I have two, a 20" Colt Match Target and a frankengun 16" M4gery.
still tryin to figure out why

I have two, a Colt SP1 Sporter and a sort of XM177E2 that I built from an Olympic Arms lower, a Bushmaster upper along with a Colt aluminum collapsible buttstock.

I do have a friend who doesn't have an AR or have any desire to own one. Just doesn't do anything for him. On the other hand he really likes the Romanian AK that I and another friend of his got him for Christmas a number of years ago. I did have to replace the buttstock when I first got it as it had a sizable crack in it but everything else has been running fine with the gun ever since.

It's a relatively light weight, simple, cost effective weapon that has adapted well to advances in technology. Very dependable, "battle-proven" (loathe that term), stops threats very well. Good enough for me. Have yet to find someone to stand in front of my beautiful "pig".

The poll needs another option. I've had ARs in the past but I don't currently have one. But I do have 2 lowers that I'll be assembling sometime in the near future. So while I do technically possess 2 AR "firearms" neither is currently able to be loaded up and fired.

I (grudgingly) voted yes.
I have one, relatively recent addition (prices are too good to pass up, these days).

I spent plenty of time in the Army shooting the design - and plenty of time cleaning them to ridiculous standards.

After I got out, I got an AK, Valmet, H&K, even a Robinson XCR. I always was impressed by how much easier cleaning is (even if it isn't necessary) and how much simpler those designs are (e.g. an AR bolt vs an AK bolt).

Not trying to malign the AR, I simply prefer the AK and its cousins.
That's one of the many great things about this country: we have options to choose from!

What's an AR FANBOY (or FANGIRL)?

I don't consider myself an AR Fanboy because I'm not a fanatic (which is where the term fan came from).

IMHO the line is where one starts putting down alternatives, only seeing ARs as "the best" and not considering any other views.

So while I love ARs, I love building them, I love shooting them and I love looking at them I don't think I've crossed the line.

;-)
I think you hit it spot on. Reminds me of when I was a new driver in the early 70s. According to my friends the small block Chevy was the only engine worth owning. Everything else was junk. When I kicked there butts with my 351 ford the excuses rolled out.

I sold off all mine in the last "banic" and bought Bitcoins. Best investment I never made...LOL

I used to think I wouldn't have an AR-15, just because they weren't the type of rifle normally used for the type of shooting I usually do. But, then I got one, and I enjoyed it. Then I built one, and now I'm kinda hooked on building them, just because that's kind of fun, too.

No longer. Had an M4 (M&P) for less than two years. It never 'grew on me' and extra 'gear' never interested me.

The AK bug had already bitten when the M4 was acquired, wanting to give the M4 a chance. The appeal of the AK's reliability, ruggedness, simplicity, and character are hard to describe.
Just discovered the AMD-65 (tanker/para-) variety which has the high-quality Hungarian barrel and receiver: the TGI import, which is stamped "SA 2000 M" under the receiver.

Traded the M4 recently + cash for the TGI AMD with the cold, hammer-forged barrel. No regrets.
**Prijador **expressed the general perspective quite well.

Also, one doesn't need added gear to hit a clay pigeon on a 50 yard berm, until the vision goes downhill. Fun is the goal.
Quite frankly, we (age 61+) could be diagnosed with Parkinson's disease etc, next week. Would tight target groups then matter, at all? Fun...is the only goal.

OMG!

I am not a AR Fanboy but a AR ENABLER instead!!! :what:

I have three stripped lowers in the safe. I am planning on building one for my two adult children. :D

That leaves me with one stripped lower left over to potentially enable someone else to become a AR owner. :neener:

No interest in a direct-impingement rifle. I prefer short stroke piston-operated.

Regardless of it being legitimate or not, I also don't have as much faith in the 5.56/.223 compared to other intermediate cartridge options like the 7.62x39. So I guess it's not too surprising that I've never owned an AR-15.

Windsor or Cleveland? :D I know little about them, but I remember that one.

I don't have an AR. I have never had an AR. I shot an M16A1 in 1984 and HATED that SPROINNNG!!! in my ear. At today's prices I might be tempted, but I have a 5.56mm rifle already.

The AR platform was something I had always looked at as something for later purchase, I was more into military surplus stuff than modern.
Then the SandyHook School shooting happened. I figured if I was going to get one it should be sooner versus later. Now I see I should have waited.

I have one or two, or maybe more. ;) But I also have other guns.
I gave my Mini 14 to my daughter when she turned 14. It was a fun gun to shoot but that was about it.
I have an AK, it's for sale. My son loved the AK until he found out that his AR was far more accurate.
There are guns I like and those I don't, but I don't put others down for liking guns that I don't. We all have reasons to own guns. I just thank God that we still have that right.

I have a Colt SP-1, Colt A2, Bushmaster xm15, Stag arms ar-15 with Acog and they still do not stir my juices like a open sighted wood, steel, leather M1 Garands, or even a conventional AK47, or a M1 carbine for pete's sake. The magic is not there.

Not me. Is it time for an intervention? Don't tell me, I really don't want to know. In fact, ignore this post.

I have one at the moment. Mixed bag parts gun with a 20" 1:7 Colt barrel, 4x ACOG on top. I've never had any reliability issues with my rifle and I hardly ever clean it. Maybe once or twice a year. Just squirt some oil in her and she keeps on rocking. If I want more rifle I'll grab my FAL.

I have another lower waiting to be built, a 308 AR almost complete and a box full of 80% lowers waiting to be milled.

The beauty of it is one does not have to use something they don't like. I am not a fan of AKs, for a variety of reasons, but I am not locked into only using one rifle. We can pick and choose what we like and what works best for each of us.
