guess I am going to go against the flow here,

Hi Point

Made in America, every pawn show has at least one pistol and one rifle, every gun show I go to there are people lined up at the Hi Point dealers table with 80 bucks in hand ready to buy

Sorry I really need to do something about that.

I think it depends on what type of gun you are looking for
some areas I would say Ruger, some areas S&W while Remington has some pretty nice bolt action guns still. The new Taurus guns are pretty nice and they have good prices, the quality has improved drastically over the past 7 or 8 years.

I know my choices didnt cost $3500.00 so they must be crap guns.

CZ #1.
Savage and Ruger are second.

CZ because out of box accuracy and performance greatly exceed what is spent, and they are great looking, hold very well, easy to shoulder and aim. Savage because they are known for accuracy, dependability and toughness. Ruger because they are built full size, beautifully made, and built like a brick out house, if they could hold up in the accuracy department they would be #1.

I prefer European rifles for two reasons, they care more about accuracy and build quality than looks, two, they know how to build stocks that people can easily shoot with. I heard an writer describe the savage classic and it's "traditional" American looking stock, the same basic style almost every other rifle maker in the US uses. So what if it is a traditional American style stock? If it is uncomfortable to shoot, it is no good. I have had a lot of people look at my humpback style CZ and say it's ugly, yes it is, but they shoot it and have a lot easier time with it because i puts their face directly in line with the sights, unlike way to low like the traditional American style.

I gots my druthers...

... and the older I get, the more I like OLDer guns, of various makes and models.

Just because it is new, has a kewl name and been marketed , don't mean it is worth a tinker's damn.

*curmudgeon*

What company do you think makes the best (performance vs. price) guns and why?

The most recent new gun I bought was a CZ 452 American 22lr last year for $339. For that price I get a rifle with real walnut/checkering and a polished blue finish. The level of accuracy compares to rifles costing far more. For the price it was clearly the best choice for me in a sporter 22lr. Even if I had a few hundred extra to spend I still would have bought the same rifle.

I like what Ruger and Springfield make.

Other gun manufs make a better gun here and there, but the full line that these two companies produce are good quality by and large. They don't have an 'economy' line of low-end trash like some other companies do.

Remington trying to sell cheaper versions of a greater rifle is foolish. The same goes for S&W, Savage, Weatherby, etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate these companies, and all of them make certain guns that are at the top of their competition. I just don't care for them when they have a low-end line of guns tailored specifically to be cheap. Make a fine, quality gun and slap a fair price on it. It will sell itself.

"By a simple, complete, and unequivocal ban on large capacity magazines, all the difficulty of defining assault rifles and semi-automatic rifles is eliminated. The large capacity magazine itself, seperate or attached to the firearm, becomes the prohibited item. A single amendment to Federal firearms laws could prohibit their possession or sale and would effectively implement these objectives.

Regulating large capacity magazines seems the best way to respect the rights of everyone, the hunter, target shooter shooter, collector, and the general public." - Bill Ruger himself in a letter sent to the U.S. Senate

Best gun for the price? Not for me. The sacrifice of my rights is too expensive for me to purchase a Ruger.

Taurus? I've got a couple, and although the price was good, I'm not that impressed with the quality.

Browning is a good bet. Solid guns, decent price.

The best for the money?

Springfield Armory, and STI.

I like STI's politics as well. Laws too stringent in California? Stop selling your guns there until they get friendlier laws.

I've never had a problem with a Ruger firearm, and I've owned my share through the years and continue to own a half-dozen or more. They are quality guns, both yesterday's and today's.

I think the best handguns ever produced were made by the Carl Walther firm before Umarex took over corporate ownership. Everything from the early models to the P88 are superb examples of quality design and craftsmanship. The P5 is as good as it gets, even to this day (and the P99 and PPS models remain as solid guns, though not up to P5/P88 standards). The Umarex stamp has been troubling, however.

I like Ruger, Taurus, Remington, Bond Arms makes a nice pistol, North American Arms... It would probibaly be easier to say who makes the crappy ones.. hmmmm....

From my experience with Remington I can't say Remington and quality in the same sentence unless it's saying Remington has a lack of quality. I've not had good luck with their guns or their ammo and I don't like either.

With the caveat that most manufacturers make a few poor or outright embarrassing products or decisions at some point.. ..I say S&W! I was a kid during the Clinton era, I don't hold it against them and they have made many fine products for many generations! Ruger too.. I'm proud to own something from either company.

I'm not against foreign guns, but I do like supporting an American manufacturer with some heritage. Hmmm.. not really sure if I'm 'proud' about Phoenix Arms ect., :neener:

Based on my experience over the years:

Ruger gets the Best BANG for the Buck Award Hands Down!

If your talking about performance and price, or better stated as the best value, my vote goes to Bersa. I have a thunder 380 and it is one awesome shooting gun. Accurate and reliable. I paid $ 280 for it a year ago brand new.

Ruger makes a rugged gun as well that is reliable and accurate.

Chris

I have heard good things about CZ, but I do not yet own one of their products. Thanks Dookie for your post. I will be at the gun store within the month to check them out more closely.

I'm a guy who likes to buy "Born in the USA" when possible. It's S&W for me, that's just me, to each their own. Glock's legendary reliability was tempting when I decided to enter the new world and get a semi auto but I have over 1000 rounds down the pipe on a lowly Sigma 9mm and for me it's the perfect self defense pistol. This should piss some Glock fans off but the Sigma is the American made Glock. I didn't say it, Glock did, in court and the court agreed with them. I'm only kidding y'all. Whatever floats your boat!

I live about 5 minutes from Smith and Wesson, so I might be kind of biased, lol.

I do love Rugers though. Those are the two company's that i have the most experience with. It seems to me that S&W is considered superior in the larger calibers by most people.
