Your favorite milsurp rifle to shoot?

Spanish Fr-8

if I could put an optic on it without having to modify it, I would.

I love this thing.
One of these at my local pawn shop, he doesn't know what it is. Has it marked as a 8mm. I've been thinking about seeing if he will trade to my S&W sigma. Never shot one but I keep a ton of .308 around and they look cool.

I've owned about ten mil surps over the years but the only ones I've kept and still shoot are my Yugo M48s.

wku matt:

If it is Not sporterized, in really good shape and lists for much under $400, you might be glad if you buy the FR8.
A field gauge only costas about $20. Send me a pm about conversion from military "cup" to commercial psi if you want.

My favorite milsurps are my Enfield #5 "Jungle Carbines", #4s and Garand.

Then I discovered the FR8 up in a Clarkesville TN gun shop ( very lucky timing).
If I don't find another Second FR8 in the next few weeks in this area, my cash will be spent on a big chunk of surplus (non-corr.) 7.62 ammo.

My M1. I only have one other milsurp though (an M1 carbine), but the M1 is one of my favorite rifles.

I just wish I could shoot it in the prone as well as I want to!

M44 carbine. Sturdy, old, lots of recoil, cheap ammo, and the weight lets you know that you're carrying a REAL rifle. ;)

I recently acquired a K31 and it's becoming a favorite. It's a smooth shooter.

If I had to choose one milsurp that's my favorite - I'd have to say my .30 cal M1917.

With the surge in ammo prices, Mosins are a great buys if you are not finicky with its ugly looks. Ammo is still within reasonable prices although not as cheap as eight years ago.

Big fan of No4 Enfields. Would love to own one chambered in .45-70 someday.

Second to that would be model 39 Finn.

Can't say yet. Almost all mine are in some stage of "recovery" from the previous owner. The M1's are on the way from CMP and the others are in various stages of completion as I look for parts now and then. Should have them all running bu next spring? If so, I'll report back then :)

I actually was going to say carcano m38 is my favorite cant hit much cause of those fixed sights but other than that its smooth, loud, sends flame out and is enjoyable for me
to shoot, but the absoulute best mil-surp to shoot is the one that dosent disenagrate or explode in your face.

Wasnt it a sporterized Carcano the rifle used by Oswaldo, the assassin of JFK? Two headshots in the process?

For accuracy, K31. Plinking, SKS. Overall, Enfield No1mkIII. Of course I have been known to change my mind from time to time, the Garand, M1 carbine, K98, 03a3, Mosins, and the Arisakas get shot some too.

Definitely the M1 Garand.

No wait. The Swedish Mauser. Yeah.

But I do love shooting the SMLEs too. No4 and 5. Both.

My Dads old 1903 MkI. for sure and certain.

I think.

decisions decisions decisions

The Swede. Accurate and soft on the shoulder (relatively speaking).

Got them all, The Lee Enfield is the most fun by far. 10 round as fast as you can work the bolt. Functional, accurate, and historically significant. What's not to like?

My Ross 1910 is also frighteningly accurate, but my vote goes to my Russian Contract Winchester 1895. Second is my Steyr M95 long rifle. Both are lefty friendly, accurate, and handle well.

M-1 Garand, but I have a 1903 A3 that's a close second.

But at least once a year I enjoy shooting at the Mil-Surps.
