Who has a C&R License? And has BATF ever checked your book?

(raises hand)

Got my 03 FFL a couple years ago, and I've amended it twice (moved both times). Never received so much as a phone call from the ATF. Only annoyance was when they sent me about 6 or 8 packets of the federal laws back in January 06, but I figured that if they're going to waste money sending me stuff I already had (again and again and again), that's less money they'll have to spend harassing people who didn't break any laws.

I've had mine for about a year and a half, never had any contact with the ATF. On other C&R specific boards the vast majority of members have never had any contact either. Depending on your state, some people receive an initial, and generally friendly, visit from the ATF soon after getting their license.

Had mine for over a year, got two pages of entries in my log book, not a peep from BATFE. F-Troop appears to be too busy putting 01 FFL dealers out of business to bother with us - for now.

Almost three years now....nothing.

I have heard some state agancies may visit 03 FFL's initially, but I still have yet to hear of an ATF visit to an 03 FFL from with the past ten years or so.
I vaguely recall reading about one check from the early to mid 90s or maybe even the 80s told over on The Firing Line board, but that is the only instance I ever heard of done by the ATF.

a friend of mine had one. used it to buy > 200 lugers over a fairly long period of time. got inspected once. he said the lady was very nice and refused to touch the firearms she asked to see. said she understaood they were collectables and did not want to get her fingerprints on them. all she did was pick a couple at random from his book and ask to see them to verify he still had them and the serial numbers matched.

Hmm...would it be any harder to get a C&R license in California? I'd imagine they might be a little more anal about it here.

Six years here--never been audited or contacted.

It's a federal license, not state. It is also non-discretionary issue. If you have a clean criminal record you will get one. The only possibility that local gov't could be a problem is that you must submit a copy of your application to the chief law enforcement officer in your jurisdiction for informational purposes only--he/she does not need to approve or disapprove it. That said, I suppose that if your local sheriff had a severe problem with it he could contact the BATFE and petition them not to issue the licencse. However I think he would have to have a good reason to protest the issuance.

Also consider that a C&R doesn't circumvent CA law. Anything you buy will have to be CA compliant. Sometimes things have to be modified to fit CA law. Once modified, these items no are technically no longer C&R eligible since they are no longer in "original military configuration." Other things just aren't CA compliant period.
