I think it's a good option to be able to flash a badge at someone who is harassing you.
No, it's not. It's at best gonna get you sneered at, and at worst get you arrested for impersonating an officer.

It's a really really bad idea.

This is another required item for those skinhead guys you see at the mall dressed in black cheap canvas clothing and combat boots. Even my 12 old grandson laughs at them.

Every LEO I know has an opinion on this. That opinion is that if they see some fool waving one of those around, they're going to find some way to arrest him and take it away.

Get you one of those "cool" ball caps that say 'FBI', while your at it. I think only idiots would buy such a badge; and no one but a complete idiot would flash it to the cops!

Now that I think about it...I bet Gecko45 has one of those badges! lol

Men with Badges

A task force consisting of a DEA agent, an ATF and an FBI agent arrive at a ranch in western Nebraska.

The agents tell the rancher, "We need to inspect your ranch for illegal drugs."

"Help yourself," the old rancher says, "but don't go in that field over there."

The DEA agent practically explodes. He whips out has badge, sticks it in the rancher's face. "Mister, we have the authority of the Federal Government behind us," he sneers, "and we'll go anywhere we feel like going. Got it?!"

"Yes, sir," the rancher says.

"Good," the agent says. "Now you can go about your chores while we go about ours."

A few minutes later, the old rancher hears screams and looks up to see the agents in the field he warned them about. All three are running for their lives -- close behind is his biggest, meanest bull. With every step the bull is gaining ground on the agents. They are clearly terrified.

The old rancher immediately throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs...

"Your badges! Show him your badges!"

The moral of the story? Badges are always a great idea! I'd say you should have at least 5 of them. One for on your person, one for your car, one for your house, one for your dog and one kept in a secret safe location just in case you lose the other ones.

If I could afford them, I would buy a badge for each of my gun-carrying friends!!!! I think they are a GREAT IDEA!!!!! ...for a gag gift :)

I think it's a good idea but not for the reason the OP listed.

I think it's a good option to be able to flash a badge at someone who is harassing you. That way you should not get in trouble for impersonating an officer. It says CCW on it, not police.

That sounds somewhat reasonable on the surface, but not after consideration. What if they call your bluff? I've seen idiots act hard and non-compliant with 3 or 4 uniformed deputies surrounding them. Is one "plain clothes officer" with no backup really gonna stop those types in their tracks? A more likely scenario is them realizing it's gonna take a while for one plain clothes or off duty cop (at least that's what you want them to think you are) to get any back up on scene, and they'll probably spit on you and walk away with impunity.

The killer is picking people off as he comes down the hall. I find my position. When he is where I want him, I fire. We exchange gunfire. I win. He goes down.

Your first tactical error was interject yourself into a situation that didn't concern you or someone you're responsible for unless you were directly threatened while attempting a hasty retreat.

CCW badge= Dumb idea to spend your money on. Bad idea if you are actually going to wear it and use it.

I brought the badge up with our Police Chief. His comment was, if one of these things is ever shown to one of my officers it is with out a doubt that the guy will get a ticket for something.

If the perp has a gun and you flash your badge he will most likely already have his weapon in hand. Don't bring a badge to a gunfight!

Actually, that's just your opinion. Everyone is free to choose for themselves how much risk they are willing to take to protect life in a situation. Some like the "just be a good witness" role. And that's fine for them and it's their choice. But some feel that all innocent life is worth the effort, even if it isn't their own or their families. This is also their choice, not yours. It's unbecoming of you to call this choice an error simply because you have chosen different priorities for you.

Problem being most people who wear a badge of any kind tend to think of themselves as and authority figure. Just think of all the mall cops you see. I've been a LEO for 7 years now and it never cease to amaze me at how many people like to "act" like cops. But I really don't care one way or another about the CCW badge. Sorry, flash the badge all you want but if you got a gun on your person and you've just shot someone, your more than likely going into cuffs until they see that ID card for you CCW.

I see CarryBadges as the same ilk as CowboyAction, NASCAR, Perfesshonul Rasslin', and soap-opera watchers: voyeurs and WANNABEES.

You forgot Trekkies! LOL

Nope, I wouldn't buy one of them thar badges except to maybe give to a buddy as a gag!

Mikey!

Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to remember this the next time I encounter a mass murderer.

I thought it was a bad idea. Now I'm not so sure of my self. A badge that says "Pistol Permit" or something like that, is not pretending to be a cop.

Should Public employees think that they are some kind of elete because of a badge?

Seeing how many CCW licensees could be the subject of a "Man with a Gun" call from observent citizens, puting a badge next to a holster might save someone's life.

Too bad the public dosen't get that criminals are not wearing a Kydex or Leather holster for their weapons; just some baggy undies.

Why are we always ascribing bad motivations to the most law abiding members of society and making excuses for the worst criminals?
