Bear gun picture thread!

The bear thread is very fun to read.. let me see your bear gun! If you were in the woods and ANY bear might be encountered what are you taking? I don’t have a big bore so I would take my 3 inch KC with 180gr underwoods or such? I dunno here’s my “ bear” gun lol

Almost any rifle is a bear gun so I'll just show my bear handgun. The bears around here in Illinois don't get very big, typically zero pounds and invisible so this should do it.

Also happens to be my favorite handgun. 5" super redhawk in 454 casull.

Siamese mauser 45/70 from trapdoor to class 4 loads. But other then a big brown bear hunt, a 243 would be plenty. My friends son shot a huge black bear a few years ago, died quick with his 308.

Well the bears don't get real big in my parts ( midwest Illinois) but if they were in these parts I'd go with my Marlin 1895, and carry my Ruger Alaskan in 44 mag for backup. Might be able to get some chest shots off with the 44, while it's eating my arm or leg off lol.

Flap holsters are nice, but I prefer a cross draw with a simple strap. Quicker than a flap holster and out of the way if you are sometimes carrying a rifle.

Probably would take my Beretta Stampede .45 Colt or my Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt, loaded of course for (wait for it)...Bear! I would also tote along my Rossi M92 in .45 Colt for good measure!



Might also bring along my Colt Officers Model ACP just so I have a back-up plan!

Well, the only bears I've ever seen were up along the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. I'm pretty sure you could have stopped them with a Hardee's ham biscuit. And I've only seen a couple of them.



BUT. Just in case, I suppose my Ruger Security 9 would have to do, because it's what I'd have with me. The other stuff would be in the safe at home.



But this is supposed to be revolvers isn't it. So, maybe I'd have this one. Not an ideal "bear gun" I suppose, but for the bears I've seen, it would probably do.

I understand that was intended as humor, but on a serious note doing that is exactly what causes problems. Left alone bear will rarely, if ever cause a problem. Virtually all problems come from bears that have gotten food from humans either by carelessness or deliberate acts. People will literally throw food at them to get them to stop and pose for a better photo. Those are the ones who become aggressive and see humans as an easy source of food in the future. The problem is that the people who feed them aren't around when the problems come up. It is the guy who comes along the next day or week that has to deal with a hungry bear wanting food from them.

I know this is a revolver sub forum, but when I sleep at night in bear country this G29 loaded with 15 rounds of 200 gr hardcast bullets at 1300 fps is nearby. I sleep as well with it as I would any other firearm. And while a rifle or shotgun might be nice, they don't work so well inside a sleeping bag and backpacking tent.

This is my gun for blasting (gummy) bears at close range. May be over kill but they can do a lot of damage (tooth decay, belly ache , diabetic complications).

Loaded with Oregon Trail True Shot 355gr.WNFP GC bullets over 23gr H110 , 22gr. LIL GUN & 24gr IMR4227 gives me around 1300 fps. I think it will stop about any animal as long as I do my part. Recoil is stout.
