What is fair price for .22LR ammo

I had a couple friends who needed .22 so I gave them the ammo. They are friends after all. For a stranger, I would charge.

Offer your friend the price he paid for the ammo. For a friend, that is fair.

Of I was selling to a real friend I would give it to the free or at pre panic prices depending on quantity.if it’s an acquaintance... hard to say these days. Depends of if your talking bulk stuff or some mini mags.

Around here, when I can find them, I am seeing bulk packed inexpensive 22LR (Remington Golden, Winchester Wildcat, etc) for $25-$30 for just over 500rds.

My friend just recently asked me if I had any 22 ammo or know where he can buy some. He needed it for his grandkids who he bought 2 new 22's rifles for. I gave him 2 boxes of Remington for them. I have plenty and he is a very good friend who will give you the shirt off his back if he had to!

Not a "fair" price but I saw a 500 round box of Thunderbolt for 45$ on a regional sale site...

I gave 2 WallyBoxes to friends. I normally will give to acquaintances with the understanding of replacement after the insanity subsides. This time it's different. There may not be a "new normal" for 4 years, maybe never. Joe

Depends on the ammo.
80 bucks for a bulk brick of Thunderturds is silly (but people are asking that and/or getting it right now), whereas 80 bucks for a brick of midgrade match .22, such as SK, is about average.
Before the drought or shortage or what have you, here in the Midwest good high velocity such as CCI MiniMag was on the shelf at around 7.5 to 8 cents per in 50-count boxes or 100-count sleeves, whereas pretty decent bulk .22 such as Federal AutoMatch or Federal 525 packs/36 grain, was running around 5.5 cents per round.
Right now, "reasonable" asking price is twice that, when it can be found.
The common websites for bulk purchasers such as Target Sports USA or SG Ammo are tapped out of .22LR and have been for some time, and the haunts frequented by match-grade shooters (Good Shooting, Champion's Choice, Killough, etc) are down to just the top of the line Eley, Lapua and RWS.

Looks like you can get all you want of cci mini mags at .20 cpr on gunbroker. Other stuff goes for less

I gave my grandson a box of Federal 22LR in one of their 550 round bulk boxes. Wal-Mart pricetag still affixed read: $7.50

For a friend, I would give a brick free, but if he would prefer paying, then I would sell at my cost.

I just bought Remington bulk .22LR from Academy Sports for $19.95 per a box of 325 rounds. Plus sales tax that is still just a bit over 6¢ per round.

Now, if it's a good friend, they get them for free. But that's just me, and that's just to good friends.

I dont know if I consider "what I paid" fair for a friend or otherwise.

1.) Am I going to have to replace it? If so, then it will be a loss to me.

2.) Is the other guy gonna shoot it or flip it for a quick buck?

I have no idea what the current panic price is.
During the previous panic I found some old WW Wildcat bricks (paid $15 per, sticker still on).
Got $60 a brick for em.

Replaced after panic, w CCI Blazer for at or just under 30 a brick.
Rifles shoot better w the Blazer (hence the dump of Wildcat).

I gave away a few 50 count Super X last panic so coworkers kids had ammo for the Xmas presents.
Don't believe they ever stocked up.
Some folks never learn.

Even more reason to give him the ammo. He sounds like a real friend and you cannot put a price on that. If he absolutely insists on paying, then charge him the price you paid.

I have recently paid $60 for 500 rounds of federal high velocity , and the same price for standard velocity CCI. I know thats high , but I buy it when I see it available if I need it or not.

LGS had a shelf with consignment ammo, no limit. The Remington Golden bullets were listed at $79.95 per box and they sold out in a week or so.

I get aquila 40gr for $17.99 a brick of 500.

Kinda depends on the friend. The buyer is asking for a fair price so he won't feel like he's mooching. This too is what "good" friends do. We all have those "friends" that never seem to buy a round of drinks or show up for a pheasant hunt without enough shells, much less anything to eat or drink for the day. Odds are if you stop somewhere for lunch, even if you're driving and it's your dog and your shells, he won't reach for the tab. Seems the friend in this thread doesn't want to be "that guy". That is a good friend.
