Anyone else buy the ammo before the gun?

Purchased dies and 2000 rounds of 7.62x39 brass for resizing and fireforming to 6.5 Grendel, almost 6 months before the new upper arrived. All of that along with some factory brass and bullets, so when the upper got here I was ready to go.

hmm, well it's like ya know

Over the past month cleaning out two garages I have located about 500 rds of ammo for a gun I haven't had in two years.

grrr.

I would get ready to head to the range, couldn't locate my ammo and would buy more.

SO was putting left over ammo in a closed cabinet. Several different closed cabinets.

I was sooo wondering if I was loosing my marbles.

case solved.:scrutiny:

I've done it before. I started stocking up on .380 before I even intended to own one, since I have a couple friends that had .380 pistols. Having a couple hundred rounds stashed was one of the deciding factors in buying my Bersa off one of them.
I also bought a $130 1080 round can of 5.45x39 with no intentions of getting an AK-74 in the foreseeable future. About 3 weeks later, someone made me an offer on my AMD-65 that I just couldn't turn down(I turned a $200 profit), and I went out and bought a
Tantal, which I absolutely love. I've put almost 3000 rounds of 53 grain surplus, and 70 grain Wolf through it since I got it in January without a single keyhole, malfunction, stovepipe, or any other issue other than the occasional light primer strike when attempting to bump fire.

My big "motivator" for going through with getting a gun is layaway. Aside from my mosins, every gun I've ever bought from a dealer was bought on layaway. I've never had a gun on layaway for over a week, even when I didn't intend to pick it up for a month or more. I figured out that once I put the money down and put a gun on layaway, it drives me nuts until I get it. It almost instantly goes from a passing idea, to the very top of the priorities list, second only to the absolute necessities.

Yup! Got the ammo, don't have the gun yet! I decided on the .300 WM for a larger hunting rifle. The local store had the ammo on a great sale, so I picked up all they had. (only 3 boxes) I even got the dies too.

I'm getting really close to ordering the rifle here soon, so..... :D

Only Once....

I decided on a Remington 700 CDL in 300 Win Mag. Saved up for it, saw a hell of a deal on a 686, which I also had on "the list". So I got it.

Started saving up again, stumbled across another rare find for myself, so I grabbed it. In between those two guns I did buy 2 boxes of 300 win mag ammo.

I have since ordered the sling, some snap caps, I bought a nice leupold scope from Bass Pro when they had a really good sale on it. (25% off).

I have the rings and scope base in mind, just need to pull the trigger on those.

Oh yeah. And the rifle.....

Soon. Very soon.

I will say, I never want to go through this again. I'll have nearly $250 bucks invested towards a gun I don't own yet.

120 rds of smokless and 100 rds of blackpowder for a 45 Colt single action that I have yet to purchase! Wife thinks I'm even crazier now than before!

yep just did today. bought rounds i found real cheap for a gun i havent gotten yet. 30-06 in enblocks. only needed the ammo for a rifle im picking up soon dont need the metal clips..... yet

I had 3000 rounds of .22LR before I got my MkIII out of layaway, lol. Every time I went to walmart, I picked up a box of 550 Federal. :0)

I had 500 rounds of 9mm before I brought home my SR9.

I did this yesterday actually. We'll be getting the wife a S&W next month, but when I was in the sporting goods store last night I saw some .38 Special on the shelf and picked up some.

I bought a bunch of .380 when I found it and I knew I was going to buy a LCP. I had heard how hard it was to find that when I walked into Gander Mountain and they had a mountain of .380 I had to buy it.
