Shootergirl88, I do the same thing. When I walk through malls, I always keep an eye out for concrete planters to take cover behind. Just in case. But thats because I KNOW I'm weird.

Isn't that called situational awareness? Complacency kills!

Home invasions occur in "nice" areas as well as in "bad" areas.

Seems I remember the last big news home invasion here was in a wealthy neighborhood. At that time, I lived in a neighborhood that some of my friends wouldn't even venture into due to crime around the area. Turns out, my block was one of the safer areas in town on the crime map. Of course, I had Bobby across the street who would shoot his guns off in the front yard once in awhile. Maybe that helped.

I carry at home or at a minimum have a weapon at the ready. Funny thing is my wife thought I was odd for carrying in-home. That is until some creepy dude wanting to "clean our carpets for free" came knocking and would not take no for an answer. Now she doesn't mind.

i carry 99.7% of the time. about the only pleces i do not, is at church, a hospital, or in the shower. and as for my wife, she is happier when i do have it. so much for that theory!
