I'm curious to see what the proportion of THR owns firearms, and I don't think this is an entirely stupid question. Some people might live in places where guns are forbidden. Others might be under the legal age.

Feel free to explain your answer.

None, guns are dangerous = none of your business.

Why do folks here have to ask such personal stuff?

Gezzer, I'm with you.... I thought this High Road Board was a talk group about Scottish Vacations.... Now after over 600 posts I realize it's about dangerous stuff, Guns.... Boy if Mayor Daley finds out, I'm in hot water...:D

Surprisinigly, I don't find this to be such a strange question. There have been several times that a poster has been posting on this or another gun board for months and posted dozens of messages advising people on firearm selection, ammo choices, carrying techniques, shooting tips, etc. Then suddenly, out of the blue they post, "Today I went shooting for the first time" or "I just bought my first gun, I can't wait to go finally shooting for real!" or "Well, I just put another 50 through my pistol, bringing me up to 200 rounds fired total!"

It's not only on gun boards. My father makes knives and lurks on a few knife forums. He says that he's seen more than a few posters give out months of advice and then post their newly completed first knife.

Just got 2 today to go with the others I own.

correct 80+% IHC M1 Garand and a 80+% Mk1 Inglis :D

Jorg,
That's because those people read the posts and go with the masses like it's written in stone. How many times have you heard "You must have at least a 9mm for SD" or "You are going to die unless you are carrying a .45 Auto because a big bullet makes a big hole!"

Far too many posts on forums are like that, unfortunately all they are doing is recycling what they hear without first hand knowledge. They write what most other people right because they want to sound smart but in the end, they are only Lemmings. I quickly found this out when I first came to these boards.

Right now I think I'm down to only 10, but that could well change if I stumble across something that tickles my fancy. A NAA mini-revolver is the first one that comes to mind, just for the heck of it.

Hmmm...in light of PA HB760 (gun registration)...What guns? Guns kill, I wouldn't own any. Oh, that uneven spot in the lawn--huh, I just noticed that, too... ;)

I currently own 8 firearms, a small collection by many standards, but my budget usually forces me to be pretty decisive about what weapons I choose to own. 2 of the 7 were inheritance pieces. My next purchase is a new 30.06 as I'd like to retire my old savage that was passed down from my grand father. Its still a fine weapon, but the scratches to the finish now start to physically hurt me, hehe. I have 3 pistols, 2 for carry, one for hunting. A full size 1911 auto when visability is not a factor or is a plus and an XD compact for conceal work. Also have a snubby I use for carrying around the woods cause its unobtrusive
