He was showing some one a few safety tips when he had his ND, the article made a special note that he reloaded his own ammo and owned several guns
what does this have to do with the ND

Nothing, of course. But it does identify hime as an "evil deranged gun nut".
ok i must be reading a different article then you all.
this one says nothing about the 4 rules, reloading, the guy having other guns. Just a lady was accidently shot while giving a lesson.
I think this is a good article. it's tragic that this lady lost her life, but it doesn't demonize guns at all. the son says it was a freak accident and doesn't blame the guy. if it was a freak accident me must not blame the gun either.

Scott Colvin paused at the gate surrounding the Phoenix house where his mother died Wednesday night and bowed his head.
"My mom always told me, 'When it's your time to go, it's your time to go,' " the 35-year-old said quietly.
Alice Colvin, 51, lived at the house, in the 4000 block of West Encanto Boulevard, for about five years with boyfriend and gun enthusiast Jeffrey Gruette. Gruette reloaded ammunition and owned several firearms.
On Wednesday evening, the 48-year-old was apparently giving a safety demonstration to a neighbor when the semi-automatic pistol he was holding discharged.
The bullet tore through his left hand and struck Colvin in the left side of her head as she walked by, Phoenix police Detective Tony Morales said.
Police and paramedics arrived at the house a short time later, and both were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Colvin died.
No charges have been filed in the case, but police are investigating. Scott Colvin says he doesn't blame Gruette for his mother's death.
"It's just a freak accident, just something that happened," he said.
"If I've ever needed anything, he's always been there for me. I don't have anything bad to say about him. He's a good guy."
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday evening at Greer-Wilson Funeral Home, 5921 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix.

We're not blaming the gun, we're blaming the moron. It wasn't a freak accident, an idiot pulled the trigger. The four rules were mentioned by omission because he Failed with Rule #1, All Guns are ALWAYS loaded. He failed with #2 because his finger was on the trigger. He failed #3 by pointing the gun at something he didn't intend to destroy(his hand) and he failed #4 by not knowing what was beyond his targeted hand, namely his girlfriend's head. Yes it is tragic, only in that bullet was not meant for her, it was meant for the moron pulling the trigger so he'd leave the gene pool.
Edit: And yes with that simple line the article does demonize gun owners by planting the seed in the heads of weakminded that this is what happens when you hang with a gun enthusiast. The fact that he reloaded and owned guns is not the least bit germane to the story.
Analagous news tidbit that you will never read: Bob Ordinary, 51, was savagely killed today by two knifemen. The two, I.M. Chronic, 23, and "Bluntdog" Williams, 27, are both black and listen to rap music.
First, you will never hear of knifemen, ballbatmen, or what have you. The media uses "gunman" in many articles to present a bias. Second, the fact that they are Black may be helpful in finding them, but is never reported. The rap music has nothing to do with the crime. Were that news snippet to run somebody would probably burn the newspaper's home office to the ground for attempting to insinuate that all rap music listening blacks were savage killers. Can't say I'd be to horrified to see the place burn either.
Language is everything and I for one am tired of every media outlet slipping these biased little sidebars in on every issue.

Wrong. Someone pulled the trigger.
I learned three rules quite a few years ago:
1. Every gun is always loaded, even if it's a brand new gun and you haven't even taken it out of the box.
2. Every safety mechanism is always broken, even if it's a brand new gun and you haven't even taken it out of the box.
3. Never point a gun at anyone or anything you're not legally and morally entitled to destroy.
There's nothing wrong with the N.R.A. four rules—as long as one follows them.

Yep, it in the way the media reports these things:
Remember that the large majority of the population knows diddly about firearms except what they see on TV or movies (didn't used to be that way, but today its sad but true).
So to most folks "reloaded ammunition" and "several firearms" sounds pretty dangerous, basically placing this guy on the same level as Timothy McVeigh.
Believe me, the media knows what its doing.
Remember that the large majority of the population knows diddly about firearms except what they see on TV or movies (didn't used to be that way, but today its sad but true).
So to most folks "reloaded ammunition" and "several firearms" sounds pretty dangerous, basically placing this guy on the same level as Timothy McVeigh.
Believe me, the media knows what its doing.

At least he understands that he's really just helping fullfill her cosmic destiny and that he's not really at fault. It was her time. Oh well.
