Concealed Carry Pictures (please)

Appendix IWB works for me. I find that, while the traditional 4 O'clock position would require an extra inch in the waistband of my pants for comfort, there's a "hollow" in front of the hip. That's where the P-11 rides.

I also find that it's easier to tuck a pistol that's in front, than it is to tuck a pistol behind the hip.

I don't think you'll like a shoulder holster; it depends on your arm length. If you have gorilla arms, that's a huge advantage, and you'll be able to reach around an ample torso without trouble. "Hunching" your shoulders forward assists the draw and shortens the reach.

I'm including a pic of my P-11 in appendix carry in a Galco "USA" holster, as well as an article I wrote, reviewing the Ken Null SMZ shoulder holster. The article includes pics.

Best wishes. Just remember that carry is possible, once you find what works for you!

SMZ Review

Well....my first observation is this:

Carry your money IN your wallet...no need for a money clip and one thing not needed in your pocket.

Do you really need to carry nail clippers? Isnt that a maintenance thing that is done at home anyway? I see that as one more item not needed in your pocket.

Now, you mentioned that small "extra set of keys"...do you need those or could they be left in the car, or combined onto the other key ring?

This is potentially 3 things removed from your carry and may free up some room for you. Pocket carry is very viable for you IMHO. You have to learn to dress around your gun and then life gets easier.

If I had it my way, I would carry my G23 OWB all day at work, BUT, I wear a shirt/tie, but no jacket. So, I carry like this:

G26 or 642 on my ankle OR 642 in RF pocket. Knife in RR pocket. Wallet/money in LF pocket. I carry a pen in my shirt.

I see a ton of folks carry all sorts of stuff and ask myself if they really use ANY of it even 5% of the time?

Well I'm a bit over 5'10 in height and a bit over 280 in weight so I certainly qualify as fat, and not that far from short by the standards of the younger generations.

Like you I did not care for IWB and cannot often wear a cover garment.

My solution was essentially the same as your conclusion except I went the Kahr PM9 route because I shoot it much better than the P3AT I had before it and appreciate the extra power of the 9mm +P it holds (shoots comfier too). While it's certainly bigger, it still fits well in a loose fit jeans or khaki pocket and prints just like a wallet if that. I put all my other stuff in my left pocket (or jacket pocket in cold weather) and the Kahr and holster alone in the right pants pocket.

I can recommend a KD Holsters Pocket Defender most heartily with either choice.

Sorry no pics to post, but you can probably imagine a fat guy with a "wallet" in his pocket that only shows when seated. ;)

what stuff where?

I'd suggest putting the items that don't need be conceled in the open on your belt and save your pocket for your piece.

Cell phone (on a belt clip), knife (in a belt holster) and keys (clipped to belt loop).

Personally, I don't like to pocket all the non-essential stuff and prefer to keep it both in my car and desk.

I don't mind going without.....especially the cell phone. :)

You know, picture 1. Do you see it and then picture 2. Here it is.

Fobus paddle and loose cover shirt. Smart Carry and denim shorts. Both with Taurus PT-145 MilPRO (extra mag in Smart Carry.) Sorry about the pasty belly!

Don't believe everything the nice policemen tell you.

"The two instructors (one a former SWAT Team director; the other an inner-city Sergeant) I studied under advocate carrying the maximum that one can carry...multiple pistols and as much ammunition as can be carried. They specifically advocate having a firearm at the ready on either leg and on the waist (or both sides if ambidextrous as I am). They carry 4 or 5 pistols".

I see many legal issues and training problems with their philosophy.

I'm not allowed to carry. Let that preface everything I'm about to say.

I'd say there are only four things that should be on your person at all times: weapon, wallet, phone and keys. Anything else is surplus, really. Glasses can be kept in a shirt neck or on your head, sans tube. One set of keys will suffice, and that should be limited to only the keys you really use when youre out and about. Money clip? That's what the wallet is for.

Now you're down to four things in your pantaloons. That could easily be one thing per pocket, assuming you've got four reasonable pockets.

Honestly, I think the heavier guys have it way easier. Its a lot easier to pack a full size weapon when you're bigger and pass it off as "that's all man, baby."

Its us skinny twigs that have to really trim down the loadout to hide something.

I think you should carry as much as you can get away with. If it becomes to uncomfortable then you should probably ditch some things. I too am not allowed to carry due to state law. However I think the above poster hit the nail on the head with his four things and carrying other things. The trick is to figure out how to carry all the things you want comfortably. I personally plan to carry a few things once I move to a free state:

Wallet
P2000sk IWB (in any of the following: C-Tac, Kramer #3, Milt Sparks VM II)
2 Spare 12 round mags on double mag pouch
Cell phone (currently a Nextel 830 but probably a 560)
Keys (Car and house keys only)
Boker HK P2000 knife in right front pocket
Surefire E2E flashlight clipped on side pocket of pants
Small knife for cutting food (Lots of fruit and things)
If I feel very insecure about the situation then I may add an HK P2000 to the mix.

I am sure this will get me through the day safely. And if it does not it is my fault for not being prepared.

4 or 5 pistols sounds perfectly reasonable if you are headed into combat where you are prohibited from bringing a rifle or shotgun and you anticipate loosing at least two guns in the fight. If you are really so concerned then I would use the weight from those other two or three guns for ammo. No disrespect but until I see a compelling case made for such redundancy I will continue to see it as weird.

What if it was ONE man with SIX guns. :D

"And Shepherds we shall be

For thee, my Lord, for thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand

Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.

So we shall flow a river forth to Thee

And teeming with souls shall it ever be"

Sorry. It was just too good to resist. :D

spyderdude certainly does indeed appear to be very excited about his 1911.

And who could blame him.

Shut up and post a pic

he is most definitely cocked and locked :neener:

And also note how he's avoiding the possibility of negligent discharge by keeping his finger off the trigger until he's actually ready to shoot.

Kudos!

May I commend your excellent job of holster construction using woven palm fronds and coconuts, little buddy!

;)

Thats hilarious. I didn't know that Mr. Furley from Threes Company carried while wearing his kimono. I bet he is the life of the party when he pulls out his .45 down at the Regal Beagle.

just my 2 cents.....keltec p3at in the front pocket works 99% of the time...you catch your self patting your pocket to see if it is there....jeans, dress, or shorts work...if i can wear a jacket, i step up the fire power....gpr

I think this thread somehow has an inherent risk of making you look like an old TV character if your pic shows any part of your head. :)

Now all I can imagine is Mr. Furley packing a 1911, and Gilligan packing an H&K in their respective shows.
