CCW...and dating?

met current GF 14 years ago... she was anti, and knew I loved guns and shooting... since her bro and oldest son had guns, I figured it was ok...

eventually, we split up (not over guns)

7 or 8years ago, we got back together... I had just gotten my ccw...

second date, met at my place, I was getting ready to go out the door with her, I scoop up my Smith & Wesson 5904, and shove it home, into the Galco Jak-Slide, at 4-o-clock...

she raised an eyebrow and said nothing, so I offered only that I had a permit, and carried about 24/7...

she asked "why" I answered "for my safety and yours" end of convo, no problems...

fast forward, today she owns her own guns...

HONESTY is the ONLY WAY! tell her now, if it's a big problem for her, then better to deal with it asap...

Wow, I guess that's a unified answer then. I'll be tactful but get the truth out and not dwell on it. Either she accepts or doesn't.

Funny, I have been reading up on common date mistakes. One is to come across as being too accomodating, lessening ones 'authority' over themselves. Looks like I need to get back on track.

This is what happens when you don't date for aeons.:banghead:

Chris, if you're a hunter, don't forget to mention that, too!!

Some women will be "okay" with CCW... but not with "killing poor Bambi."

Just a suggestion... from experience. :)

"There's something you should know about me. It's perfectly legal, but some people have a problem with it."
Just let it come up whenever it comes up. Don't set it up as something objectionable, and then put her on the spot.

chris, do you mean Spanish or Hispanic (Mexican, Cuban, etc.)?

This is a question that I ask before the first "date",
in that getting-to-know-her time over coffee,
or a discussion at a party:

"What do you think about guns?"

If the answer is positive: proceed.
If the answer is negative: move along, nothing to see here.

By the way, what, exactly, is a "date"?

After TEOTWAWKI,
do you think 'date' will remain in our language?

Rhetorical question.
The word has already fallen out of my vocabulary.

Don't give up, you'll get a date someday. You just haven't found the right girl.

Seriously, though, what do you mean? I just went through two years of dating and our new marriage is perfect. I think she already knew about the guns, though, and my prior military service made it seem quite natural.

My last GF was Mexican/American

But she allways called it Spaniard:neener:
Like Eva Longoria, she grew up with guns and never had a problem with me being a "gun nut" on our first date I told her.
I am a gun nut, I own and talk about them and call up oliticians and give them a pice of my mind about them.

She responed that she wanted me to go hunting for
someting called "javelina" and told me I had to kill
a baby one cause they taste better!

Yet my ex really is a liberal, just like Eva is and a pretty good shot.

Seriously, though, what do you mean?
With respect, I "mean" that the term "date" was what I did in high school and early college years,
but (in the ensuing 30) I have moved on to a different model of relations between man & woman.

YMMV.

I'll let you deduce that one, Mike.

It's different for each person,
and each couple.

All I'm saying is,
sometimes, I think people get too constrained by the term "date".
Like there's some kind of rule set, even a contract, around that idea.
Protocol, rigid rule set, taboos.

Dress {this way}; always open the door for her; don't discuss guns.

For me, it's just be yourself, and let her be who she is.
No bull. Straight up. Just go along for the ride, and see what happens.

If it works, cool.
If not, move on
(sooner than later).

YMMV.

Regards,

Nem

In past dating, I've encountered a few women that totally freaked about me having a gun, let alone carrying one daily. A few have shown interest and some have even wanted to go to the range. The most interesting was with my now wife. We had gone out for about 5 months when the gun issue came up. We both used to smoke at the time and I had a SIG logo zippo lighter, which is what sparked the conversation. Went something like "Do you have one of those?" meaning a SIG. She was the first woman I had dated that actually knew what a SIG was! Long story short, once a week we started doing a movie-range-dinner date in addition to our normal getting together. She definatly turned out to be a keeper!

Is she "Spanish," or Hispanic? "Spanish" means she's from Spain.

My wife is Hispanic. She's pretty anti ... but the rest of her family aren't. When we visited the family in South America over Christmas, her son (adult) found out I shoot and asked me to teach him. Then her sister asked me to teach her son how to shoot.

They aren't all anti ... no more than Americans are all anti.

Tell her upfront as soon as possible , you may get lucky (or unlucky) as I did . Now the 2 for 1 rule applies (For every 2 guns I buy , I have to buy her one or a new power tool for her wood shop :uhoh: )

Have her come over to your place, and have your entire arsenal laid out in the family room for spring cleaning- everything; including the AR-15 and SKS with bayonet. Have Red Dawn playing on the DVD. As she shows up at the front door, you'll be standing there with a fresh beer in one hand and a cleaning brush in the other... the smell of Rem-Oil hanging heavy in the air like sweet perfume. :uhoh:

It is a sink or swim confrontation. She either freaks out and runs, or she comes on in and accepts you! :)

While guns and relationships are important, I got a $1 says more problems are caused by toliet seat positions, which way the toliet paper is on the roll, flavor of salad dressing, chocolate preferences, how iced tea and coffee are taken, and trash can liners.

I need to sell blow up rubber boy and girl dolls with rubber guns.

Life would be simpler if the toliet paper was never put on a roll, just on the back of the toilet, and guys went out back and tinkeled on the flowers. Each gender gets a box of baking soda to stick a toothbrush in to brush teeth, and just drank water.

Guns last longer than most relationships today, Dogs are unconditional. "How to be like a dog" should be a must read for humans.

Not a gender thing, just guns happen to be in MSM and all.

Cynical, not dating, not looking "what guns?" and happy.

I just happen to prefer to be around like minded folks, being a guy, I know what I smell like, girls sure do smell pretty when you meet them at the shooting place. :)

Guns, Sweat, and Gals
-copyright ... gonna copyright that right now- might use it someday...

I've got a date with a fine looking

21 year old gal this week!
we are going shooting!
Not bad for a 45 year old dude if you ask me!

Cradle robbing pervert :neener:

Anyway, bring it up after a date or two and get it in the open. Why not wait? Cause I'm tired of "my so and so wants my guns gone" threads thats why.

Oh and hunting too. Girl I work with we talk about my guns on occasion and she can hold a half decent conversation about them and isn't bothered by them. Then one day she was developing a thirty minute photo order and started freaking out about something dead I go "oh great....what the heck is on there psyco killer photos or something" I'm serious she acted like there was a dismembered body on there or something. So I go look and theres a guy with a big smile posing with dead bambi....I couldn't bring myself to say anything, I was to busy giving her the stupid silent you have got to be kidding me stare. You know the one...the one you use when words simply can't express to the person what you want to say.

On my second date with my current wife, we stopped by the gun shop to pick up a Ruger MK II I had ordered. She thought it was cool. Got that out of the way real fast. :)

Last date I went on, she was over 21...I'm still not....so I had her buy me some handgun ammo:eek: .
