What is fair price for .22LR ammo

I do not know if the “panic” psychology is waning, I was lucky or both. I was in Cabelas yesterday and bought Federal .223 55 grain 20 count ($10.99), S&B 115 9mm 50 count ($13.99) and .22 CCI 100 count ($7.99). I thought the pricing was OK but what was interesting was that there was plenty of it and the ammo aisle was empty of other shoppers BUT, the store was very busy. There was signage limiting “2 boxes per customer per caliber” - my wife and I both took advantage of the limit - hopefully waning, maybe lucky?????

Steve I think you were not lucky, but very lucky. Nothing around this neck of the woods. And should you find any prepare to make a small business loan to buy it.

Within the past month I paid $29.99 for 500 rounds of Aguila 40 gr copper coated .22 long rifle at the local Sportsman’s Warehouse and $7.82 per box of 100, CCI Mini-Mag 40 gr solid. I only bought 2, thought I would leave some for someone else. Current decent prices that you rarely find on a retailer’s shelf these days.

Anyone that lives near a Bass Pro or Cabela's type store is lucky for ammo. I sure do miss the Fort Lauderdale Bass Pro. As to the topic... I just traded 2 bricks for 5 boxes of 9 which I think is more than fair these days. I've seen people asking $100 a brick on Gun Trader.

The last .22 ammo I bought was $10 a brick. Just prior to that I bough 5 bricks at $7.77 ea. on sale. I have a little over 3K rounds of various .22 ammo including a brick of shorts, a few 50 round boxes of longs, and the rest various boxes of .22 LR. Due to health I haven't shot any .22's with the exception of when I last took my CCW renewal. I guess I should have bought the whole pallet when they were at $7.77 a brick. Last month I stopped in at Cabela's and they had 5 - 50 ct. boxes of Browning brand .22LR , and nothing else. They were marked $7.98 a box. Consider this when helping a friend, In a Biden administration you will not only pay todays prices or more, you will likely have to sign for it, and the amount you buy will be limited. What I have will go to a family member.

I think the reason it is back is people have stopped lookling for it as the drought has been going on for so long. That or they have maxed out their credit cards already trying to stay alive. I am sure when it comes back the .22 will be about 10% higher in cost than it was before. That seems to be the way it has happened for the last 4 runs around here. The WIN 555 packs were $24.95 before they sold out at Wally World this time.

Winchester 333 @ $29 a box
At a small shop at the Oregon coast.
Shelf’s are empty anywhere near Portland Oregon

What’s funny is the bulk stuff is turning out to be not all that bad and am happy to find it
Saving the Eley and CCI for a sunny day!

I bought a brick of SK Standard+ tonight for $64 from my LFGS. Should keep me in rimfire for for the next two maybe three NRL22 matches.

Last night, Sportsman's Warehouse in northern Denver Metro had CCI Standard 100 rd trays for $8.99 and 325 rd Fed Auto Match for $24.99. Limit 2 boxes. May have still been on the shelf when they closed for the night.

Just use the "Golden Rule", either of two versions.

On a different but related note, Kamala's latest comments won't help anxious people who Don't understand the limitations of "political capital".

Son went there Sat and Sun...9mm, 38Spec, 223, 22LR....

First, which .22 ammo? a fair price for a box of 50 Tenex might be $20.00 a box, while for 100 CCI might be more like $10 and for Bulk Federal less. I use the price I paid for it as a guide or, trade, which I prefer, based on the prices listed on TargetSportsUSA.

Yes- They say they are getting product, but its self life is normally just a few hours, even with the purchase limit. They must have some pretty iron clad ammo contracts for price and delivery- some $$$ increase for sure, but nothing like the level being seen at other vendors, or the "we have not received ANY ammo since March" refrain.

Got some mini mags this morning , $8 and change per 100rds , they had 3 on the shelf and I bought them.

Dont get too attached to the idea of how much it should cost. It only gets worse as the shortage continues. If you want ammo in any caliber, you had best just pay the piper.

Not a "fair" price but I saw a 500 round box of Thunderbolt for 45$ on a regional sale site...

Dumb luck on my part but I bought 3k of those from Midway when they had them for sale at $15/500 count. Of course that was summer before last when there weren't multiple crisis going on at once.
