Favorite to carry: Smith and Wesson Model 340 PD

Hey pps, I've heard that the 340 PD is pretty tough on the recoil. Yea or Nea? I still want one. I haven't even seen one in person, let alone shot one. I still want one, did I say that?

Model 19...Superb revolver.

Maybe if I had a 27, but I only have a 28, which is nice, but a far cry from the P&R 19.

Since this is clearly a personal peference thing I'll add my favorite. It is my dad's 66. It's in my hands now but I think of him every time I pick it up. What a sweet shooter with fond memories.

The 2 1/2-inch version of the Model 19. Despite the drawback of a shortened ejector rod, it just looks so cool. :D Honorable mentions: Models 66 and 27. I left an original "Registered Magnum" off the list as not being realistically attainable.

3 inch model 66

I have S&W revolvers in all the frame sizes and a variety of barrel lengths. But I think my favorite may be a model 66 with 3 inch barrel. It can do everything well, from carry to range to home defense.

Roy Jinks says the Model 27 might be the most important revolver of the 20th century, and I'm inclined to agree with him.

Favorite shooting .357 would be my Pre Model 28 6" N frame. Smooth & heavy enuf to suck-up the recoil.
Favorite packing .357 would be my Model 19-3 4".

It's not the recoil that gets me, per say. It's the vibration of a full house loading that precludes me from practicing much beyound about 50 shots in a range session.

No kidding here, take an aluminum bat and strike a steel I beam at full swing to simulate the vibration. A grip that covers all the back strap and contacts the hand at full radius will help distribute pressure and make recoil less abusive than with the factory monogrip.

I was in Bud's a few years ago and they had just taken a cherry Model 19 4" in trade. They had $200 in it and I took it home for $225 + tax. It looks brand new and is very tight and locks up like a vault. Also, I have a 686 with a Millet red dot and BSquare mounts that will drive tacks.

I like the model 19 and the 686 both are great weapons. My wife uses a 586 nickel finished we bought her in 1984 used and it has digested over 1000 rounds to date and is still going strong.

Three 357's live at my house. My wife has a 686, Stainless 2.5 inch prelock 7 shot.

My 16 year old daughter has a Smith 19 4 inch blue.

I have a 4 inch Python blue

The wife's is easiest to pack, daughters is great shooting gun...mine is a silken dream.

They are all loved and admired guns but the Python would be the last one sold

4" 65-4 with Hogue grips. First and only. Can't think of why I need to get another.
Sleeps by me on the night stand when I'm home and in my pack under my head when I'm in the tent.

Currently only have one S&W 357--327 NG, but want a Model 27.

My favorite 357 is my 4" Python.

I only have 2 and like both of them. A S&W 686+ 3 incher, and a Monson made Dan Wesson 4 incher.

These are actually my "never sell" guns as they're just so useful for just about any need. I also put away 1000 rounds of ammo for them just for a rainy day...
