There are plenty of good reasons to stay away from used weapons in general. Ever been to a range? Take a look at the way some people treat their firearms.
You never buy used cars or appliances, either? Because there's a lot more that can go wrong with them, and they are often things you can't detect, even with a thorough inspection. Guns, OTOH, are pretty simple, and potential problems usually very easy to see just by working the action and field stripping them.
Besides, most used guns are fairly lightly used. I've bought so many that may as well have been new I can't even count them anymore. I just know I let the first buyer take the hit on depreciation and ended up with a nice gun for less money.
