Why don't you have your CHL?!

Why no CHL?

I let mine lapse last year, I had to carry a gun at work, didn't feel like carrying one in my free time too. Now I'm unemployed, and I still don't feel the urge. I'm not anti carry, I just don't care to.

20 some odd years ago I had my CT permit whill stationed at Groton. Never felt the need around here but "the times they are a changin'". I completed the state mandated course this past weekend and am now waiting fort he official application packet to arrive int he mail.

I've had neither the time nor the money to get to the CCW class. I'm going to the class in Oct, then moving to VT in January so I won't need a permit.

There, fixed it for you.

In California, CCW is quite obtainable in the majority of the state.

The deal is my husband gets to get his first, and he's having trouble finding the time.

Please re-think that "logic".

If I had been having trouble finding the time to get my CCW so that I could protect myself and my family, I would make damn sure my wife got in and got hers so she could at least protect herself.

As it is, I did get mine earlier this year. My wife hasn't gotten hers yet for a couple of reasons... neither of which is because I had to get mine first. Her main holdup now is that she's waiting for the new Nevada law to kick in. Once that happens, she can qualify with any one of her revolvers and be good for all of them.

Here is some logic for you, My girlfriend has her CT and FL permits, and refuses to carry. She worries about making sure she stays in immediate control of the firearm.

She will shoot with me though, just won't carry.

NO time

I am a 24-7 caregiver for an elderly (98) friend with senile dementia. He is totally dependent on me for everything from feeding him to helping him use the bathroom.

If I hired someone (at $10 an hour) to stay with him while I took the entire day off to take the CHL course, he would be panicked and remain disoriented for days, if not weeks. I'm not willing to do that to him.

I want my CHL, but my word means more to me--and I've committed to stay with Morry till the end. May I not have my CHL for a long, long time.

I picked other because of money, I have a kid on the way and each time I get enough to saved up for classes and the paperwork I realize I could use it to buy ammo and or more guns.....

Its a vicious cycle I tell you.

Plus I'm not sure I like the idea of my finger prints being on record or the idea I need the govts permission in the correct way to defend myself.

Someday I will get around to getting my CHL

Too Big A Hassle

I cringe when people who can, don't get their permit. As a vet, senior citizen and Maryland resident, I'd find the money, time, and whatever else it took IF the option were availble to me.

Maryland has some of the strickest gun control laws in the Nation and the State Constitution has no 2A provision. For years gun owners have trudged to Annapolis fighting for the right of self presevation. For years we've failed to get a proposed CCW bill out of committee.

Ignore what you have at your own peril folks. There's a lot of us who would gladly take what you cavalierly disregard.

That might be true by number of counties, but it's not even close to being true by population count. Something like 65-70% of the population in California lives in counties where a CCW isn't available unless you're rich, politically connected, or famous.

BTW, I live in Santa Clara county, CA which is why I don't have a CCW.

Actually, I take that back because it isn't entirely true.

I don't have a CCW because in order to leave Santa Clara county I'd have to divorce my wife and abandon my children. Seems like a rather steep price to pay in order to secure what's supposed to be a constitutionally-protected right, don't you agree?

I'm not trying to be offensive but thats just silly.

My my fingerprints were taken and placed "on record" (FBI if I remember right)numerous times while I was in the Navy for my security clearance and background investigation. In the ensuing 25+ years not once has it come back to haunt me.

I live in California though in a county where permits are possible. Nevertheless, my current lifestyle doesn’t present a “good cause” for me to be approved.

I selected other.

I have it but do not use it actively. And I am waiting for mail from the TDOS verifying that mine is valid. Hopefully my paperwork is in order.

If Heller is upheld, I believe one of the first lawsuits that should happen in California is one seeking to have any discretionary gun law declared unconstitutional. This includes good cause statements, anything that says a sheriff "may issue the permit" (the offensive word being "may" -- it should be "must"), any law that requires the permit seeker to provide letters of good character, etc. All such laws put the burden of proof on the citizen as to whether they should be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights. But this is a civil liberty we're talking about. If anything, the burden of proof should be on the state to show why someone should be denied their civil liberties.

I voted "Other", because Alaska doesn't require a permit and the only places I normally travel to are CA and HI, where reciprocity isn't an option.

I won't put my name on a list and ask if it is okay to exercise my rights. I follow the open carry laws of my applicable state.

When I read the stories of citizens in this country not being able to carry because they live in a certain state that doesn't permit it, or severely restricts it, I get disgusted... :barf:

See location. I might get up the initiative to give it another shot soon though. Been itching to get a pistol. Stupid need a license ot own a pistol laws :fire: Plus the fact that it'll only be a hunting/traget permit. Very rare to get unrestricted carry here.
