Ruger P90?

I ask because it turns out that I might not be able to spend the $700-800 on somthing different. There's a good chance I'll have to use that money for other things. Ehhh... these things happen.

So, would You trust Your life to one of these Ruger autos? I've heard and read some pretty good things about them. I understand that they can digest just about any ammo that's out there. Factory, reloads, jacketed, cast, hollow points, ball, etc.
I've also heard that they are one tough pistol. Accurate to boot. People have told Me they are not comfortable, but the ones I held felt fine to Me. Maybe just a little bulky if anything. I don't remember seeing any slide serrations on them. Is there a reason for this, or am I mistaken?
So, is there any reason not to buy one?
Thanks everyone! :D

How much do you actually have to spend?

There are lots of very good pistols to be had for $300 to $400. I'm not trying to talk you out of the Ruger, they have a great reputation, I'm just saying that if your cash is limited to that price range, there no reason to just settle for something, there are many pistols that get rave reviews, and you could be very happy with.

So give us a price range, I'm sure we could point you to the goods.

Probably would - - -

There are several other pistols I'd PREFER, but you've already called the roll of the sterling attributes of pretty much the entire line of Ruger autoloaders: VERY tough, not particularly ammo sensitive, and extremely reliable. Also, they can usually be had for quite reasonable prices, at least on the used market. Yes, they are somewhat large and heavy compared to other brands.

Best of luck,
Johnny

Absolutely. Very solid, dependable firearm.

You could also look at CZs, Makarovs, any number of .357 magnum revolvers that I would also trust my life with.

The Ruger is the Jeep of handguns. Reliable, durable, and as tough and ergonomic as a brick. The things are butt ugly (personal opinion) and feel remarkably like a 2x4 in the hand, but I've never seen one choke. I'd take one in a heartbeat over pretty much any other auto in their price range with the possible exception of some of the CZs (though they seem to be going up around here lately). I money were really tight though I bet I could find a serviceble SW revolver in 357 for even less than the ruger.

Ergonomics and bulk are the only downsides I have seen to the Ruger autoloaders, for the most part they are very reliable and decently accurate.

YES I would trust one after shooting that particular gun some, if it were what I had in my hand I would not feel underequipped.

If you are willing to pack the weight of a Ruger P90 and want that .45 Punch.....try an EAA full size witness .45. You can get it for about the same price more or less, and after that initial 500 round break in period, they are rock solid. Sometimes the ramp needs a polish. They are more accurate than a Ruger as well and hold 10 +1. Tha being said, a P90 is as reliable as one could hope for. Not terribly accurate, but not terribly inaccurate either, and recoil is almost non-existant due to the size and weight.

CZ 75 . Mine is a BD , $339 out the door. If you want to go with ambi . controls go with an 85. Good luck.

I don't like RUGER triggers, but there are a lot worse guns out there.

And darned few guns are more durable or reliable.

Several people responding mentioned Ruger size -- if you check measurements, you'll find that most of the Ruger guns aren't really all that big, but they LOOK BIG. In this case, appearances are deceiving.

Thanks All. :D

I'd like to get a CZ, always wanted one, but I can't find too many around here. There's only one store that carries them and their prices are'nt all that great. For some reason, I can't find 75B's at the gun shows I go to either. Strange.
There's just something I like about that Ruger though. To add, I've had good experiences with My Vaquero and GP-100. BTW, I own a S&W M-39-2 and it's been great, I just feel the need for another semi though.
I'm still open to other semi's in the $400-500 range. Been looking at an XD and a Glock recently. If I can go the $700-800 range, I'll be taking a good, hard look at the SW1911 and Sig line.
Somewhere in the middle of those two figures is the Beretta 92 series. I like them, but have not been able to find out more about the new "plastic" parts.

Ehhh... I have to think on this for a bit.

CZ 75 . Mine is a BD , $339 out the door

$339.00!?!?!?
Oh Man! I wish I could get prices like that! It starts at $420.00 in My neck of the woods for a black polycoat!

I like the P-90 , it just did not fit good in my hand. The CZ prices in your area sound very high. I recently got my 85 combat in two tone for $450 plus tax and is that sweet. Keep hitting the shows. You may get lucky.

Looked at a Witness? CZ is great, Witness good, but if you want the Ruger, don't feel bad - built like tanks. Go for what feels right to you. Don't overlook good used guns. I bought my wifes' Witness 40 compact wonderfinish for $299.99, gently used....

Looked at a Witness?

I've looked for them but can't find any.

I forgot to add that the CZ's I can get here locally have been sitting in the dealer's case for at least a year and have been fondled time and time again not only at the shop, but at numerous gun shows. What kills Me is that they are listed at CZ's website, but will not order any new ones in for Me.
Blah.

I would trust Ruger P90, those are dependable handguns. However, for the money I would get CZ-75B.

Yes.

. I don't remember seeing any slide serrations on them. Is there a reason for this, or am I mistaken?

You're right, no slide serrations. Don't know why.

So, is there any reason not to buy one?

If it's too big for you hands, or you aren't strong enough to cycle it slide.

I trust my life to 2 Rugers now. The p-97 resides in my nightstand and my P-89 resides in my holster. Put a set of Hogue grips on the P-90 and you will have a very comfortable, reliable, and accurate gun and lots of money left over to buy ammo to practice with. I would guess most of the people who claim Rugers are inaccurrate have never actually fired one. Mr. Ayoob for one is a big fan of the P-90.

Trust my life to a Ruger P90?

ABSOLUTELY!

There's nothing wrong with Ruger autos. They're a bit blocky and just a tad heavy, but they will get the job done.

I would and sometimes carry mine for ccw never failed to go bang never choked after break in shoots everything semi wad cutters, ball, hollow points.when i do carry it

I dont give it a second thought of will it work if i need it always has worked with out a hitch.

The CZ-75 is a great option if you can find one. But if you can get a Ruger and it fits your hand then you will never need another gun. Ruger makes very good weapons. They're not Porches, more like a dependable Ford/Dodge/Chevy truck.

I'd take a Ruger P series over many more popular handguns. In fact, I actually like the way they look actually. If I find someone else that does as well...I'll start a club. :)

I'd trust my life to one. I wouldn't BUY one, they are clunky, point badly(in my hands), and the controls don't agree with me. But if you put one in my hand and said "The Zombies/Commies/JBTs/Aliens/Space-Hamster-Dog-Monsters are coming!", I wouldn't feel bad about using it.

Yes.
After running hundreds of rounds through a friends with zero malfs of any kind using WWB I do. Thinking about one for myself.
