How do you carry concealed in t-shirt weather?

t-shirt weather ccw

If it's strictly a t shirt- front right pocket of 5-11 short or pant ( new Woolrich Elite line looks promising too)in Andrews Pocket holster with Colt P9.
If it needs to be a little less casual- you can go the same way or tucked t-shirt and tucked and bloused shirt over Andrews MacDaniel IWB holster with Colt P9 or 1911.

Yaknow, it just didn't occur to me that you could wear a t-shirt untucked... and wearing an undershirt with an untucked button-up shirt would even be considered fashionable around here

Also, carrying the gun in my pocket is something else I didn't think of. So they make special holsters that go in the pockets, or does the gun just kinda hang out in there? I assume you don't keep your car keys and loose change in that pocket, of course?

The simple answer is a "pocket gun". Any of the small, lightweight guns are perfect for the warm weather, neatly dressed look. NAA, Seecamp, Keltec, etc. are made for the ultra discrete carry.

Galco make the Sky-ops, but as with any belt holster, you need a belt. Something you may want to do without in really hot weather. Also many of the "deep cover" holsters are kind of hard to develope a quick draw.

My advice is check out the many pocket carry options available. One gun may not be suitable for all occations. Adapt, modify, and change to the need.

Personally I use three different guns depending on the situation, but most of the time my LWS 32 keeps me company in a pocket or OWB.

Yep, they make pocket holsters designed to hold the pistol so that it is always the same direction in your pocket, and to smooth the outline so it doesn't look like a gun if it does print.

A double action revolver is probably safe in your (otherwise empty!) pocket without a holster, but you do have issues like lint to contend with even then, so it's generally better to get a holster if you can.

Pocket carry

Always in a pocket holster and never anything else in that same pocket!
I'm sure someone will attach the photos of the results of a set of keys slipping through the trigger guard of a pocket carried pistol. Upon retrieval of the keys the pistol went off in his pocket. A pocket holster will shield that trigger from any snags from inside or outside the pocket.

All of these suggestions are great. :)

My solution is this... first, a 642 in my front pants pocket. Always.

Second, I generally have a Colt Commander carried IWB. Good, thick belt is a must. T-shirt untucked to cover that. If it's a situation where more class is called for, t-shirt tucked in and a buttondown shirt untucked over that should carry the day.

If I have to be any fancier than that, it's probably an event I wouldn't enjoy... LOL! :p

Shoot-me-first vest. Now that I'm married, I care not for fashion (not that I did at all before then, but I digress . . . )

I have a photographer's vest that has hidden cross-draw pockets, perfect for full-frame. I also have a IWB Blade-Tec, usually worn with an untucked T-shirt, sports jersey, or a loose long-sleeved shirt unbuttoned (not dress shirt, but the very casual types). Obviously the last one can't be done on the really hot days. The vest however is surprisingly cool, despite an extra layer.

I have a photographer's vest that I wear in hot weather...see my location. 95 degrees means it's cooling off!

I also use Hawaiian style shirts over t shirts. Goes well with shorts. Cooler weather I wear a Cabela's safari jacket over whatever.

Full size 1911 in Galco OWB on right hip. Double magazine pouch on left hip.
Keltec P3AT only in right front pocket. Instructor type belt. Keys in a carabiner hanging from the buckle.

Occasionally, I'll carry a Kahr P9 behind my right hip along with the Springfield 1911. Mainly just to check out printing and such-no problem.

I've never seen an ankle rig that I would use for primary carry. Even before I had balance problems due to health.

I carry a S&W K-frame revolver with a 3" barrel in a Alessi Talon clip-on IWB holster. I carry this in the appendix carry position just forward of the right hip. This combo hides under a T-shirt. It doesn't print and is very comfortable. I do have to try to wear darker color shirts though. It does print slightly under a white T-shirt, especially if the material is sheer or thin.

Btw, I advise against SOB carry. You can suffer a spinal injury if you fall (or are knocked down) on your gun. You really don't want anything hard right on your spine like that.

Finally I accepted the fact that the IWB and OWB methods were ok, but couldn't come close to the ease and comfort of my 642. I now exclusively carry the 642, summer or winter.

Same here. Pocket carry is the most comfortable, manageable, etc. for me. The 642 is the best carry gun!!

I am a T-Shirt tucker, and use a High Noon tuckable IWB holster for a SIG P232SL. I can wear a regular size shirt and 99% of the population probably cannot tell.

The holster is horsehide and the gun is all stainless to help protect against moisture.

Ooh, photographer's vest! I could use one of those things anyways, seeing as how I do photography as a hobby (and that camera case can be a royal pain sometimes).

And now that I've been thinking about it, I suppose if all else fails I coudl just tape a gun to my belly like Jayne did on an episode of Firefly. :D

+1

You really need to check out IWB holsters strong side carry on the hip is the only way to go as far as I am concerned.

Long Shirts like Hawaii shirts, Bowling Shirts, Polo shirts un tucked.

If you must go with a tucked in T shirt then you are limited to a belly band with a small framed gun, or a fanny pack. If you do go with a fanny pack "The Man Purse" go with a multi colored one or put a bunch of pins or patches on one like mine a plain black one is a "dead" give away.

Bottom line un tucked shirt or fanny pack equals a geek / poor fashion but who cares.

You might want to check out Conceal Carry Vests as well.

Good Luck

I use an IWB holster on my hip and wear a knit shirt with an elastic band around the bottom. The band tends to keep your shirt from coming up as much and it generally produces a bulge in the material just above it. It serves for hiding a too big belly and my pistol both.

I live in Florida where it is t-shirt and shorts weather almost year round. I find that an IWB holster at my right hip (with a Sig P239) is the best form of concealed carry for me. Also I have found that a single stack pistol is best to avoid printing through the shirt.

I don't carry IWB under a T-shirt - even a colored T-shirt in a larger size will print at some time as I move about.

What's popular here in Central Texas is an untucked shirt, often one of those "fisherman's shirts" you see at sporting goods stores. Multiple overlapping pockets, cut loose so they drape well. I can carry a 1911 IWB with one of these.

Vests? Virtually unknown around here. Not in fashion, I guess.

I've moved more often to pocket carry - an S&W 340SC with Crimson Trace laser grips in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster disappears into my pocket whether I'm wearing pants or shorts, and the shirt is irrelevant. And pocket carry has an advantage in that if you think something bad may happen, you can casually stick your hand in your pocket and grab your gun. At that point, you're 1/2 second away from drawing and firing, but nobody else sees anything but a guy standing there casually with his hand in his pocket.

In T-shirt weather, OWB right side behind my hip, reload behind my left hip. Tank top under t-shirt so I won't chaffe or rust up my pistol in a long day. Polo shirts also work over a tank top.

I carry the same way. I tote a full size 1911 as well.

*EDIT - I didn't realize that it was OWB, I carry IWB in a Sparks Summer Special.

T-shirt carry

That is exactly how I usually carry. T-shirt untucked. My hoslters are also tuckable if need be.

I'm not overly concerned in most situations if someone happens to notice. But, in a few situations I do care and I have had no problems. I'm just a little more careful about letting my shirt ride up.

Edited to add: I carry IWB.

I have carried as large as a Smith and Wesson N Frame in a shoulder holster with a 6" barrel during the summer. A loud Hawaiian shirt does wonders for removing suspicions of weaponry. Normally I default to a Baby Glock or .38 Snubbie.
