I sometimes take a Garand or an '03 to the range, but I always bring my 1918 Remington M1917. Smooth action, heavy, accurate, great sights even without windage adjustment. Just a pleasure to shoot.

i sported out a k31 with a bullpup stock and a scout mount , if you thought they were sharp shooting before try it wit a bushmaster elite at zoomed out to 12X holly crap!!!
i also love my 03A3, it has been touched up some and at 175yrds i can split the seem between two gatorade jubs side by side. nothing makes me more proud then look at all the ar shooting young folk that think more plastic and black paint make a good rifle, then casualy walk down to the fathest marker at the rang set out my orange jugs of gatorade side by side walk back and then one shot them into what looks like and asaination of the coolaid man down range. then with out a word pack up and go. the look on thier faces is priceless. i drive a blacked out yukon with cophase anteneas for my cb (work radio) and often i have to make quick trips for business, ussualy in a suit and tie. it is had to get range time so most times i load a clip and pack a box of shot shells, through my mavric 12gage /W top fold stock and my ak in the rear seats spin gravle up to the range get out real fast reach in the back slam a few shells in the tube and a mag into the ak spray out ammo as fast as i can get back in the yukon and go, all in a suite and tie. Priceless to see the look on peoples face. i am safe about it and wait for all clears and check down range before i let loose but something about blasting soda cans always makes the day better

mausers

All of em; a 1941 German M98k, a Yugo M48A, and a Yugo M24/47 sporter scoped (all 8x57), a Spanish M95 carbine(sporter), and a Spanish M93 long rifle (both 7x57) all are a joy to shoot,
and I handload so no corrosive ammo and I load to original mil spec. All have open sights so 50 to 80 yards before the groups start opening up a bit.

I've shot enfields, springfields and mosins. my first milsurp is a stock enfield no4 mk1 and it is my favorite. my brother loved mine so much he built him a sportered NO4 out of a pile of parts in a friends basement. I just bought a springfield 1903, I have a MN 91/30 on order at my LGS and I am about to try and haggle a bit on a remington 1917 at a local pawn shop.

Favorite MILSURPLUS rifle

I collect these rifles and they are all great for different reasons. I love Mosins of all types because they cost so little. A mosin nagant 91/30 was my first of surplus rifles. My friends wanted to go shoot targets. They had all spent well above 2000 dollars on rifles and scopes. I was a sharpshooter in the military years ago and had my fill of tactical assualt rifles. They're fine for their purpose but you carry one for 4 years and they look more like a wrench then a work of art. So, I went to the local gun shop and asked, "what's the cheapest thing you've got that can beat an AR-15 at 100 yards? He pulled out this beat up 36 Mosin and 100 rounds of ugly ammo for 89.00 . I bought the rifle plus ammo and beat my friends on the range the next day with Iron sights and a rifle I'd never fired... That got me started and today I love them all..I wish I had them all. I want .."one of each" rather than "all of one"....

Most accurate for me are my Remmington 1917 30-06 with hand loads or my K31 or Schmidt Rubin 96/11 with surplus G11. Plus, where I shoot often cause it's the closest, they don't allow 30 cal cause we're so close to residential, but they let me shoot 7.5x55 K31... go figure..

Many of us don't understand the metric system very well. :D

1) 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser 2) Swiss K31 3) Enfield 4) Spanish FR8

Plus all the other Mauser rifles I own, they are all fun.
