Charles Daley 1911

Is this current Charles Daly or an historic Charles Daly?

Charles Daly is a brand name only. Nothing thus branded was ever made by a company this named. The brand has been owned by a fair few enterprises over time. Historically, there have been some real gems. I believe there were genuine German made Lugers sold as Charles Daly and certainly some very good Miroku made Citori pattern shotguns, for example, sold under the brand.

But there have also been some dogs in recent memory, as in some very shoddily built Turkish semi autos for example. And some very poor quality Eibar made doubles.

So, who made the 1911 in question? Any pics?

The only CD firearm I've owned was a Charles Daly Hi-power clone.
It exhibited rather mysterious failures to eject every so often with many different types of ammunition. It was sent in for service twice (the 2nd time was returned with a replaced slide and barrel).

I still own this pistol but I'm not incredibly fond of it.

I had a 2000’s- era Charles Daly 1911 that looked similar to the one below (mine had regular checkered walnut grip panels, not the Pachmayr set)

It was ok, worth what I paid for it but not more. It wasn’t finished as well as higher cost guns and the thumb safety lever cracked after about 550 rounds went through it so I replaced the lever with a higher quality one.

My only real dislike with the gun was the huge “Charles Daly” and “.45 ACP” screen-printed on each side... but that is merely a cosmetic thing more than anything else.

The magazines that came with it worked well and I don’t recall it stumbling on the 230 gr fmj I fed it for several years.

Like all guns in its class, it’s not a match winner but not a hunk of junk either. With the CD I had I pretty much got what I paid for :).

Stay safe.

Edit: Got interrupted, forgot the picture! o_O

Well, today I found a RIA 1911A1 for 69.00 less than the asking price on the C.D. so i went with the RIA.
Thanks for the feedback folks.
Always appreciated!

Hope you will enjoy. I have a compact FDE and have been very pleased with it, especially it's ability to digest any ammo it's fed.

The Charles Daly 1911s were made by Armscor, the same company that makes RIA.

Not sure but did see Italy stamped on the slide. Current manufactured.

As the folks I've quoted above you allude to, there is a current Charles Daly 1911 and they aren't made by Armscor.

Didn't know the Charles Daly name had been revived again. So they are now being made by Chiappa? I would take an Armscor or Turkish 1911 over anything made by Chiappa.

Not a 1911 but kinda on topic of opinions on CDaly quality. 15 or so years back I bought a new CDaly 20 gauge semi auto at Walmart. Of Turkish origin. Primarily because it was so light. Came with a complete extra gas piston/springs/seals and 3 choke tubes.

Used it for 10 grouse seasons in some pretty bad conditions. Always ran flawlessly and still have the new wrapped replacement gas system on standby. I’d buy another one in a heartbeat if I needed it.

But that's the issue with CD; the manufacturer is a crap shoot. The CD Miroku made O/U are world class but they offered some Khan made O/U more recently that were criminally gimcrack. The key is finding out who the manufacturer of the particular CD model on offer is.

A little over a decade ago, just before the earlier iteration of Charles Daly went down the tubes, they were just about to leave their arrangement with Armscor (or they had already parted ways), and contract with Bul for a new 1911.

Charles Daly spent some time polling one of the 1911 forums for inputs on what features they'd like to see on the new gun. Late in the process, after the features had been sorted out, Bul decided to sell that pistol to Magnum Research, and Charles Daly subsequently went down the tubes.
