The THR (VIRTUAL) Summer BBQ

Haven’t had some red hot chicharrones in a long time. Guarantee as of 8pm tonight I’ll have a bag and a cold brew on the deck.

Love summertime but because of all the rain here, 20 inches in the last five weeks, I’m getting a lot of unwanted guests.
This was on the front porch the other night.

Have my S&W pre model 10, shown with period correct holster, loaded with CCI rat shot. Very effective at 5 feet. So far I’m six for eight. Five copperheads and one moccasin. Couldn’t get a clear shot at one copperhead and another bolted under the fence and into the creek before I could slap leather.

That’s a pretty one. Looks like it was pretty recent as far as shedding its skin. How did you get it to pose? One thing that always amazes me is how bad the camo pattern is but how well it works. If that works then anything multicolored in natural tones will work.

If were going to bring some long guns to the BBQ then I'm taking my Rossi Model 92 along to go with my Ruger Vaquero; both in .45 Colt. For a suitable companion to my Colt Combat Commander would be my Colt AR15 SP1 Sporter.

And for black powder guns, in deference to our host Armored farmer's keen interest and love of them, my Colt Model 1860 and my home built Traditions Hawken style rifle.

Forgot to add: what's a BBQ without a bit a rifle shooting afterwards? And, since AF has decided to carry his 66, I might as well break mine out too:

And raise you 94

Just got it a week ago.

All right, all right....I'll set up a 100yd target stand so we can shoot rifles too.
Everyone who wants to compete should bring a $25 blanket prize.

sometime, im going to try tossing some steaks directly on the coals. I have heard people say that makes the best steaks.
Has anyone ever tried that?
No, but I have got a cast iron skillet glowing and tossed in a steak. Sear it 30 seconds per side and season it afterwards. Super rare but was decent. Not good enough to do it again.

Mmm. We doing long guns too ? Alrighty... how about a stainless/walnut Mossberg 464 in .30-30 (dont have one.... yet) ?

If it’s a formal event:

If it’s a we’re also gonna do some shooting.

This one in an old IPSC era Milt Sparks rig. Wilson Master Grade 130. About 1988. Not that flashy, unless you know what it is.

I apologize. I left out food. Thick cut Ribeye (The greatest cut of steak ever). Just salt and pepper. Maybe a little fresh ground horseradish on the side.

Sweet Tea. Real Sweet tea. The way old folks made it. Almost syrupy.

And, a nice Bourbon in the eve. Knob Creek. Buffalo Trace. Nothing to extravagant. Just a little ice.

YESSS, EL PASO SADDLERY! love seeing a local business on THR, specially one I live so close to.

Think you're a little off on your weeks count...
Your right I left out the four weeks in May when we had 13 inches. June we had just under four inches so far this month almost five inches in including the 1/2 inch we received last night. For the month of July I've had a pop up heat related shower every day this week and three last week. If you are still living in that county east of me I would be surprised if your didn't exceed what we have had here. You and surrounding counties had some serious rain a few weeks ago. Has that been keeping you from you local outdoor range?

seems like we are at 12+ weeks now..

My roof needed replacing.. Two months and two weeks for my roof to be replaced completely because of rain. (started June 7 and finished yesterday!!) Roofer said he is 30 jobs behind due to weather.. crazy year for sure.

Beats my roofing boss. Can't take any jobs due to lumber prices first, now rain; to the point of driving him to go back on the road as a white hat for his old outfit (welding, fitting, brickwork and refractory). I'm trying to get in as *something* (anything really, long as it pays); but they have a surplus of skilled help looking for work.

Well, if we're gonna tempt Armored Farmer's interests in front stuffers, I'll contribute a little.

Got a couple of knives too. A little awkward for chowin' down though.

Now if'n I'm gonna bring these here guns along, then I'll have to break out my jug of Taos Lighting too.
