Has anyone had experience ordering a gun from Buds and having it sent to a preferred dealer? Maybe I'm paranoid but I'm afraid I would order a gun and have it sent there only for the dealer to be pissed that I didn't buy directly from them.

Well, of course. I guess I was wondering if anyone had had a dealer who was annoyed at transferring a purchase from Buds even though they were a preferred dealer and had been notified beforehand.

If they stock the firearm in question in their shop, I'm sure they get a little annoyed. They're still making money off the transfer fee though, and less money from a sale is better than no money from no sale.

Plus, they're a "preferred" dealer for a reason. :p

Yeah, they can't be preferred unless they want to be, so he shouldn't be annoyed. Give him a call after it ships so he knows what to expect.

You can use any FFL you want when ordering through Buds. I use the preferred FFL even if it costs a few bucks more. I want to get my gun as promised, not a headache if the salesman gets the address wrong. All gun shops know Buds sells a lot of guns. It's up to them to get on Buds list of preferred FFL pick up points.

If they re preferred then they're kinda used to it, though fees aren't standardized so ask around. Even the preferred dealers seem to have fees ranging from $20 to-$60 here. Pawn shops in particular are pretty good about being cheap and seeing it as free money just for having a shipping address. That being said if its a type of gun I don't have a lot of experience with I do prefer to go with a gun shop so I can get a little bit of info on it, not all pawnshops around here are all that knowledgeable about guns.

An FFL has to ask Bud's to be a preferred dealer. That is, they have to *want* to do transfers for Bud's customers. There's no reason in the world for them to be annoyed when you buy a gun through Bud's and transfer it through them.

I'm a Bud's preferred FFL. It doesn't bother me a bit to transfer a gun from them.

Yep. Heck the guy I use doesn't sell guys - he just transfers them. If you follow his "shop"'s Facebook page he reshares Bud's sales and promotions because he wants the transfer business :).

Buds "preferred" dealers have agreed in advance to accept transfers from Buds.

Heck, I've considered applying for an FFL license after I graduate to make a little extra cash just doing transfers. I'll have to see in a few years whether or not the investment will pay off financially (I figure at the very least its less risky than opening a shop and having to front a million bucks on inventory alone).

If my FFL doesn't want $25.00 for 5 minutes of his time, then I will find someone else who does.
He has told me he doesn't have the ability to get close to Bud's prices.......he takes my money and does the transfer.

To be fair, he'll spend a lot more than 5 minutes to process your transfer. He'll have to receive your shipment, unpack it, and log the gun into his A&D book. He'll have to notify you that your gun is in, and when you show up, give up a 4473 to fill out. He'll check it over, and either call in your NICS check or type your info into NICS eCheck, and then wait for a result. If it's a delay, he'll have to wait longer. If he gets a proceed, then he'll have to complete the 4473, give you your gun, and finally log the gun out of his A&D book.

That takes more than 5 minutes. Trust me.

Please, let's not revisit the same old "Transfers are easy money!" vs. "You have no idea how much work a transfer really is!" argument in this thread.

Eh, I dunno. The guy I got to do my transfer actually works out of his house and is a dealer as a second job, so to speak. Very little overhead. Let's say it takes him 30 minutes total (which I feel is pretty generous) to process the transfer. If he charges $25, that equates to $50/hour. Now, for the sake of argument lets say 50% of that money goes to taxes, overhead, etc. That's still $25/hour which is pretty respectable.

It's not an argument. They are easy money. But they're also not 5 minutes.

Oh, I know. I consider my FFL a friend, and we have talked at length about what's involved.
When I said "5 minutes", I was speaking in generalities.

But we both know he is making money, and he should - so I don't see a problem.

We are a Bud's Preferred Dealer. Bud's had to ask us if we wanted it, they don't just assign that designation to any FFL who registers with their site.

While a heads-up that a gun is inbound is nice to have, it's not required since it's a rare day that we don't have a gun shipped in for transfer.

I picked a 'Bud's Preferred' kitchen-table FFL for my Bud's purchase, and the guy could not have been happier to have the transfer business. He was close, convenient, and it all went quite smoothly.

No worries.

I was lucky enough to have my local shop/range show up as a preferred dealer when I purchased my M&P 40c. I know the people up there and they were happy to do business with me. I did give them a call while I was waiting for the shipping though.

I don't know why any well stocked gun shop would not want to do transfers through Buds. Almost everyone that buys a gun needs ammo and accessories. Most gun shops are in business to sell stuff.
