Some of the criterion for a "bad" grade -

"prohibits litigation against gun manufacturers"

"does not allow the carrying of concealed weapons, but it does not allow cities and counties to enact ordinances to prevent gun violence or regulate secondary sales"

Of course the first one they list is: "No Child Access Prevention law" - The "Its for the children" sacred cow (no one dares to speak against the sacred cow)

For more of the idiocy, go to the website.

Notice that even Mass and Hawaii are only A-.

If that doesn't point to absolute ownership bans as their end goal nothing else will.

CA got B+, and CT got A-, that is so messed up.
CA no CCW
CT shall issue
CA 10round limit
CT How high do they manufacture those?
CA no AR-15s
CT What is with that?

I think they need to recalculate, and besides half the US gun companies either started in CT, or were here at some point, Remington, Mossberg, S&W, Colt, (heck Colt was born here.)

Colorado deserves at least a D, since all of the state except Denver has open and/or concealed carry in motor vehicles without any sort of permit.

You can always count on leftist extremists to mess up the facts, I guess.

I don't get it, why are so many states with high crime rates getting good grades?

CA does have CCW, the resident's chances of getting it depend on what county they live in.

Utah got a D-. I'm proud. Surpisingly, some states that are open carry like VA got a 'higher' score....

I don't know why Texas got a D- I need to call my legislators and shoot for an F- next year

Copy that here in Kentucky too:D . I'm still trying to figure out how Indiana which has had CCW on the books since the 1930's managed a D. The fact that Ohio has a C and looks to be improving except for the ***** and their "bans":banghead:

From the Brady site (note that this is old data but still interesting):

Texas received a lower grade in 1999, falling from a D to a D- because it does not have a juvenile possession law, does not regulate secondary sales, does not allow cities and counties to enact ordinances to prevent gun violence and does allow the carrying of concealed weapons. Governor George W. Bush failed to push the legislature to close the gun show loophole, while promoting and signing a bill that gives immunity from civil prosecution to the gun industry. The state does have reasonable restrictions on juvenile sales and a child access prevention law. In 1996, 361 children and teenagers in Texas died as a result of firearms.

Again from the Brady site:

Indiana maintained its 1998 grade of D because it has very weak private sales laws. Unfortunately, the state wiped out its long-standing seven day waiting period on handgun sales. The state also has a weak law on carrying concealed handguns with an age limit of only eighteen years old. It also does not allow cities and counties to enact gun violence prevention legislation. The legislature also rejected a Child Access Prevention bill this session for the fourth year in a row. In 1996, 98 children and teenagers in Indiana died as a result of firearms.

I think I am going to quit quoting the Brady site - I am wasting THR bandwidth. You just have to click on the link in the orginal post to see what they said about any particular state.

Louisiana may have the most corrupt, inefficient State government in the Union, and the most incompetent municipality (i.e. New Orleans), but by jingo, we rate an F with Brady! We can hold our heads high!

Go BIG EASY!

That list is from 1999 ... a lot has chanaged since 1999 (for one thing Colorado went from may issue to shall issue)

One of the other anti-gun sites gave New Hampshire an F, because getting a CCW is a matter of you not being a criminal, $10 and a couple of days.

I was so proud!

Oh, yeah....and Mass gets an A-, while Vermont, NH, and Maine get D-s and F's.
Guess which state has high, and rising violent crime rates, and which three have almost NONE?

Huh! How about that!

What the heck? Vermont is only a D-? And why the heck did TX score lower than PA? TX is like Massachusetts compared to PA!
