USPf .45 - no holster. I wear all of my pants low on my hips (I prefer low-rise), and coordinate my waist size to ensure a perfect fit. All of my slacks's inner waistband areas have rubber gripping material sewn into them to prevent the shirt from hiking up (most all of Express's slacks have it). I've found that it also helps to keep weapon-retention. That combined with the utter thickness of the fullsize USP, this has become my method of carry. At least until I can get around to ordering one of those nifty IWB C-Tac holsters.

Hey lurkersince03, I notice that in the second picture the trigger of your USP is fully exposed. Do you not see that as a danger? I don't mean to question the way you carry your weapon. (even though that's what I'm doing) Everyone needs to feel comfortable with the way they carry, but I hope that you pay special attention to the inherent dangers of mexican carry.

Never bothered me at all.

Whenever I draw, it's with the index finger out over or around the trigger guard just like I would do with a holster that covers the trigger (note my index/trigger finger in the first picture). As well, I keep it cocked and locked -- the safety always engaged. And I don't go running through the brush or thicket so a twig/snagginggoblin could pull the trigger for me at just the proper angle (provided said twig/snagginggoblin gets past whatever jacket or concealing garment I'm wearing for the day. Hey, I concede it could happen, but that's what the safety's for -- and when you think about it, that's what the trigger guard is for as well). I just don't have a psychosis regarding it. Never gave a second or even first thought about it, either, until you just mentioned it. So short answer is, no, I've never seen it as a danger and still don't.

I should also note that the placement of the weapon isn't uniform each and every time. Sometimes it gets stuffed down further so that the trigger guard gets covered. Sometimes I prefer to keep it at a more severe cant like that to where the trigger is exposed. Depends on my mood. Hope that helps. :)

Holsters are a good idea

Holsters have a lot of pluses in concealed carry. They:

  • keep the pistol in one place for a consistent draw
  • protect the gun from accidental loss or dropping
  • protect the gun from sweat
  • protect the wearer from the gun's corners and edges
  • protect the wearer's clothes from abrasion and oil
  • can cover the trigger for added safety
  • can also prevent cylinder rotation or the swiping off of safeties
  • aid concealment, in union with a good belt
Respectfully,
Dirty Bob

No particular reason other than I just haven't gotten around to it, yet. I'm not exactly a newbie to the general idealogies supporting holsters and sidearm retention, etc. I have several holsters for the SA 1911 (that I'll still carry once in a while). :)

I second the above post. Although I don't have it yet (they're a little behind schedule) I have ordered a Crossbreed SuperTuck, and from what I have read, it is more or less perfect for keeping your carry piece comfortably separating from flub, while staying perfectly concealed. They're not too badly priced in comparison to other leather holsters, and seem to have the idea down right.
I carry my CZ75B full size in a cheapo uncle mikes IWB, and it sure can be darn uncomfortable at times, especially while sitting. This is why I opt for OWB, but even then it's not so comfortable. I think the main reason for this is because I wear my pants lower than most people, since I have a very long torso in comparison to my legs.
When I get my CrossBreed I would be happy to let you know how it goes.
Well it's been a while and I now have my CrossBreed Supertuck, and it's pretty much exactly what it was all choked up to be. I've been carrying it on me for a few weeks now, and not only is it super comfortable, it conceals so well that I wear it to work all the time, even though I've never discussed with management or anyone else whether that would be acceptable or not. Tucking a shirt in with the holster on is a little more difficult than without it, as one would expect, but it is definately worth it.

I'm so glad the spurred hammer and beavertail don't poke my spare tire anymore! So relieved! Now I just have to get one for my XD45.

By the way, I carry at 3oclock, sorry no pictures right now.

Pocket carry

For 5 years I have carried a glock 27 in a leather pocket holster. For my blue jeans I had a seamstress lethen the front pockets by 2-3 inches. Other pants don't need alteration. For my tall slim stature (6'5", 210lbs) this works well. Ankle holster, IWB holster, pager pal holsters are in a drawer. Too uncomfortable for daily use. I know their is an issue with presentation from a seated position. But I balance that with the fact I always have it with me when I leave the house.

I too carry a lot with me: two sets of keys, wallet, second mag, palm pilot.

Hope this helps.

