Sig Sauer P365 for concealed carry

For the money the Ruger EC9s or LC9s are hard to beat. Just make sure it is the newer LC9s version. They made a LC9 a few years back that had a terrible trigger and replaced it with the LC9s. The EC9s is essentially the same gun with very minor changes to reduce price. I assume you meant that and just left the "s" off.

But if you can afford it, and feel the extra cost is worth it I like the Sig a little better. Although I'd not feel handicapped with the Ruger. You can probably buy both of you a Ruger for less than one Sig. The Ruger is 7+1 capacity, but they do make extended 9 round mags for it. The Sig is actually smaller, and is 10+1 capacity with 12 and 15 round magazines available. Since buying the Sig it has become my preferred IWB carry gun with 10 round magazines. When carried OWB with 12 round magazines I don't feel I give up anything to my Glock 19. I haven't tried the 15 round mags.

The Ruger is only available with a thumb safety. The Sig can be had with or without a safety. I prefer having a safety, but that is a personal choice. Sig gives you the option. Both of those guns have a lighter, shorter trigger pull than most striker fired guns and I feel the safety is an asset on those guns. On a full size Glock carried in a holster, with the longer, heavier trigger pull the lack of a safety doesn't bother me.

After I bought my Sig my wife decided to get serious about carrying and she adopted the Ruger for a while. We both liked it well enough, but decided it would be best if we were both carrying the same gun. I sold the Ruger and bought a 2nd Sig. I shoot a variety of guns and don't have any issues shooting different designs. My wife is not a "gun person" and we felt it best to just learn and stick with one gun for her. With both of us carrying the same gun it simplifies a lot.

I have the 365; sold my Glock and replaced it with the 36y5. My wife tried and liked it so much we bought her one for last Christmas. The 12 round mags just make it fit my hand perfectly. It is the size and thickness of a 6 round Kahr and carries a lot more ammo and also comes with excellent night sights.

No issues with factory ammo, no jams, failures or anything else. One has almost 1,000 rounds of Speer 124 lawman through it.

I would not recommend a striker gun like the P365 for carry. The trigger provides insufficient resistance to unintentional discharge from inadvertent trigger movement, whatever the cause.

For a new shooter, I would recommend a DAO or DA/SA with decocker.

Others will vehemently disagree.

I migrated through revolvers, 1911s, lc9s,
Kahrs, and finally wound up with a Sig P365 with a safety.

I finally found the EDC I have been looking for for over 20 years.

Hogue grip sleeve specifically for the P365 best fit in my hand in 50 years of concealed carry.

Twelve round mags and a OWB holster for every day and the 10 round mag for pocket carry when necessary.

I’m done buying guns. I’ve got the one I need.

1. Absolutely love the gun. Zero issues. Perfect reliability. Accurate. Best ergonomics of any "micro" sized autoloader ever produced. Shoots like a much larger pistol. Terrific sights. Superb trigger.
2. No, it's not a decent concealed carry gun; it's the perfect concealed carry gun.
3. You gotta be kidding. How about "no?"

And I am one of those who completely disagree; especially since I have had mine for over 2 years. The 365 has a great trigger; there is no reason for "inadvertent trigger movement"; either your finger is on the trigger because you are ready to fire or it isn't.

I think the 365 is about as good as it gets for carry.

Like I said, others will disagree.

My mechanical engineering background, active military service, and 30 years of shooting /defensive carry experience is what formed my opinion.

I carry a P365 SAS in an Alabama Holsters Pocket Holster and it prints less than my wallet. Buy the Sig or you will always wonder if you should have gotten one. You won’t find yourself at the range wishing you’d bought the Ruger. Promise.

Or you could save yourself a step and immediately move up to a P320, because that’s going to be your next pistol!

Wow- that's strong. Good for you!

The P365 is a great carry pistol...mine has been my primary for just under two years now...1300+ bobbly free rounds that range from JHP's and FMJ's of nearly every make, to lead alloy SWC handloads. It feeds 'em all and is truly a remarkable gun.

I have size "L" hands and find the grip is about perfect for my trigger reach. For me, it handles and shoots like a compact or duty size pistol and with similar accuracy. The trigger on mine was good right out of the box with an even, non-stacking take-up and a good let off. It's more than long enough to avoid arguments about "inadvertent" manipulation with the holsters I commonly employ. While I find it a bit heavy for pocket carry short of fall/winter outer clothing, it rides high and is easily concealable with my OWB holsters.

Sights are a big green dot on the front and white dots for the rear and both have tritium inserts of the Sig type. I especially find that big green dot a great help in quick, close in defensive use.

Capacity is an important consideration for many of and ...10+1 is enough for me as a civilian in my home and city environment. The 9mm may not be the best of caliber choices for any and all uses, but its light recoil signature does allow for speedy 2nd and 3rd follow up shots, with accuracy.

