Bond Arms--Do they need more calibers?

I almost bought a .327 barrel to shoot .32 ACP and .32 Long, but then began seeing mixed views online about whether it's a good idea.

i bought my 327 barrel specifically to shoot 32long ammo. i don’t have any 327mag or 32mag ammo, nor do i plan to get any. i don’t shoot 357mag of that barrel too, just 38sp.

I really wish they made more regular .32 revolvers, which used to be widespread. I just want a basic .32 revolver, not in .327 mag per se. There is the Charter Arms Undercoverette in H&R Mag, and that takes the long rounds but also is mild I think. H&R Mag is like a fake magnum, lol. Not very powerful.

Or, in the case of BA, regular .32 barrels including .32 ACP. .32 ACP and .32 revolvers used to be really popular, in part due to manageable recoil while also still being viable for SD. I wonder if that can make a come back. Both are better than .22 or .25.

With the BA, I suspect the normal barrels are strong enough to handle .357 mag, .45, etc, that it isn't saving money to do less than. 327 mag. Might as well have that option. The barrel will handle it.

But Lucky Gunner gives a thorough review of .32 ACP in a revolver and gives the worst case theoretical scenario regarding the thinner rim starting at 3:10. Presumably the Bond Derringer would have the same potential issue.

The 32 ACP is a rimmed cartridge like all the others. It's not going to be subject to anything that any other 32 caliber cartridge would see the exact same way.
Clearly you've never had a cylinder lock up on you from shooting .32 ACP in a .32 revolver.

i have a 327mag barrel and happily shoot 32long and 32short. in reply to my specific email query bond arms replied to definitely not shoot 32acp through it, no further explanation offered or sought.

Yes, right. 32 S&W, 32 S&WL, 32 H&R Mag, and 32 Fed mag all have basically the same case dimensions towards the head of the case. So, these cases can be fired safely in a chamber for the longer cartridge.

32 ACP is a bit of a different animal. The base dimensions of the cartridge are not the same as S&W rimmed 32 cartridge variation. So, while 32 ACP may fit in a 32 S&WL type cylinder, it may cause issues down the road.

I wish they made a 4-barrel gun, like COP and others.

As for the caliber, .380 would be interesting.

The 30SC only lets them make the gun 10% thinner than the .38 caliber cartridges. Not worth the trouble, I'm afraid.

COP is pretty nice and I like the way the barrel hinges from the front for easier reload, like a top-break revolver.

There was a 4 barrel derringer at SHOT years ago that I thought had promise, but it just never ended up happening. The reality is that a gun like the COP has potential if it has a better trigger than what the COP had, but I guess that's just the nature of those guns.

The .30 SC being 10% thinner means you could have a pistol the size of the LC9, but with the width of the LCP. People went nuts over the P365 because it held more rounds than a single stack, yet was .1" thinner than doublestacks.

I don't know why you'd shoot 32 acp out of a 32 H&R mag when there's 32 SW long available.

It would be neat to have a short, small revolver in something like 32 ACP, just some of the small revolvers made for 32 SW. Thinking of like an H&R Young American.

No one wants one in 7.62x39 or 5.56?:evil:

That's where the extra weight of a Bond starts to feel worthwhile!

Maybe if someone has a lot of .32 ACP to burn up.

I like it, a dedicated .32 ACP revolver with a shorter cylinder! Nice!

Well I guess I need to get back to the range with the Bond Derringer. I never did give the new .38/.357 barrel a decent try. Will do that with .38 Specials then some .357s then switch to the .45 colt barrel and run my 180 grain cowboy loads followed by 250 grain. I hope I can remember the feel of those .357s so I can tell how they compare to the .45 Colts. There is where two separate guns would be a bonus. Well, I think I can get back to the range in a couple weeks. Will report back.

Disclaimer: If I buy another gun before I get to the range, then the new gun will take precedence at the range. :)

More people have .32 acp guns and ammo these days I’d wager. Like me. So compatibility.
