Why don't you have your CHL?!

Why no CHL?

I took the class, did the shooting test, and then found out that because of my criminal history i could not have a CHL for 5 years. I can now, but i've not gotten back around to it. I know - silly me. :( Really need to arrange that soon. Its funny - new co-worker of mine is a ex-PD, and he doesn't have his either... basically said the same thing as me... ya i need to get that....

J/Tharg!

Strangely,if MA didn't require me to have one to own handguns then I probably wouldn't have bothered getting a license to carry.

I chose three. My state does not trust its citizens (Maryland), I haven't gotten around to it [non-resident carry permits] and the "other" choice was because I don't have the money at the moment for the licenses and any training or fingerprinting I need.

I said because I'm not old enough and hit vote. Then I realized I should have hit my state doesn't trust me because I'm in California. So two reasons.

I looked it up one time, Maryland actually has more active permits to carry a handgun issued than the entire state of California.....and it is incredibly hard to get a permit in MD, I can't even begin to fathom what it is like in CA!

MY country doesn't trust its citizens with sharpened sticks and, depressingly, I tend to agree.

How veddy drily droll.

I don't trust the state government and they don't trust me.

Maybe some day they'll get around to loosening up some of the restrictions we have out here in CA.... Or, I'll work up the gumption to go live somewheres else.

My current state doesn't trust it's citizens. We are planning to relocate within the year. However, we do have our Florida CCW and are waiting for our New Hampshire CCW's to come in the mail :D

I didn't vote because I have permits/licenses in two countries:

1) UK. CHL? Handguns? Hehe don't make me laugh, my son.

2) SA. Ja, I got 'em but I'm seldom there and it looks like the easiest thing for me to do now is ditch the guns and the licenses.

I'm not old enough! : (

afraid people are so used to norway being safe they dont realise its only a matter of time....

Odd Job, how are things in SA now? I hear they tightened the belt quite a bit on guns in general. Did you lose CCWs and such?

Joffe, I haven't checked recently but the plans were to make every citizen who already has a firearm license reregister.

Yup, I already had to license each gun, and motivate why I need it, and now they will make me reregister it. Upon reregistration each person will have to prove that they can hit a certain size target at a certain distance, and that they have a safe at home where they store the gun (proof of address and receipt for the safe). In some cases proof of membership of a sporting entity such as a gun club may be needed to keep a certain type of firearm. Multiple firearms of the same type and calibre will not be allowed unless it can be proven that they are for different purposes or if the owner has a collector's license.

So, in a nutshell, you will be able to have:

1) One self-defense handgun
2) One sporting/hunting rifle
3) One shotgun for home defense/hunting

That assumes that you meet all their other criteria first.

Now bear this in mind:

On each firearm license there is a fingerprint, an ID number (your unique identifier in the country) and also the serial number of that individual firearm. Part of the ID number indicates your sex and your racial/ethnic origin. Yep, it does.

Now you don't need a specialised scientific calculator to work out what will happen over time. Without drifting into politics here, I think you can see a Zimbabwe type situation where the main opposition, the white folks have been neatly disarmed because they have been refused reregistration and their guns have been confiscated.

The world should take notice, if they aren't already.

I hadn't gotten around to it because of time constraints, but I will get it done in the next 2 weeks as I now have the time.

BTW, my wife recently expressed interest also, which is a change for her. She's never had a problem with my involvement with firearms, and she has always appreciated that, though me, we had the ability to defend the home; but firearms have never really been her thing, so I was surprised. I have taken her shooting in the past a few times and taught her how to use a couple of my pistols, but she didn't really like it. So after a while, I stopped asking her if she wanted to come along. It was a pleasant surprise when she expressed an interest in having a little airweight revolver or something to pack in her purse.

It's three consecutive nights an hour away at the nearest, then fingerprinting and $100, appointment to see the judge (who always approves them, but still...) then the hassle of buying something, having it CORBIS'ed, paying for it, taking the paperwork to my county clerk, registering it to my permit, and then driving back to one of my preferred gunshops with the clerks reciept in order to collect it. And either of my favored gunshops is an hour from home, and in the opposite direction from the county clerk, who's a good half-hour away from home.

I love that about NY.

Still, this winter's looking pretty bleak and boring, so I'll probably get it done by spring.

Denied by local sheriff because of twenty+ year old psych. diagnosis, made when I was 15.
No symptoms, no meds, no problems for entire adult life.
Still appealing.

I might be getting one soon. I am in the Army so I can't carry anyways but at least I won't have to deal with NCIS.

I voted other.
The newspaper (term used loosely) that covers my county prints name and address of all CWP holders that get a license that month. Since all of the information is public record and attainable by anyone with a freedom of information motion, it isn't illegal. There haven't been any break ins where only guns were taken that could be linked to the list, so there is no motive to get the information redacted (in the editors mind, who is an anti). When I move to a different county, or the Freelance Star quits posting owners info, I will then get my CWP. Also, I work in as a government contractor, so I can't carry at work. VA is an open carry state and I don't carry even then (never had the urge to).
