BTW, thanks to the folks who are sharing pictures.

Living where I do, I appreciate that you can and do carry.

Being rather short and rather fat also I have found a S&W 642 in the right front pocket works well for me. It also makes it easy to remove in those places where I just can't carry but must go. Especially the ones with metal detectors.

^^

What if it was ONE man with SIX guns.

And teeming with souls shall it ever be"

Sorry. It was just too good to resist.

I'm glad you didn't!

I would carry that way if I was tall enough to wear a coat like that and that many holsters, helpless.

Next question tho, those that carry a Kahr in a pocket holster. Yes, those things are small guns, but how in hell do you get that in a pocket?! When I get pants that fit me right all around, there is no way I will get one of those in a pocket. At least not in jeans, maybe in some khaki's or cargo's. But ... bah .. fashion doesn't lend well to me and cargo's.

Lots of stuff to figure out about carry. The biggest issue I come to is that I want the gun some places I go and can't carry in others (like on federal military bases, Indian casinos).

I have a Kahr MK9 which is small, 9mm, and sufficient. Most of the time it's in a pocket on the side of the console in the vehicle. I wear a utility vest all the time. It's a standard part of my wardrobe. I carry a wallet, pen, keys, glasses, change pouch, in it. There's a pocket for a gun.

I also carry a portfolio with papers. There's space for a gun in it. This is an "open top" folio, ready access. It's not a "briefcase."

Even a small gun, like an NAA Guardian is a PIA in the vest pocket. The vest is lightweight. The gun is bulky, heavy, and it swings around. 9mm is even worse. In the portfolio things work nicely. I can remove a coat, vest, no bulky shirts. I'm not "wearing" the gun, but I have it with me.

But what I "do" provides me with options. Wearing the vest is a normal function for me, as is carrying a folio. It's as normal as can be for me. It might not work at all for you.

I have a Kramer IWB for the Kahr. It's a nice holster and works well under even a sweatshirt or sweater. But it won't work for a tucked in shirt without a coat or vest. That limits options for taking off the coat or vest. The folio allows removal of coats, vests, etc. And I can discretely secure the folio when I'm someplace . . . drawer in a desk, under the desk. I don't check it in at a coat check -- like at the casino.

If I leave the gun in the car, like at a casino where I can't carry, I lock it in the trunk.

I think the solution to effective carry is to develop a lot of options. I've carried -- effectively -- a sub-compact 1911 and a couple extra mags, on the belt in a pancake holster with mag pouches. But that requires a fairly heavy jacket that's not going to be removed, or a large sweater, sweatshirt. When it works, it works, but it's a pretty limited way to carry.

The NAA Guardian in a pocket holster works in a jeans hip pocket -- if you're not carrying your wallet in your hip pocket. But I stopped carrying stuff in my pants pockets when the wallet made my leg fall asleep. That's when I started wearing a vest (like a fishing vest, only "utility") or a sport coat, for a wallet, keys, glasses, and the "baggage" that I need with me.

One last thought -- these days I think it's possible to carry a small gun on the belt and have it look like a cell phone, or "multi-tool" -- Depending on what you do in life and how you dress, If you're "casual dress," a pouch is a common item on a belt. More formal dress and you have the option of a jacket and a folio. Or you can be "eclectic" like me and wear jeans, sweatshirts, light boots or jogging shoes, and have a vest full of items along with a folio because that's how I work, as a "field researcher."

Airweight snub from S&W or Taurus and a good pocket holster is all you need, my friend. Maybe not the most tactically efficient way to have a firearm at your disposal, but: 1-you'll not be without it, 2- it's a heck of a lot more comfortable than a lot of other methods (means you will actually CARRY IT), 3-it's a great option for us fat guys (doesn't poke your "love handles"), 4-you won't have to go through $1000 on holsters that you'll find don't feel/carry right for you, 5-I've NEVER had to be notified that my piece is printing/hanging out/noticeable by anyone!
For seated situations (i.e. driving) just unpocket your piece when you get seated and place where it would be easily accessable.
One thing I've done is to have a clip-on holster (cheap gun show variety) that I leave in the car. When I get in, my CCW comes out of the pocket and gets clipped on to the seatbelt in holster #2. It's right there where I would need it to be and facilitates an easy/un-noticed changeover when entering/exiting your vehicle.

Just my .02, YMMV.

Polo shirt covers a Kimber Pro CDP. Extra Mag & pepper print more than the gun. Holster is a Comp-Tac Infidel w/ a Gurkha set up. Quit comfortable even setting for long periods.

This is a full size SA 1911A1 in a Galco Concealable. I cover it w/ a vest that was a heavy cotton camo shirt w/ the sleeves removed. I am pulling the vest tight to show print is not near the problem many think it is. Put your gun on. Cover it up & leave it alone. No one will know.

I'm a heavy guy too - but there is a solution - OWB

I'm nearly 300lbs - (and on a diet b/c this weight problem is getting nuts!) - but everyday I carry a Glock 27 in a Galco Combat Master holster, and a Bianchi spare mag pouch on the other side with an extra mag. Both mags (loaded and spare) have Glock factory +capacity extenders. I also carry in my pocket a Surefire L4 and next to it a Benchmade Griptillian.

Carrying OWB really isn't a problem. My daily garment is just jeans and a polo shirt. I found the 5.11 polos are just the right length to cover up OWB carry, even being heavy like me.

