The California Custom Knife Show is upcoming which brings to mind the history and locations the show has been at. The hotels have had mixed views on the "type" of people that are coming in. This also has translated that this type resembles the gun crowd too. The show was at a very nice location in Costa Mesa for some years until the hotel was bought out by a bigger company, they felt the knife show was not a client they were pleased with.

We know many people who carry and use these as tools in their daily life. The use of any tool in the hands of some types can have bad results. We have all heard those arguments too. A very sad state that negative use carries through the community where all is viewed poorly. SMH at the laws implemented.

I understand there are nuances to what everyone is saying, and am not addressing anyone in particular regarding my post... :)

I am always a little uncomfortable when being a "tool" becomes the justification for carrying a knife. We then get into such gray areas as having to show I.D. to the constabulary that you're an electrician or craftsman or fisherman or whatever, and therefore "approved" by the State to carry such an item...

These are what tend to be my everyday carry...

Top is the Wenger Esquire, which accomplishes about 99% of my cutting needs (plus the wife is ALWAYS hitting me up for the toothpick! o_O ).

Middle is a ceramic Boker which gets used at instances like being at a winery, and having a brick of hard cheddar or Gouda which is impossible to cut with the plastic "knife" they graciously provide...

The bottom is a Spyderco Superhawk which I've carried for a dozen-plus years (can't recall now) for when the other two "won't do," and probably has only been used a couple of times to test-shave some arm-hairs. I would be extremely reticent to have some authoritarian State tell me I can't carry that knife based on the collective propensities of groups of people with whom I would never willingly associate or interact. :uhoh:

You took issue with the part highlighted in red, and quoted same in post #54.
Correct. The question that b0ned0me responded to was: "How does carrying a knife make you become the victim of a crime?". He responded to it by saying that carrying a knife and being a criminal and hanging around with criminals makes you more likely to be the victim of crime.

Let's say I ask someone: "How does wearing a plaid shirt make me more prone to heart disease?" and someone responds that "Wearing a plaid shirt and smoking and being inactive makes a person prone to heart disease." That's a correct answer, but it's not an answer to the question, it's an answer to some other question, or, perhaps, it's an implausible stretch to try to defend an indefensible position.

I get that there's more background behind the official statement than just what meets the eye, but that doesn't make the statements in it any less ludicrous. In fact, if anything, leaving the context out makes them even more ludicrous...

Criminalizing a possession rather than a behavior thrills lawyers and enables criminals.
Confusion erupts concerning the actual goal of the effort. Soon, Granny can't peel an apple in public but any thug can carry a cane-cutter because some lawyer pointed out to a judge that it has a blunt tip.
That way leads to insanity.

A long time ago, I started looking for a good chef's knife. I saw that a number of knives had weird rounded ends. Much later, I found out these were nanny-state knives. They are seriously pushing them in England. Using a knife like that would feel a lot like wearing a diaper.

Is a screwdriver a weapon in England? It might be possible to convince a judge you just like having tools handy.

You mean assault screwdrivers! They typically have a black assault-type handle and a fully semi-automatic ratcheting system. The real bad ones carry different stabbing tips of varying calibers and styles...I mean HOW SICK IS THAT?! The one pictured even has blood-red coloring to signify it's only reason for development...which of course is to assault, maim, and kill.

I'm waiting for the legislation to ban all knives. Plastic cutlery only in the home, schools, food service businesses and restaurants etc. Meat, poultry, fish and veg processing facilities excepted, but knives serial numbered, inventoried daily, secured on steel cables at work stations, locked in a safe at the end of each day.

I hate to say it, but that's exactly how they are handled in prison...

I am a serial knife carrier, Benchmade Resistor, Benchmade Auto Stryker and Leatherman. Somehow, with the help of family, friends and Rolling Rock beer I have managed to stay on the right side of the law.

Assault is a verb! I'll have you know I've had one of those screwdrivers for years and it's never assaulted anyone.
