What are your thoughts on Remingtons' AR 30? Looks like a hopped up 7.62x39. Could be a nice niche filled between the AK round and a 308. Anyone jumped on this one yet? If so, how does it perform?

If it really will do that with a reasonably long barrel. the 6.5 Creedmore ballistics are all based on a VERY long barrel. Always the super small print in the ad.

I just don't know why they feel like they have to fill up every little tiny cartridge gap. Looking at this new round I keep thinking we already have the 223/5.56, 6.5, 6.8 and the 7.62x39 AR-15s. And if you want more firepower just get a 308/7.62x51 AR-10. I mean don't get me wrong, it has nice specs but it's really a waste of time and money. That said, when can I buy one?

The RAR 30 ballistics exceed light 308 loads so I definetly think it is superior to the 7.62x39. The fact is with these new calibers only the designer will produce the ammo for a few years making it harder to come by. Just look at the 50 beowulf, 6.5 grendel and 6.8 spc if you don't believe me. So the caliber's designers really hose themselves by not letting the ammo be manufactured by other companies thus not letting the new caliber catch on. I am really interested in the 30 RAR but ammo is my concern even if you reload you are gonna need brass.

I find 308 performance from switching uppers on my AR 15 without purchasing an AR 10 to be a good idea.

Here are the ballistics from Wikipedia (sorry that is all I could find)

30 RAR 125 grain 2800 fps and 2176 ft lb

308 Win 150 grain 2820 fps and 2648 ft lb

7.62x39 123 grain 2300 fps and 1480 ft lb

Read an article on 300 whisper in Rifleman last year. How is availability of factory ammo/brass?

Spoken like a true gun nut.

Why make a cartridge that uses the same dime-like sectional density bullets of the 7.62x39 when something like the 6.8 SPC and 6.5 grendel are already up and running, with better shaped bullets going the same speed at the same weight (approx)?

Those numbers are completely incorrect. They're actually the energy figures but since Remington hires only the most incompetent IT people those figures have remained uncorrected for several months now.

Boring and why???

My AR 25wssm with a 24" barrel will go 2995fps "ish" with a 120 pill. Please compare the sec. den and ball coe to the new remy 125 bullet.

As hunting rounds the 25wssm spanks the new remy.

And yet stubbornly remains non 30 caliber the whole time.

For me being a 30 cal is a must before I buy another upper

No - just trying to get the max deer rifle out of a AR15.

I just wish "they" would put more work into new powder. Case capacity is over lapping...

There is little room for "NEW"

For the ar platform there is, you have a huge blank between the wssm and 450 bushmaster that needs filling. I would like to see a 7mm, 30cal and a 338 or 35 caliber rounds for the ar using the new large diameter bolt and cases.
