Do you really need another 9mm striker-fired pistol if you have a Sig P320?
Or if you have a S&W 642 do you need another J frame?
How about if there’s a 9mm Beretta 92FX, Walther P1, and a Sig 210A in the safe, do you need another full-size 9?
For carry, how many more pistols are necessary after a Sig 250 subcompact, Beretta PX4compact, S&W 3914, 6906, CS9, and Shield EZ in 9mm?
Or, for bigger bullet carry, say in 40 & 45, do you need another if there’s a CS45, 4513, and .40 SW99 subcompact handy to conceal?
After a Smith 28-2 how many more .357s are necessary? (Okay, I confess to a Dan Wesson/HiStandard MarkII as well)?
Or in 38 special, is a S&W 15-2 and WWII Victory enough (my eldest made off with my Model 10)?
If you have a Smith 625, any more .45 wheel guns on the I-want list? (Another confession: a 1917 Colt .45 is in the safe. It just sorta appeared.)
And for personal protection is a .44 mag really needed if there’s a .357 (or two) handy?
(In smaller calibers, is a Beretta .32acp M81 Cheetah and a PP clone; .380 EZ and Beretta 85F; and 38S&W Terrier and .38/200 BSR enough?)
Oh, and for .22, a Ruger MK IV and Sig conversion for my P220 in .45 seems to be more than enough. No?
Okay, my dilemma is that the frugal good sense inculcated by my Depression-era parents is now getting in the way of my gun buying mania. I can’t see adding something that essentially duplicates a good gun I already own. (I ain’t buying an FEG when I already have a Browning HP.)
Full disclosure: I got hooked on Smith and Wesson 1st – 3rd Gen pistols and have a whole bunch of them in 9, 40, and 45, so I’m no stranger to “collecting” and having them not necessarily for practical use but for my own satisfaction.
But every time I think it would be neat to own a CZ75, or PPQ, or SD9VE or Ruger 345 or SAR B6, or Daewoo DP51, or Sig P2022, or…well, you get the idea. I keep saying, “I’ve got a perfectly fine Sig 320, what on earth do I need a Glock for? Or a .40 Beretta/HK/Ruger would be neat, but it’s pretty much the same as the S&W4006TSW CHP in my bedside night table.
This ramble is apropos of nothing, but I just spent an hour pouring over gunbroker and couldn’t find anything I wanted that was priced reasonably. (And yeah, sure, I want a Smith 4506, but spending $1,200++ is out of my budget now that I hang out at the mail box waiting for my social security check. (Actually, it’s direct deposit.)
So I know “it’s only money,” “there’s no pockets in a shroud,” and “It’s my hobby and sort of an investment” are all good rationalizations. But so far, not enough for me to hit the bid button on gunbroker.
If ya got this far, thanks for sticking with it; hope you don’t feel it was a waste time.
