No pix but:I'm a fat guy too...here's the 2 ways I carry:my fav. is pocket carry of a 642 in a Desantis nemesis holster.Another way I found that I really like,is a desantis thumbreak holster between my belt and pants.Kind of like IWB,but not.IWB didn't work for me either. This method keeps the gun tight to my body. That was an SP101 I carried that way.But I still prefer pocket carry.Depending on your pockets, you could probably carry a gun as big as Glock 26 even.I know I can Carry a 2"k-frame,or my PT111 w/out too much trouble.

My everyday carry method, a sweater vest over my SP101. In Maine where I live, it's usually cool enough for sweater vests, but when it gets hot, then an untucked hawaiian shirt works good.

tanksoldier, any chance of you posting those pics? I'm looking at carrying a 226 in a shoulder holster and I'd like to see how it looks on someone else.

Also, in regards to the buttons, ever thought about replacing a couple, or all, of the buttons with velcro? You could sew the buttons back in place so it looks like they're still there, but the velcro is what's holding the shirt closed. I'm thinking about getting a shirt to try this on soon.

to the OP, i'm a short fat person as well (5'9" , 310)

try a different holster if you don't like iwb. i carry a 3" 1911 (soon to be 5") in a crossbreed supertuck and i find it very comfortable, hardly ever notice it's there.

no pics, though

also i came in here to post the il duce pic :D

I second the above post. Although I don't have it yet (they're a little behind schedule) I have ordered a Crossbreed SuperTuck, and from what I have read, it is more or less perfect for keeping your carry piece comfortably separating from flub, while staying perfectly concealed. They're not too badly priced in comparison to other leather holsters, and seem to have the idea down right.
I carry my CZ75B full size in a cheapo uncle mikes IWB, and it sure can be darn uncomfortable at times, especially while sitting. This is why I opt for OWB, but even then it's not so comfortable. I think the main reason for this is because I wear my pants lower than most people, since I have a very long torso in comparison to my legs.
When I get my CrossBreed I would be happy to let you know how it goes.

Hi,

I'm 5'9" tall, and TWICE the man I was in High School (weight-wise). Thus, I'm quite familiar with the challenges of a fat-tazzz like myself toting a handgun, CCW-wise.

A heavy gun will pull the ol' pants down, so ya gotta go light.

A fat gun will bulge too much, so ya gotta go thin

A full holster will also add too much bulk, so ya gotta go minimal.

A BUG will not be reliable enough, so ya gotta go with a big, fat, slow bullet.

An IWB will be terrible to try to wear with one's ample belly in the way, so OWB is the way to go.

MY SOLUTION + PHOTOS

A 3' officer's sized 1911 auto with an aluminum frame in .45ACP, with a melt-down package and night sights . . . in a Bianchi 105 "Minimallist" holster. This holster is fairly cheap ($40) but it holds the gun well, doesn't add much bulk, and pulls the grip tight against the body with a cinched up belt.

My gun is a first generation Kimber Ultra CDP that goes bang every time and is super-accurate too. I feel quite well armed.

I wear it slightly BEHIND the hip bone so that the gun will not protrude to my side, thus the barrel tucks in and points at my wallet (I'm a lefty), and the gun also tucks into the small of the back above my fat-tazzzzz . . . virtually disappearing under an unbuttoned shirt with the tail out.

Most importantly, for those of us with protruding stomachs, the gun tucks into the small of the back and the snugged gun actually HELPS keeping the belt up if you get it far enough back like I wear it!

Heck, it is even comfortable enough this way to wear while driving . . . and the draw is still fast enough!

Here's a montage of photos . . . heck, I never tell my wife if I'm packing and she never notices it, nor do my friends. That's what is supposed to happen with CCW too!;)

XavierBreath,

Do you ever feel pressured by social situations to take off the jacket when in doors or at dinner, etc? I love the idea of wearing a nice sport coat, but I always feel the need to take it off when other people take off their jackets or sport coats...especially if the weather is moderate.

That is where the lightweight linen sportscoats comes in.........

Seriously, in hot, humid Louisiana, after getting used to wearing a lab coat in 100 degree heat, a light sportscoat doesn't bother me. It's a lot less obvious than a Hawaiian shirt IMO, and it hides my sweaty armpits. There is no social rule that says a man should take off his jacket, instead, there are places where it is customary that he keep his jacket on. In circles where I relax a bit and remove the sportscoat, most fellows have a pistol on their hip anyway.

If I'm going to go with shorts and a T-shirt, I switch to pocket carry with a J-frame.

I guess I need to get out more..........

This is the reason I wear vests. As XB has said the light linen cover vests are excellent & no one ever expects them to be remove.

Great big plus is that sleeves NEVER get in the way either. Velcro closures when needed are easy & fast access. I also use have a J-frame for pocket carry when it is necessary.

Here's my lightning-wear (bad take-off of thunderwear):) However I tried the thunderwear and love the idea but not the fit of it. So I ventured out on my own to make my own version specifically fit to carry the P3AT only. So it is much smaller and a lot more comfortable IMO. This is perfect for surfshorts or athletic shorts. I bet I could even jog with it since it is so small.
Granted I have never taken a sewing class much less sewed more than a button on something so it ain't perfect but it works. Cost me $12 for a cheap sewing machine at wally world, $2.44 for the denim material, $2 for the trim so it doesn't fray, and $4 for the velcro. I reinforced the corners of the seams with a hand needle and thread and then a dab of superglue. And yes I like my material much better than straight blue denim.

