This poll is referencing the thread "Would you trust your life with a 380" - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=616108

I realized that the question was personal/subjective and the discussion would be endless without sufficient conclusion as different people had differing "definitions" of what they would feel was "adequate" of a caliber to trust their life with.

So, decided to do a curiosity poll as to "What caliber would you trust your life with?

I would suggest that this question be qualified with typical conceal carry compacts, subcompacts and pocket pistols.

I voted for all but .380 LOL. I have most of them but never saw the reasoning on a .380. The ammo is as much or more than 9mm and I can get it in any package so why limit myself.

I love my 9mm but would not mind using a 10mm or 40 S&W and the .45 has already proven itself as a life saver. .380 to me is a BUG only kind of deal or last ditch effort.

?

just what the hell does it mean to "trust your life" to a caliber. I see this all the time on gun forums. It makes no sense to me.

Hey look at which caliber is losing this poll. Hmm...I wonder why that is...?

Now now. This poll is of "Conceal Carry-able" pistols. :D And I left out 45 Super (and other derivative calibers) for a reason.

Well Russ, this polled thread started when I realized that the reference thread's question of "Would you trust your life with a .380" was based on subjective and personal definition of what "adequate" protection was. And since there was no objective lethality data to make any conclusion, the discussion (arguments for/against the .380Auto) would have continued.

What I am trying to gauge with this polled thread is what the general consensus of how people are defining "adequate" for "trusting your life" is. For me, that's at least 9mm +P JHP. For you, it maybe very different.

In time, we should have an ongoing polling results with maybe enough statistical sample to indicate what the "majority" of THR members view as the minimum caliber they would "trust" their lives with. So instead of several people insisting what their definition of "adequate" is, I am leaning on the opinion of greater average. At least I think so.

Of course, I am married ... and have been proven by my wife that I am often wrong on my assumptions. :uhoh:

So, cast your vote and add to the THR poll sample! :D

For me it's anything 9mm or bigger. I don't like the .380, and I highly doubt I will ever own one.

I selected .40 S&W because at the moment, it's the only caliber listed that I own. Therefore, I trust a .40 the most right now

I trust my aim more than the caliber.
I looked at 380s recently and settled for a keltec pf9. I already have 9mm loading equipment and didn't want to have to buy .380 tooling.
After shooting the pf9 I know I made the right choice.
I can load my 9's down to .380 speed or bring them up to +p if I want, I like versitility.
My vote would be what ever works for my situation, anything from 9mm up.
I love my .357's more than anything else listed though.