I carry in Cargo Pocket Pants or Cargo Pocket Pants for pictures see my website at http://www.handgunholsters.net Not the easiest way to carry as I have to modify the pockets on the pants and shorts, but I think it conceals well, is comfortable, is fast to draw and works well when driving a car or seated.

I hate IWB. I bicycle all the time, and am constantly changing from street to work clothes and back during the day. IWB not only sticks out like sore thumb and irritates me on the bike, it makes things tricky when shifting from one outfit to the other. Instead I go with a shoulder rig, usually a Galco SBII with a vertical holster. This is easy to keep out of the way and far more reliable than an IWB. In my experience, IWB's work best if you're wearing one tight pair of jeans or slacks all day with a strong tight belt and you're not going to be doing too much physical activity with them on. I found such arrangements to be very painful to the old lumbar over time. My rule now is to keep my mid section entirely un-encumbered. No LBP at all, though by rights I ought to have a ton of it given the life I've led.

These days, everyone thinks you have to carry IWB because it's said to be faster. I haven't found that to be the case. In fact when I have packed IWB the stupid grip invariably gets tagled with my covering shirt.

I wear a sports coat every day all day, so I carry two Glock 19s - one 5:00 and one at 7:00. The sports coat would hide two bazookas... I'll usually exchange that for a hawaiian shirt or similar cover when going casual. That works down here in the deep south. If I need to go lighter, I lose the left gun and go with an untucked t-shirt. If I need to go really light, I lose the other Glock and carry a USPc .45 in a Smartcarry rig.

Concealed carry is *really* easy, but you have to discover what works for you. In all my years of carrying, nobody has ever noticed unless I made a mistake and allowed the weapon to be uncovered. You could stick an AK47 in your Speedo, walk down the beach, and 99% of people wouldn't notice a thing...which is pretty sad if you think about it...

My home made rig

I'll hopefully get some pics of me wearing my rig sometime soon.

I just recently finished this holster. I made it myself because I couldn't find one on the market that fit a 4" 1911 with a rail. It works awesome!!

The centerline works GREAT.

Either in the Backup Gun configuration or the at work polo shirt configuration.

No CHL yet but I have been carrying around the house. I'm not short but I am on the...husky side. About 6 even and right around 240. I've been finding that 4 o'clock IWB hasn't worked out to bad for me in an el cheapo holster and would expect a better one to be even better.

Once thing I have found is that if I wear a tucked a style undershirt it makes for a much more comfortable carry. And since they tend to be pretty light not to uncomfortable in the heat.

5.11 jeans inside out

As promised long ago

5.11 jeans inside out with a Glock 26 and two Glock 1 mags.

Nope. Not anymore. Everyone has jitters their first time carrying that everyone around them will know they have a < GASP> gun. They get over it eventually.

Just open carry and those jitters will go away pretty quickly. :) Actually, even though I open carry for the most part because of the comfortability issue, I am currently exploring ccw holster options. IWB always felt very uncomfortable to me. I am in the same boat as the OP, short and fat (although I am in the process of losing that weight).

Fat boy here and I carry a KT P32 with a belt clip attatched to the gun itself, no holster. IWB, light and thin. After 10 years of carry it's the only way to go for a wide body as far as everyday carry that you pretty much forget is there... It's so thin, sometimes I just slip it behind my wallet though...

I still keep my Glock 22 around with a custom IWB holster for those serious times though; Carrying lots of cash, meeting an unknown to look at/ purchase a gun, etc. It's a special occasion gun. I can't wear it everyday, too cumbersome, heavy, thick, long, etc...

You know igpoobah there are a lot of other options between the Glock22 and the KT P32. Its not either or.

I also have a 27, but found it still too heavy and wide for all the time carry. Yeah, I went pretty extreme with the P32, but I just wasn't carrying a lot until I made that move. Now I carry all the time and it doesn't bother me anymore...

When outside work, I like to carry owb with a long shirt such as I am wearing in these photos.

While at work I wear baggy chefs pants with elastic waist band and draw string.
No belt. This makes an owb impossible. Pockets are so loose that anything in them sways around, so pockect carry is out of the question.

So far this has been the best answer.

This is the Desantis IWB "tuck this" Holster.
The Kevlar type material is rather abrasive to the skin.

So using some rubber cement and some very soft material, I came up with a combination that works quite well, and I often forget it's there.
