Hi Everybody, I'm new here but I've been reading the threads for awhile..
Now I need some advice on buying another barrel for my Bond derringer. I already have the 45/410 barrel in the 3 inch. I was told not to get an auto caliber for a single shot..... But my thinking is that there would be more rifling with a barrel made for a shorter cartridge......I know that you really can't get very accurate with a derringer, but that's kind of my aim and still stay with a bigger caliber. Which would be better 357 mag/ .38 spl or .45 acp/ 450 Bond ? Thanks in advance for any help that you could offer! blue99.

I started with the 45LC/410 barrel, and have added a barrel in 45acp. It works just fine, and is pretty accurate if you remember which barrel shoots high and which one shoots low. When I do carry it (rarely) I have it set to fire the lower barrel first, so I know how to aim.

I believe they make a barrel for just the .45 colt (w/out the .410 capability). If you like the .45 colt round, you may want to check on this.
I had one of the "Texas Defender" models for a number of years, and loved shooting cowboy loads through it. However, I found I did NOT like the cor-bon/buffalo bore heavy loads, or the .410 000 buckshot. :what: I think I still have residual nerve damage from that range session!
The .38/.357 variation would be much more fun (and cheaper) to shoot with light target loads.

Last night on one of the gun auctions I won a Bond Arms .40 S&W barrel....... My thinking on this choice other than the fact that there aren't any other barrels for auction. I think that a shorter cartridge in a 3 inch barrel leaves more for the rifling and that a caliber made for a short barrel would burn more powder in the barrel instead of blowing it out of the end of the barrel. Any thoughts on this as I'd like to know what others have to say. Thanks again for your information. blue99.

I looked long and hard at the Bond Derringer. It's "niche" is as a "snake gun" with 410 bore shotgun ammo. As such it gets past the Fed. rules on a "sawed off shotgun" because it's a "pistol" using a pistol caliber and having a rifled barrel.

Any other caliber, and the gun is a two shot pistol that's as large and heavy as a 9mm semi auto or any compact revolver. If you're going to carry that large a gun, I'd go for 44 magnum. If you can't hold on to it, you have the option of 44 Spl.

Taurus makes a 45 Colt / 410 bore revolver, 5 shot, 3" bbl. The big feature of the Taurus is that it's 5 shot and not as spendy as the Bond. But it lacks the barrel swapping feature.