Another poster here described P365 as the CC weapon he'd been looking for for 20 years...and I'd agree to that opinion for an auto pistol. So to sum it up, it's: Reliability...accuracy...great sights...and an ergonomic grip the are virtually unique in my experience. YMMv but for my hand size and intended carry use, it cannot be matched. Not even Glocks? Not a mechanical engineer, but 25 years active military and 20 years in various law enforcement jobs ... my perspective is, Rule 3 applies. (that, and a reliable, quality holster coupled with regular training)

I'm finding the P-365XL may be the carry pistol I've been seeking for more than forty years ...

I have a P365XL and a P365. I shot the 365 well but just didn't care for the way it fit my hand..even with a Hogue Handall installed. Sold it.. I really like the XL but prefer carrying an HK P30SK v3. The HK just fits in my hand so perfectly.

I looked at several small 9mm for my EDC. After my research I narrowed it down to 2 pistols, the Hellcat and the P365. I like them both, but the Sig felt more solid on the recoil and I shot it better. I chose the P365 with a safety and have fired many reloads and factory ammo without a misfire.

Looking at options for my wife and I for our first handguns. Looking for something we can conceal carry in our pocket once we get our CPL. We took the course, just need to do the rest at the city clerk office now.

I also looked at the Ruger EC9 and LC9. I shot a Glock 17 at the CPL course and liked it, but seems too large to carry in my pocket.

Both of you..Shoot one first. They are a small 9mm and if you shoot them a lot(you AND your wife), you may not like the recoil.

I like the G26..similar size, a little thicker, more pleasant to shoot..G43X also.

Owned a Ruger LC9s..pretty snappy(see small 9mm above)..and a Glock 43..same..shot a 365..samo...

Any issues? Been a little while but do a google search on 365 'issues'...

BUT, my EDC is a Glock 48

I love my p365, IMHO it is the perfect CC gun, none better ...

And if you do get anything with a thumb safety.....practice, practice, practice..so when that gallon of adrenaline is dumped into yer bloodstream you don’t forget to push it.
But...Glock 48 in condition 0 for me with an excellent trigger coverage holster and take holster off/out to reholster. Don’t ‘compete’, no need for a quick reholster.

Your holster and carry mode choices are at least as important as your firearm selection. Recognize that these are all interrelated.

You may be allowing the "carry" priority to dominate at the moment. That's fine...you've got to start somewhere.

Later, though, you may think more about "fighting" with your handguns, leading to more consideration of speed of presentation, consistency of drawstroke, ease of manipulation of controls, etc.

Pocket carry is good for "carry" but less appropriate (note not INappropriate) for "fighting".

A P365 is certainly a fine gun to start with. Just recognize that your choices may change as you get training, practice, read, and experiment.

I dont have a P365 but I believe they are a great gun. Only hesitation is if you are buying a used one, the very early generation had a problem with breaking strikers. Sig will replace it with the current stronger design. If you are buying new it's nothing to worry about.

A friend of mine recently came to a training class I put on with a P365XL which is the same gun, just slightly bigger. If you have large hands this might be a better pick. Try them both.

Good guns for a similar price would be the Glock 26 and the Glock 43x. Both are going to be slightly bigger that the P365 though.

I recently shot a Hellcat that an officer brought into the range to practice prior to qual. It definitely shot well and looked to be a quality gun. However they have not been out long enough for me to recommend. That being said, I haven't heard any complaints about them.

Glad to have you as gun owners, see if there's a local range that has some different handguns to rent and try. $100 in ammo and range fees will go a long way in determining what you gravitate towards and shoot best.

I like the P365 very much and more so with the 12 round magazine.
Issues are, it's hard on extractors, extractor springs and action springs. They are small pistols. These parts don't cost much and are easy to replace. Have two or three of each on hand and you'll be set for awhile

It's more comfortable to carry than a pistol the size of a Glock 19 and has been reliable (until the springs and extractor started wearing out). It's small, but still big enough that I can shoot it comfortably. I have shot it in training sessions, putting 500 rounds through it in a single day.

There are no handguns I like better in this size category, price point not withstanding. It's reliable, easy to shoot for its size, recoil isn't uncomfortable and conceals well.

Try before you buy. My wife has small hands and doesn't like shooting the P365. She much prefers a handgun about the size of a Glock 19. Point is, your wife has to decide for herself which handgun she likes.

I'm not a big fan of pocket carry as the primary way to carry a handgun. For me, it's slow to draw and fire, sometimes the handgun gets tangled up in clothing and I'm always worried about something getting caught in the trigger guard. I prefer carrying my handgun in a holster on a belt.

In my opinion, the P365 a bit too big for pocket carry, especially with the 12 round magazine in place. A proper holster is important to safe handgun carry.

However, there are others who are more comfortable with pocket carry and can give you tips.
