Im going to plug this guys video as it is amazing. If my real life training with him is 1/10 of what I got its worth the money.

Sonny is a amazing instructor and a great guy. He shows spetsnaz training, alot of info about the AK etc. You will not be disapointed, and you may just may see me in it (probably ????ing up).

If memory serves me he will show everything from h2h to how the spetsnaz control/use there weapons.

Much of the info can be transfered over to your M-16 etc. Although honestly the M-16 has to many round edges to do what the AK does.

If you look carefully you will find the trailer for video.

HAHAHA and I kinda dug the muisc. I doubt thats on the video, but could be wrong. This guys a PROFESSIONAL but I think he may have flare for rock. Could be his editor.

I'll agree it had a high "gee whiz" factor. That said I'll pass on the Rambo fantasies.

I saw one of those Spetznatz training videos of a guy doing multiple somersaults and engaging targets with Bizon as he came up each time.

Beleive it or not, that do that stuff.

There is a reason a Russian engineer at Izmash holds up an AK and says "yes but our rifle is also a club."

Hmmm thats odd did you try saveing it to your computer?

I must admit the video looks a little Rambo to many people. I think its due to the major differnece and whoever put the trailer together wanting it to look cool.

Everything I was shown was pretty decent in concept and I have had a few profesionals like it, but tweaked the concepts.

I've not trained with Sonny, but I've heard good things about him. He is based in Sarasota, FL, so hopefully, next time I trek to Florida, I'll get to check him out. He is also an instructor with Ken Good's organization, Strategos, which is the third permutation of his old training group, Combative Concepts [which became the Surefire Institute].

While some of the stuff on the trailor looks goofy, there also appeared to be some nuggets of gold. Did anyone notice how Sonny ran the bolt on his AK? Or did you understand the offhand position on the side of the forearm?

The man definitely has lived with the AK....

And considering it's on $30, I've got mine on order.:D

Thanks Paul you are so much better with words then I am. Hes on the right track some things the Spetsnaz do would make you cringe, like sweeping the barrel over friendlies etc. They lack the... safety mind for the quick reaction. However the other side is they are DAMN good at what they do.

As for the history of the spets that site doesnt cover 1/10 of what they do.

They freeze there beds into blocks of ice and make them sleep on them. They have drills where people come in while they sleep and move ???? and the guy has to wake without looking and say whats moved. Drills in total darkness where they must point out people in the room that are standing perfectly still. Not to mention forceing the troops to jump in black ant piles to get bitten for the stimulation it causes in the muscles.

What I talked about isnt hocus pokus (I thought it was) its about getting your senses so atuned that your subconcious remeber sounds when you sleep, and your hearing and smells tell you where people are with no light.

The spetsnaz (certian units not every unit) are absolutely amazing. One of the instructer explained how to snap someones neck without touching them. He also showed me how you could do it by pushing on the hips. Thats no joke either however you need to be pretty skilled and have the right opertunity to do that. If you need a further explination I will try to provide my crude understanding if you PM me. However I know just enough to get hurt.

I read that more than a few olympic athletes were spestnaz, rowing team comes to mind. It also promoted the international travel that helped with some things.

Cool video! I kinda like the soundtrack :D

Just curious, why the turning around on the knees and the shooting with one hand?

Firing offhand, doesnt make sense to me however the knee thing does. Get on one knee..and try and swing the rifle 90 degrees ...ok try it with a loaded barrel heavy AK. I wanna try the firing offhand bit and see what happens. He has his reasons I imagine..

I love the "Gun fu" with the underfolder..

Thanks for posting the announcement Inferno! I hadn't heard that Sonny's DVD was out. Now to save up the moolah to mail in the money order...

Sonny's a great guy and most definately the real deal.

Sales pitch or not....

I just ordered the DVD.

Plus, I sent an email to the Russian Combat Academy in Sarasota, not much of a drive from sunny Cocoa Beach.

I wonder if my Thunder Ranch and LFI rifle courses will get me in trouble there?

I think it wont be a issue. There will be things that sonny shows you that looks wrong, but really isnt once he explains it. The one handed shooting is to help you when you have to shoot one handed, pulling up on the gun to fire rounds in combat.

The spets seem to take fire, and imeditaly fire in the general direction, while moveing for cover. I can NOT explain this porperly so before you go thats wrong, let the masters tell you. I dont know enough.

I just have the words of several people in the military and prior SF that like his stuff.

I'll assume, before they respond, that one provides their own AK, right?

If so, would a sidefolder SAR-1 or a fixed-stock SLR-95 be the best one to take?

Just curious, why the turning around on the knees and the shooting with one hand?

Pivoting on the knees is to keep your head lower so you have less of a chance of being shot. Shooting from the kneeling position is also more generally accurate than the standing.

Shooting with one hand? Sometimes you have to use the other hand to do other things. Getting magazines, keeping balance, getting out a grenade, etc. It is generally a good idea to keep a plenty of lead going towards the bad guys.

There is one technique I used to practice with the AR, where one is providing constant fire using one hand and the sling. Basically, just covering fire. Constantly changing out mags. Your reload hand always has a magazine in it. Works better if you put weights on the bottem of your mags.

The promo is definitely bringing back fond memories. I never really trained with the Spez guys, but we got drunk together and swapped stories. Ever recreate clearing a room with vodka bottles instead of rifles? It's rather fun, especially when people miss the doorways.

The "gun fu" is rather similiar to US Army riot training. The point isn't to do such things in combat, but rather beating the heck out of a person instead of killing them. And the rifle grab is a last resort type thing. Basically, if you are in a Nick Berg situation, and you will probably die either way. If possible, find another solution, as grabbing someone's rifle will usually make them start pulling the trigger.

One last thing, if possible, don't do the gun fu stuff with an AR15. You'll likely snap off a stock or break something important. Every time we do those drills, we use plastic rifles (rubber duckies) to simulate because we messed up plenty of real weapons during practice.

Looks rather nifty, if I ever have the chance, I'll go to polish up my AK skills. Most of the stuff isn't very useful to civvies from a tactics/strategy standpoint. Fun and interesting, but not very practical.

Yes, and I remember how well they did in Afghanistan.... :neener:

Oh my gosh. You guys will believe anything. Snap someones neck without touching them? Geesh.

Sucker born every minute...

Dave, you're a cynical unbeliever! :fire:

(Me, too... :D )

Of course, there's always the Evil Eye when the brown end product of the alimentary process hits the rotating air impeller...

:neener:

I knew that was going to come up. Its not that hard to understand. Basicly if I swing a baseball bat at your head your gonna duck. The technique is basicly to get the head going one way and the body/toros going the other. I have seen some very basic work with this, and have experinced it.

I was as skeptical if not more so as I heard it as "psychic energy" well its not psychic its psychological use of another persons body movement.

Understand? or should I have one of your buddies randomly try to smack your balls and see if you move without being touched?
