You can have only One Rifle, which one do you pick?

A reliable bolt action .22LR, probably CZ, maybe Savage

Polls like this should include something about ammo. Either you don't have any in any scenario, or you have a fixed amount. If you say I'm starting with 10,000 rounds for whatever rifle I pick, then I would consider a centerfire. Also what's the environment? Hard times and you need to hunt for food? Or teotwawki. Big difference.

I'd like a mildly sporterized 1917 please. :)

The new Kel-Tec RFB looks like it might be a decent "one gun" choice, too.

I must have read the question wrong. If you could only have ONE RIFLE, and ONE caliber, what would IT be. Not one lower and 15 uppers!!! The M1A would be a good choice along with the AR15, but the parts give me troubles. It may be different where some of you live, but if my M1A or AR breaks, I can't run down to Walmart and buy replacement parts. That being said, I would have to go with one of my AKs. No parts break and a better caliber then the .223.

Ahhh, ye olde SHTF / Just One combo thread, eh?

Well, [draws a deep breath], meh, it's been done already (couple times).

But seriously, a pretty decent case could be made for my DPMS LR-260L in .260 Rem.

Like the man said, a Kel-Tec RFB wouldn't be a half bad l'il plan either.

Depending up HOW bad things are, a case can also be made for a muzzleloader that can be shot with black propellant powder, black flash powder, and round balls, all made/cast at home.

I agree, one lower & 50 uppers is cheating.

i chose the AR without even considering the multiple-upper plan. in a SHTF scenario, i don't see myself carrying around a bunch of different uppers for my rifle.

i'd still pick the AR, though, again, the traditionalist in me wants to pick a lever action...

i really like my 30-30 contender with 16in barrel... its alot of fun to shoot and ammo is plentiful, but i think if i can only have one im still gona go with my marlin336 30-30 but either way 30-30:neener:

I think I would go for a piston AR in 6.8. Big enough for everything in my neck of the woods and enough ammo to keep whatever is making times "not so good" off my back.

Just because nobody has chosen it, I'll go with my '55 Russian SKS.
For reliability, decent accuracy and power. Oh yes, I've got a few rounds ammo stashed away too.

Simple is better

When there's a time (hopefully not), when there's a shortage of parts, everyone will be wishing thy had a bolt-action rifle, or a good ol' muzzleloader.

Of course a back up bolt wouldn't be too much to put in your pack, or whatever they use in modern muzzleloaders.

Simple is better in my eyes, unless your planning to get into a firefight everday, which in that case I'll go with a gas piston AR in .308, like the ones from POF, but since I don't I'll stay with the simple stuff, because less moving parts=less breakage.

My $.02 :)

Depends upon what part of the country I lived in. Here I would chose a Marlin 39a, 22LR if it were not for wild hogs, so I would choose a handy little 30-30 lever action.

Actually, if I'm gonna head for the hills, dawn the buckskin,
grow my beard out, and change my name to James Capen Adams,
I'd prefer to have the M6 Scout.

Looks like a Jeep, don't it?

Humm, well if money was no issue I'd probably get a Galil in .308
or maybe i'd get a romanina psl 7.62 x 54R makes nice holes too.

If I only could grab one rifle right now and run no doubt it'd be my ak-47, along with my sack of loaded mags and ammo.

Maybe this MK14, it's a few pounds lighter than the Mod 0 and I have plenty of ammo for it.

Opened up a can of worms. Great comments, as to the discussion at work,it has reopened due to some of the posts. Get back to you on the results.
But we did agree on the only rifle part would be ONE rifle in One Caliber. Times not so good - The rifle may be needed for defense and hunting survival, world is turning real ugly, real fast.
You cant ever have enough ammo, but we concluded you have to start with a small amount (100 or less) and need to find ammo to fit.
We also had the same question for a handgun, but the 1911 won out on the first vote.
