while watching pinocchio (i hadn't seen it for at least 30 years) with my daughter, it came to my attention that even kid cartoons from fifty years ago promoted the right to bear arms.

near the begining of the movie where pinocchio comes to life, he scares geppetto in the middle of the night. what does geppetto do? he reaches under his pillow and pulls out a pistol!!!

my question to you is how could we (americans) screw up so badly in the last fifty years that we have caused ourselves to question if it is our right to protect ourselves by bearing firearms? at that time it was common enough to be in a disney flick. i don't see disney having the guts to try that now, but why not?

please don't make this a liberal or special interest group bashing party, i am interested in the actual progression of events (kennedy, ml king assasinations?) that may have changed the political attitude.

John Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald (not famous, maybe not even guilty, but it was in your face), Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X, John Lennon, Ronald Regan, Pope John Paul II...

These were all national, prominent figures that were victims (or near-victims) of attackers using guns. Combine that with the severe crime rate most large cities saw in the 70s and the urbanization already mentioned, and you have a good catalyst for a pro-gun control society.

"urbanization + feminization + collectivism = general pu$$ification of society"

HA HA HA, that should be the platform for our Pinko-Commie, leftist, bleeding-heart, opponents!

Sorry to the OP for the first two responses being so off base and completely against what you had asked people not to do in this thread, but I am still laughing at 30 cal Slob's comment!

I'm not sure where it all went wrong, but my guess would be a combo of the MEDIA (liberal views from the majority of networks besides Fox),the war on drugs/war on gangs, school shootings, liberal/feminist gun control groups, and an uneducated/uninformed, narrow minded public who rejects and fears that which they don't know!

my children have the dubious honor of bearing witness to the fall of a formally great society. liberalism does not work-only a wealthy society can afford it and since the 70's this social parasite has been slowly killing the host.

+1 to 30 cal

We have become a nation of wimps. after dealing with 'Girly Men' I have to head home and watch a movie like '300'. Or society is on a downward spiral.

There's nothing feminine about being helpless. Females (especially those with children to protect) are historically far more ferocious defenders than males in the same situation.

If I woke up and Roberto Benigni was stalking around dressed like he was in that horrific film, I'd shoot!

Ah... you feel effeminized so you go watch a movie about preening muscle men?

It is part and parcel of the social engineering we have been enduring for the last 40+ years. We see it every day in PC nonsense. in "zero tolerance" policies and the general pacification of society. When a child (usually male) acts out in school, primarily (imho)due to boredom, the first move is to medicate them and call it ADHD or some other buzzword that substitutes for the teacher being worthless.

Heaven forbid the failing student be expected to actually do his/her school work, must be due to some social inequity caused by evil white males. No way could it be thier own darn fault.

We also see the attempt at eliminating gender differences in society and I don't by gawd care how un-PC it is but Men are Men and Women are Women and thier most certainly is a difference and thank what ever supreme being there may be for that difference.

All the crud about violence not solving anything is just so much claptrap, tell that to ToJo and Hitler, violence sure enough settled that. Ask the people in turn of the century Coffeyville, Kansas and 1876 Northfield, Minn. if violence ever solved anything.

If more people refused to be a victim and defended themselves with up to and including deadly force I have no doubt that we would see a reduction in violent crime if for no other reason there would be fewer violent criminals surviving the attacks they perpetrate on others.

Okay, so here's my somewhat trite analysis:

"When modes of music change, the fundamental mores of the state change with them." -Damon the Athenian, instructor of Pericles.

It's all just Rock 'n' Roll: "...change the world, rearrange the world...", "...don't go along with the program jus' 'cause ever'body say its right...", "...imagine all the people living life at peace...", "...soldiers are shooting us down...", "...put a flower in your hair...you'll find gentle people there...", "...give peace a chance...". Not that I am agin RnR, it's the soundtrack of my life, but I think the many pacifist, nihilist and socialist messages contained in many of the hits played a larger role than generally acknowledged in the general spine-ectomy of the boomer generation.

(I have to add that I think the "Silent Majority" of the "Greatest Generation" also dropped the ball by failing to recognize the broad assault on their core beliefs by those in the media, entertainment and the government who wanted to remake society along socialist lines until things began to fall apart.)

But ya know, that's all water under the bridge -this is now. I want to focus on regaining some of the good things lost!

Fifty years ago, Disney Studios was owned by its founder, Walt Disney. Walt Disney was a conservative, patriotic American who actually believed in the U.S. Constitution.

Today, Disney Studios is owned by multiple stockholders and completely controlled by extreme leftists who hate, loathe, and despise the U.S. Constitution.

There is a very large class in Hollywood of whom I long ago created an apt phrase... the MegaMillionaire Marxists and Billionaire Bolsheviks.

There you have it.

What Slob said. And Hollywood is full of antis and has a large poplace to which they can spew their ilks upon.

And news reporters can't (or don't, whichever) distinguish between PEOPLE and THINGS.

Examples:
Any time you hear about a car chase or traffic accident, reporters will say something like "An SUV crashed into a street light," or "a small compact car was trying to get away from police."

Um. Well, no. The DRIVERs did all that. Not the cars -- I've never seen a car drive itself into a tree or try to make a getaway.

Or: "Man in the ghetto was shot and killed by a .357 Magnum."

Um. No again. One man was shot and killed by another man. Guns don't kill people; people kill people.

This is how the media puts THINGS into light and try to make them as evil rather than acknowledge that it is some people in the USA that are deranged and evil.

It's not our fault for using them for good or bad. It's the media that spreads the word incorrectly.

They also provided irrefutable evidence that bird shot should never be used in the Home Defense/ Self Defense role.

Before you get too worked up about how great Walt was, remember it was his influence that helped make people think hunting was evil and animals are children in fur suits.

Well, I'm a feminist, queer, leftist dude with a large number of transgender friends. The way I see it, these are all good reasons to own and train with firearms.

But y'all feel free to believe whatever makes you feel better :neener:

The nation is now being run by minorities and I'm not talking the racial or ethnic kind. There's a group of folks in this country, that while not in the majority, are very vociferous and force on us their wussie way of living whether we like it or not.

OK, the thread is really going off the deep end. Unless you're living off grid, using a honey bucket AND hunting for your dinner or starving, then you're living a wussified, femme way of life. Going home to watch "300" is not macho. Going home through a subzero blizzard with a team of dogs bringing the dinner you just shot and having to warm your cabin with wood is muy macho. And I know some women who do just that. Most of the tough talking net commandos out there would fall to pieces without AC power or central heating.

And all the while we were told this country's direction is based on majority rule but it seems that the $$$$ that these "minorities" dump in to the wussie way has precedence even over the majority. The SILENT majority. It is past time the silence should be broken.

The children of the 60s are the lawmakers of today. Many of the "hippies" got their start in the 60s as teens. They saw everything their parents stood for as wrong. And their parents fought WWII and were now gearing up with a military standoff will the USSR. Non violence was a way to attack the heart of the old order of adults. Their dads all owned guns, and they hated them for it. And now that these hippies are grown up and in control, they are still reverting back to the ideology they had in their youth. The hippie movement failed. And now that they have power, they want to bring back it's ideals and force it to succeed. Social engineering, the redefinition of genders, the marginalization of the family unit, the antagonism towards business, and yes, the desire to force pacifism on society are all rooted in the same failed ideology of the 1960s teenagers.
