When ever I see specs for semi-auto handguns they always say the capacity is 10+1, 12+1, 14+1, etc... Do you ever carry with a full magazine plus one round in the chamber?

I dont everyday carry since I dont have my CWP but when there is a dangerous situation, one goes in the pipe and gun is decocked.

I carry my Para with 13 +1, my colt and UC with a full mag +1. I dont really carry XD but I know I will carry that +1 also. Shotgun is Plus one right now on the side of my bed ( I really want the thing that Denzel Washington has in Training Day with his shotgun under the bed:D) My rifle is not loaded right now and in a case. However, if I went on the offensive with it, it would be +1 ( I fear over penetration:()
ps.I carry all day every day where it is legal which is just about everywhere i go

Cocked and Locked....

if i go with a gun all i want to do is cock the hammer and shoot IN an emergency every second counts

I've always been of the opinion that having to rack the slide in a defensive situation was more of a liability than just leaving the thing holstered. +1 for me.

Most of the time I don't carry +1. At work we are required to check guns at the front gate. We have lock boxes, they keep the gun, I keep the key. For safety I always unload my pistol before putting it in the box and handing it over so +1 is kind of impractical.

always chamber one and then top off the mag.

if i have to unload, the mag goes in the lockbox first, the chambered round is ejected and placed atop the mag

The last thing I want to worry about in a defending my life scenario is chambering a round! I can't see carrying any other way.

Unless I'm mistaken, the thread is concerned with weather you "top off" as opposed to weather you carry with a round chambered. One can load up a mag, rack the slide, and holster without topping off the mag.

I carry all weapons to their intended capacity. For a modern pistol (revolver or auto) that means fill all cylinders/full mag plus one in the chamber as the case may be.

Thank you!

Folks, this thread is asking whether you load your magazines to maximum capacity, lock and load your pistol, and then remove the magazine to replace the one (the "+1" in the thread title) that just went into the chamber.

Nothing at all to do with 'do you carry with one in the chamber".

Yes, I do.

That is correct. I was wondering if other people do like I do. I insert a magazine, chamber a round, remove my magazine, top off the magazine, re-insert the magazine. Now my Para Ordnance 14.45 now is carrying 15 rounds (14+1).

I know there are many gun gurus out there that always download their mags by 1 round, including their reloads, but I pretty much always top off.

Yup, I "+1" every semi-auto I carry defensively. I've never heard anyone offer a good reason not to.
While it may not seem so important with a double-stack, it makes a huge difference in small, single-stack pistols like my Rohrbaugh R9S Stealth which holds just 6 rounds in the mag. Turning it into a 7 round pistol by going +1 is a no brainer.

Top off mag?

In U.S.Army M. P. as of 1983/84 7 round Cap. Mags were to be loaded with 5 rounds. I don't remember if I was to have one in the pipe, if memory serves me right it was5+1 cocked and locked + 2/ 5 round Mags.

the reason was positive feed? Any feedback?

everyday no. if I feel uncomfortable and have a bad feeling yes. But really if 16 won't do it whats 17 gonna do? I do carry a spare mag which makes it 32 total but thats just because the holster I have has a built in mag pouch. I don't have a ccl yet so this is in the truck along with a 12ga mossberg. Realistically I don't see using more than 5 or 6 rounds probably less.