I'm not wearing Hawaiian shirts or anything like that.... just jeans and a polo.... which is what I wore before I ever started carrying. Only difference now is that the polo is untucked whereas before it was tucked in. Doesn't bother me though.

I unfortunately don't have a photo, but I can assure you wit this set-up, you can't tell I'm armed. I look totally normal.

No need to feel limited because of your weight. Holster makers and gun-makers have solved that problem for you. Just throw in the right clothes, and you're fine.... and by "right clothes" I'm not even talking anything exotic.

Good luck.

ps: also for reference, I'm 5' 11" - not short, not tall... just average

Thanks!!

That was great!! ROFL. Glad I got to enjoy it before it was deleted. I guess this board is "G" rated. Oh well.....

I should note that those are some fairly obsessively baggy pants. My normal pants don't look that baggy, and in fact those pants don't look that 'bunched and wrinkly' in real life. Though, as I can wear a size 32" waist (w/o 'gear'), I tend to need a little baggy to get away with concealed (and its more comfortable anyway, so.)

Generally, I'll keep most of the 'extras' either in my jacket pockets, or not carry it (like the notebook). Certain things travel with me all the time, however. :D

EDIT Uh I should've added that I carry at about 5 or 4:30 on my belt. Sorry it's not more visible; I thought that was the point. :)

I have carried a Kahr PM9 for quite a while in a pocket holster.

It's a great gun - always reliable. Jean carry is fine as long as they are relaxed-fit Levi's like 550s. 501s are too tight.

Business dress pants with pleated fronts are best.

The best holster that I found is a Mika pocket holster.

Until I get a good IWB holster for my USPf .45, I carry it Mexican-style (no holster) with no problems, even while sitting. I wish I had pictures to demonstrate it like everyone else does theirs. Maybe later.

full size 1911 @ 5:30-6 o'clock in an unknown IWB holster with an extra mag pouch built in to it. usually untucked shirt or jacket.

6'4" and 165 lbs means that all clothes kinda hang off me and i can make even the full size service autos disappear.

Hmm. Really? I'm 6'2" and about the same weight, with a long torso (meaning I have to buy oversized shirts or pay like $80 a shirt). I don't really have that problem; in fact, I feel like i've got the opposite problem: bulges are a bit more obvious. But then I'm probably just being paranoid. I've not been 'made' yet, at least, and I've carried daily for the last 3 years. :)

I'll start off saying that for one, I just took these pics with my cell phone in the bathroom at work... so sorry about the scenery!

Secondly, I live in Florida, warm and you cannot be wearing coats all the time... most you get is a light coat... and that's when it's in the 60's and only through winter.

My sidearm is an XD45, Service model... with a Desantis IWB holster.

There ya go...

Not wanting to start a argument, but I would recommend that you do not get a Kahr PM-9

My pm9 has been ultra reliable, even as it was in the 200 rds break-in period Kahr stated clearly this gun needs to work reliably most of the time. Mine has only gotten smoother the more I shoot it, now with 400+ rds through it.

It's hot out here most of the year. So, I've just changed out to the G26 with +2 baseplate in an OWB belt slide when working the shop at the 3 O'clock position with a spare g17 with a +2 baseplate in the left rear pocket of the dungarees. Sometimes the G26 goes into the right rear jeans pocket as well in a pocket holster.

When not working the shop, I carry the PM9 in the right rear pocket in a pocket holster with the exta mag in the left rear pocket.

In the cooler weather, it's the g17 in the same belt slide and the same g17+2 baseplate in the left rear pocket.

I don't wear tucked in shirts but once or twice a year, so the T shirts hide all the carry guns, no matter where they are placed in the pockets or on the belt.

I just had Garrity Leather in Phoenix make an OWB crossdraw for the G26 which I wear ocassionally as well. When I wear that one, the T-shirt is lifted up and tucked behind the gun so the gun is open carry. It's easy enough to pull the shirt over the gun again if more discreet carry is needed at any time.

Cell phone 9 O'clock on the belt, Bowie knife behind it with tip of sheath tucked into left rear pocket. Money clip, chapstick and SA hiker folder in the left front pocket always. Right front carries bic lighter, and eye drops only.

I don't carry a wallet on my person at any time.

I work in surgical scrubs, so I am often limited to a SmartCarry holster. It actually helps hold the scrub pants up. Pistol is a Colt Compact, modified to suit my taste.

When out and about, I use a IWB holster, much like a summer special, made by a leather craftsman near Clark's, or a Don Hume JIT on a Beltman belt at 4:00 underneath a sportscoat. I've actually built a collection of sportscoats now that I have gotten older, and I find them to be an ideal cover garment. Pistol here is a Government Model in several different holsters.

Maybe this will help - get a pocket pistol and carry all that other stuff in a portfolio or camera bag, fatpak, plastic bag from Borders book store, whatever.

Seriously, if you are buying gas you can leave the bag of other stuff (except maybe cash & ID) on the floor of your car but you will still have the pocket pistol with you.

Other than that the pants with the hidden elestic at the side so they give an extra couple inches would work good with the smartcarry.

I have the extra inner tube (belly) and short waist so nothing on my waist feels right not even the cell phone - a camera bag is good for that - often hidden in a plastic bag because camera bag screams steal me.
