First 5 gun purchases, what would I change?

I wouldn't have gotten the Jennings j-22. Icky-icky-bad-icky.

I would have gotten some other .22 rifle than the Charter Arms AR-7. Not quite as dirty-bad as the Jennings, but not reliable.

I might very well have gotten the Ruger stainless Mark II instead of the Taurus Model 66 that I ended up with. It just "felt right".

After that, the order gets a bit muddled in my mind.

not my first 5 but here's 5

oh well, I can't figure this resizing thing out!
last one is my 336cs

order is: mossberg 500 26", Savage 30-06, targetmaster .22, 870 Magnum, 336cs

Lessee...

0. Armalite AR-7 .22 "survival rifle" (permanently loaned from my uncle).

1. H&R .32 S&W revolver (purchased in a school cafeteria).

2. S&W .22 pistol, can't recall model (purchased from friend when I was 20).

3. Ruger P89 stainless (purchased at Wal-Mart, when they still sold handguns).

3.5 A .22 caliber single-shot derringer, no marks, no serial number (found in a gutter in Nashville, TN).

4. Beretta 92FS

5. Para-Ordnance P13.45.

=======

Oh yeah, what would I change?

0. I wouldn't have XXXXXXX (redacted, on advice of legal counsel), necessitating a new trigger assembly. Hell, I was 17, mechanically curious, and stupid.

1. This gun wasn't worth half what I paid for it, but then again, I didn't know anything about them, or what they were worth. I suppose I did get a good bit of fun out of it, when I could convince the cashier at Wal-Mart that yes, I was 21.

2. I should never have sold this one. In fact, I actually can't remember ever selling it. What the hell happened to this gun...?

3. Gave this one to my brother as a Christmas present one year. He left it at his parents-in-laws' house, and didn't retrieve it before he got divorced. In retrospect, I definitely should have kept this one.

3.5 I do wonder if perhaps I should have turned it into the police, as it might have been used in a crime. At any rate, the frame cracked eventually, and I threw it out.

4. Should never have sold it.

5. Should definitely never have sold it.

Overwhelmingly, the most common regret I have about guns I've owned, is that I ever sold them.

The only exception is this one Taurus PT-111, but that's another story for another thread...

1. Ruger 10/22

2. Remington 870 Express 12 gauge

3. Browning A Bolt 7mm WSM

4. Remington Model 58 Sportster 16 gauge (inherited from grandfather, great shooting shotgun)

5. Ruger P 94 40.cal

1. Sig P226 (.40)

2. Sig P220

3. S&W 686 (deal too good to pass up $300)

4. S&W 586

5. Glock 17 (cheap to shoot)

And just for good measure I added a S&W 629 last month. Gun was cheap ($400), and only had 50 Rds through it. Ammo, unfortuantely, remains expensive. Oh well. Still more fun than I am normally allowed to have.

I started buying/trading firearms when I was around 14. (I'm 65 now, so the memory is gone.:D ) The best I can remember are: 45/70 Trapdoor ($35.00),
WW1 98 Mauser ($10.00), Stevens/Springfield M15 .22 single shot, ($??), M1917 Enfield 30/06, sporterized (my first deer rifle) ($50.00), and I honestly can't remember what was next . (They all begin to run together.;) )

Hmmm. Not certain of the exact order, but pretty close:

1. Mossberg 500 12 gauge with vent rib and slug barrels (definitely first, received as gift); still have and hunt with it.
2. Remington 541T .22LR; still have it.
3. Browning Buckmark .22LR; still have it.
4. S&W 4013 .40S&W; still have it.
5. Remington Model Seven .308; still have it.

I'm quite happy with my early selections. They all continue to see use. I've since bought and sold others, though.

1. H&R Topper 16 gauge
2. Winchester 67 .22 lr
3. Mossberg 500 20 gauge
4. Russian SKS
5. RC 98K

I don't think I'd change a thing.

Hmmmm

some of my earliest guns were gifts... so bear with me.

I know I bought a Savage 110B from my brother when he joined the Navy. It came witha 4x Leupold gold ring scope and the grand total was either $100 or $150. I gave the rifle back to him ten-odd years later when he left the service. I kept the scope.

I bought a 1917 Colt New Service Army .45 ACP Revolver I came across in a gun shop shortly after college. I had read about these warhorses in an old Gun Digest and had wanted one for a long time.

Bought an FEG hipower clone on a lark (they were cheap so I ordered one) about the same time I had a custom Colt .45 1991A1 built up on an ODI Viking DA frame. The franken Colt cost 5X as much as the FEG when all was said and done. The franken Colt was a dismal failiure at IDPA, the FEG shined.

Somewhere in there I picked up a .44 mag Vaquero.
