I'm guessing The Discovery Channel has a Facebook and other social media accounts. If people posting to this thread do, then try posting this thread so they can see our opinion and reaction to this show.

Not that they care but tell them (Discovery Channel) what rich said and show them. I am sure DC does not want bad publicity.

Actually I had copied it down in Microsoft office but I wasn't sure if anyone here cared. Here was the conversation:

My initial post:

Here are some thoughts on your show from a lot of people that actually know about guns:
(Link to this thread)

His response:

Hey jack***, this isn't a trolling page, and I know how the H*** to run a business. I pay people fairly for their guns and only charge what I need to make a little profit on the guns I make.

My response:

Oh yea I know how hard running the lowest rated gun store in Colorado can be, how you treat your gunsmiths like crap, and charge thousands for guns that I could get for 1/3 of what you charge. Ever hear the phrase "A fool and his money are soon parted?" C'mon dude. The shooting community isn't completely made up of idiots. You just managed to find the ones that are idiots.

His response:

F*** off.

About 10 minutes later the post wasn't there so it's safe to assume that he deleted it. The funny part though is about 15 minutes after I made my initial post, another dope posted: "Oh Rich, isn't it amazing how people question your great knowledge? As if you haven't been around the block a few times..." Yes, I guess people really are that stupid...

Lol, just as I suspected Rich is a total ******bag!

Ok, maybe someone else has already asked about this, but what's up with his deadlines? Why do these customers expect orneed to have these guns done in a matter of a few days? Any custom work I have ever looked into had conditions like; "Send me your gun with a $1000 deposit, and we will call you when it's done, probably in about six months." What I take from this is that serious smiths tell YOU when they will get it done, you don't tell THEM. But he treats every job like the success or failure of the company hangs on it, and they never had the idea of telling a customer that they want to make sure they do it right, so they will take their time and let them know when it's done. Is he artificially making these deadlines just to make the show more interesting? I know it would totally burst my bubble to find out that reality TV is in fact....staged.

RE reality tv being staged: A few years back, I had to fly into LAX. I happened to get there as they were filming some reality "star" arriving. I had a layover, so I was there long enough to see them film this "scene" no less than 6 times (along with overhearing all the attendant "cut" and "can we touch up her makeup before the next take" stuff one would expect to hear during the filming of a tv show). As a result, I have since presumed that all reality shows are staged unless proven otherwise (this one included).

ETA: That being said, I don't have a problem with these type shows being staged or scripted. I just wish that they'd make that clear (or at least clearer).

well, now that the show has been around a while, i for one enjoy watching it. i think the boss is one i can relate to. expect miracles from his employees, and then rewards them with a 10 cent an hour raise every two years or so. IF he HAS to. meanwhile he flies around in a helicopter throwing tens of thousands of dollars around like it was last weeks poker winnings. i think i had his twin brother from another mother for a boss back 15 years or so. i do not see anything wrong with the show however.

The show is fine (check your brain at the door). I went into the shop a few years ago while in gunsmihting school. It is a nice place but I got the impression that he didn't think very highly of the school or anyone attending so I never went back. I heard from a friend that tried to apprentice at his shop that he wanted to charge for the apprenticeship. :what:

Of course, it's staged. It's OBVIOUSLY staged. More fake than wrestling with none of the athletic talent...

I thought contempt was a misdemeanor.

It depends; there is such a thing as criminal contempt, but it doesn't sound as though he was jailed for that. He was jailed for defying the court's order in a civil matter, and held until he complied; as they say in the business, he "held the keys to his own cell". This is indicates it was civil, not criminal contempt.

OK so the guy is a ****** bag cause he doesn't take kindly to someone harassing him on his face book page? There is a lot of personal hate going on here over a reality TV show that we all know is scripted.

No he is a ******r because of the way he acts in normal life. Look up gunsmoke in colorado on a consumer complaints site and or read the article about his divorce and see if you do not come to the conclusion he is a ****** to.

Actions speak louder than words and thus far his actions and his words leave me to believe he is not only a ****** but a horrible person and very unethical. At least that is my opinion on the matter.

American Guns

Someone had to do something for this kind of tv show to end up on network television. It is a BATFE bust if it where not for Eric Holder. If it was a republican president, there would be flocking to jail real quick. Maybe we should check out Omama. Do it now and there goes his thought of 2 term pres.

If I am deciphering his post correctly (made my damn brain hurt) he is insinuating that there are some illegalities going on on the show. While yes to US it seems he is ripping folks off, in the eyes of the law, overcharging a customer is legal. If the customer is retarded enough to pay his outlandish prices on substandard products then there is nothing illegal being done.

There's another Discovery show about firearms? And people on HERE actually watch it?

I got pretty disgusted with everything Discovery. They used to have good stuff. That original documentary on Jesse James (the bike guy) was REALLY good, then they got into the "reality" trash.

I've said this before and I'll say it again for those that don't know yet. If you want to watch firearms shows that are more "our calibre" then look at The Outdoor Channel on Wednesday. What time Wednesday? Basically all day. A couple are NRA shows. All of them are really good (you may not agree with everything, but you gotta admit it is better than anything else by far).

My favorite is Impossible Shots. Awesome show. The one I like the least is the SHTF show (I can't recall what it is called). They have some good stuff on there, but the guy that does the "tactical" stuff is kind of living in a dream world if he thinks gunfights go down like he trains.

Oh yeah, they are all reality shows. As in "real reality". A refreshing change.

BTW, almost all the commercials that day are firearms commercials, and the ones that aren't are hunting commercials.

Strykervet, those shows are 90% advertisements for the companies willing to shell out the most money. Basically for the latest, greatest, routin, tootin shootin, range toy. Just like all the hunting shows are nothing more than advertisements for whatever scent, scentlock suit, hunting lease land, or food plot system. They are about as close to reality as Ghost Hunters.

Just out of curiosity, but does anyone remember when the Discovery channel had educational shows about nature and science? At this point, all they have is 15 different shows where they just send a camera crew to follow some people who have a odd/interesting profession and film them arguing. Ice road truckers, lumberjacks, fishermen, antique store owners, gun shop owners, motorcycle builders, etc. I'm thinking a name change for the channel might be in order.