Sistema,
It's not my clan's unfortunately. I just thought denim was out this year so I went with this.:what:
Just kidding. This feels like a much more durable fabric and a lot softer than the denim they had.

I'm 5'9", and carry 3 rigs -- a full sized 1911, a 637, and a full sized P99 .40, all in CTAC holsters with a 5 stitch Wilderness Instructor belt.

The 1911:

The 637:

I have several guns to choose from to carry ,HK USP, AMT BU45, Bersa Thunder 9... but I often choose my KT32 front strongside pocket or SOB KT clip. I work semi casual and have never been discovered. I will look into that tucker iwb that I saw in this post asap.

Not wanting to start a argument, but I would recommend that you do not get a Kahr PM-9
My pm9 has been ultra reliable, even as it was in the 200 rds break-in period Kahr stated clearly this gun needs to work reliably most of the time. Mine has only gotten smoother the more I shoot it, now with 400+ rds through it

Plus 1 on the reply. My PM9 is my "every day" CHL--totally reliable, dead accruate and perfectly proportioned. It's arrival allowed (nearly forced) the sale of five j-frames.

FWIW, I am 5'9", 135# with a 31" waist (two major surgeries in three months will do that to you). :uhoh:
Works beautifully in pocket carry with a DeSantis Nemesis (although I am thinking of adding a Mika to the fold). This works in any pants, shorts, jeans I own (except the nutt-huggerz I really thought looked good 10 years ago:confused: ).

Second choice is Smart Carry. Works well with a PM9 or a J-frame, can be made to work with larger pistols but not terribly comfortable. This is actually my preferred method for boating shorts, etc.

I acquired a Kahr P45 last summer and have carried it throughout the "fall/winter/spring" here in Texas (mid-November until mid-March, and that's pressing it).
I have carried the P45 using the same DeSantis Nemesis for pocket carry. Also IWB using a new UBG Holster (plug for Nate, great guy, great product, quick turnaround time). http://www.ubgholsters.com/Guns.html

I'm 6'4", 270 lbs, trying to get it down some.

This is me with a full-size Taurus PT 24/7 PRO 9mm in an el cheapo Uncle Mike's IWB rig, which has done just fine for me so far. Also, in cooler weather (not often here in Myrtle Beach) I can throw on a coat and wear my Fobus holster, which I've modified.

As you can see, I took off the belt loop attachment (or paddle, if that's what you have) and thread my belt through the attachment plate and holster body... it's even more secure than standard, and rides a lot closer to my body.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm of that generation that likes to wear their pants slightly off their hips. As they say in China, So-Su-Mi !!!

What holster?

RTFM, It's just a cheap $10 polyester/synthetic fabric holster with a spring-metal clip I got from Scheel's All Sports on a whim (because the OWB I had at the time didn't work too well for easy concealment*). Having just run to the bathroom to check what it is exactly, I can't tell you a brand because it doesn't have any labels on it (I think I cut it off).

*I also have an OWB Don Hume jit53 (iirc, and made of leather) which I'll wear on occasion when I don't care if I print, or if it's cold. Usually on my strong-side hip.

I'm 5'10" with a Dairy Queen belly (228 lbs). Forget the beer, I'll have a Blizzard, please. I can't stand anything IWB. For the life of me, I don't see how guys can wear those groin bags. I would be in misery. When I can cover OWB with an untucked shirt, I wear a Fobus paddle back holster for the many handguns I own. When I cannot cover with a shirt or suit jacket, I carry a S&W 442 .38 without a holster in my front pants pocket OR in a Fobus ankle holster. The Fobus ankle holster is the most comfortable ankle holster I've ever owned. It is well-padded and fits perfectly on the medial side of my ankle. Ninety-percent of the time, I carry two guns when I can cover OWB with a shirt; one OWB, one ankle.

For a big guy, the 442 Airweight has been a terrific choice for me. The shrouded hammer lets me stash it anywhere I have room on my person without worrying about it snagging and it is VERY lightweight. I highly suggest you consider the 442 or 642 for the times you're in a concealment crunch. I chose the 442 over the 642 for its black, less visually obvious finish.

Also, if you wear jeans a great deal, I suggest buying painter's pants, like Carhartt; you know, the ones with the leg pockets down on the thigh and a hammer loop. I don't like the big pockets on cargo pants. They're for teenagers IMO. Carhartts have several leg pockets which can be used for pens, your eyeglass tube, knives, cell phone, etc. I have grown to love these jeans for "storage purposes" and overall comfort. The leg bottoms are also big enough to totally conceal my 442 in its ankle holster.

sheesh...sounds like some guys need to hit the gym or stop eating or else there will be no retreating from danger in any form other than waddling away lol :uhoh:

For about two thirds of my life I was pretty thin. Not so anymore, at least around the middle. Until I carried I wore clothes that were slimming, but now I usually get things one size larger than I need. Also, I have a insulated sweat jacket that I wear all the time (always cold) that's one size too large but still comfortable, that keeps me warm and will conceal just about anything.

So I usually carry all of this, and I find it much easier to do with cargo pants/shorts.

The only way IWB is comfortable for me is to get jeans an inch or two more in the waist than I need. The G19 conceals easily for half the year. When it's warmer, I've started to think about getting a subcompact (P3AT, etc).

Well rather than buy new pants (poor college student), I opted to place my IWB holster in an area that naturally has the extra room.
