I have a nice old Savage 1907 in .32 ACP that is just plain fun to shoot.

I own several guns that don't fall into self defence or hunting gun categories. I just enjoy shooting them.

Dean, Hunter, and others, can we please keep this as a thread about the .32ACP cartridge specifically, and not another "which caliber is best for self-defense" one?

That's what it was opened as. Thanks.
Medwheeler.

Respectfully,

The OP is clearly asking if the caliber is going away, and also.... If you read the OPs initial message he is asking about the 32 vs another caliber..... And...... if this is a cause of it going away............. Its viability as a self defense cartridge...IS a reason for its decline.

Just sayin.............

All this talk about .32 has me remembering that I LIKE shooting my 32s.
Gonna carry the li'l bug more often:cool:

Well, I just realized something. My son's toy pistol shooting these yellow plastic balls has exactly the same dimentions as a S&W Shield, within 1mm in all respects. It is so much smaller than my current carry piece, a Vektor CP1. Which is indeed a compact pistol in it's own right. I believe to carry the Shield will be like a dream. It is not pocket pistol size, but as I can pocket carry my much bigger CP1 in my jeans pockets, the Shield will feel twice as easy to carry. IWB will be much much retter as well, especially while entering your car etc.
Now I don't see the need to go smaller than the Shield anymore. It is really allready small enough. Just something I think I could say to the OP of this thread if it could help in answering some of his questions.. But still, a P32 would make a great back-up gun for it.

As to the 32 ACP. If there was a Kel Tec P32 for sale in my country I would have bought it. I phoned maybe 15 shops but was told I will not get it anywhere. It does have at least twice the power than a .22LR in the same sized pistol. I've heard many times where the .22 has been used very successfully in SD situations. So to say the .32 is worthless is simply not true. It does have it's place. .

The .32acp is a sweet shooting round that has been with us for over a century and has secured its niche in personal self defense arms. It won't go away anytime soon. Clearly popular as you can't find the ammo.

^^ I agree. The fact that it and the mighty .45ACP have both been around pretty much the same lengthy period shows that neither is usurping the other.

32 ACP Walther PPK for me as my EDC. It's loaded with Sellier & Bellot and I feel quite comfortable carrying it. I don't think .32 will ever go away, mainly for the reasons listed by other posters here: increased capacity, less recoil, faster follow-ups, and so on.

I wish Hornady would market a .32 ACP Critical Defense round. I mean they have one for 22 Mag, why not .32?

Most of the time I carry a .357 Mag, but when my demanding social calendar demands a sartorial scheme where a Model 19 ain't possible, I figger a .32 ACP beats the hell out of beggin'.

I just bought a CZ 70 over at Aim Surplus, and am anxious to see how this little PPK copy, will function, even though 32 ACP is anemic, I've been looking at the 75 Grain, hard cast, Buffalo Bore loads, that claim 220+ft.lbs. Such would be serviceable defensive loads. To be honest if I didn't think these particular handguns were a good deal I wouldn't have purchased them, while a feel like the 32 is a minimalist defensive round, I didn't go out of my way really to obtain a 32, a good deal IMHO presented itself, and happened to be a 32.

Heck. The only ammo my local Dick's has had in stock the past two months has been some .380 (which I promptly bought out), some .223, 5.56mm, .40 and .32 ACP. But still no 9mm or .45 ACP.

Just discovered the Masterpiece Arms Protector 380 series. 5+1. 1/3 the price of a Seecamp w/a workforce of prideful individuals. Same dimentions as the SC...I'm in. Would've gotten a .32, but there wasn't one available on their website. So, I'm bumping to the next level cartridge while getting a smaller print. Will get the coated, stainless steel slide, extra mag and I'm good to go. Looking forward to saving up and ordering.

As for the .32ACP going away . . . Pish Posh! Balderdash!

Translated into American English . . . Ain't No Way!

Very colorful, but not realistic. With the popularity of the 380's as the mainstream pocket pistols in the last few years, I am afraid the venerable 32 ACP may be in it's last days of glory except as a collector item. 1933 very popular, 2013 not so popular.

So stock up while you can.

The P-32 is the pistol I carry when I want to be extremely discreet and don't want to "print."

I don't think it's going to disappear from the ammo shelves, though. You can still get .25 ACP, and that hasn't exactly been a hot seller for the last 50 years or so.

My Colt .32 is now 100 years old. The only place it is going is, occasionally, on my ankle, alone, or backup to any one of my other carry guns.
