Gun for Griz Country?

I'm fond of this 20ga double shotgun I picked up, 20ga slugs are pretty perfect
Just be sure to use slugs designed for this, no soft deer slugs.

I
watched a program on poaching in Africa about 10 years ago. Seems the weapon of choice for the ivory poachers was a Kalashnikov. A 30 round magazine didn't seem to have a problem taking down anything Africa had to offer.
They don't hunt on foot, and they are in packs, with full autos. They also don't need to stop it, just kill it. If a bear is charging at you, you probably won't be able to shoot all 30 rounds.

Does anybody still make an 8gauge lever with a 5 round man? 3 to 4 ounces of conical bullet at 1500 fps shot provide at least a litle smackdown on both ends.

Did anyone ever make an 8 gauge lever gun? If so, who?

I prefer to have bear spray and a gun. The gun is more of my night defense, while the spray is my daytime defense. Remember, if a bear attacks by day, he/she has been surprised and is defending themselves or their young and you can survive by playing dead or using bear spray. If a bear attacks you in your camp at night, he wants to eat you and you better use the best tool you got...gun?

It is true when people use pepper spray INCORRECTLY. Some people who think it is a bear deterrant and spray it on their clothes or boots BEFORE they see a bear. This may attract bears because of the scent they catch. THIS IS THE WRONG WAY TO USE IT.

It's not DEET.

big + 1.

I've got a good friend who has a .500 Linebaugh built on Redhawk with a 4" barrel by Hamilton Bowen.

Hamilton and other 'good' smiths will warn people against shooting this or any other 'heavy' round with anything other than a Bisley Ruger frame or Freedom Arms. It seems that the shape of the handle along with no 'hump' will help tame the recoil. If you happen to follow that link that I provided showing John Linebaugh's website, there is a 'You Tube' video of John shooting a full power revolver he made.....very impressive to say the least!!!!!!!

Check out the link I provided.......it'll put a big ol grin on your fase!!!:D:D:D

Check the muzzle rise and recovery time on those videos. I still think they are a bit to much of a good thing.:)

Do NOT use pepper spray on a brown bear.

All bears have an ear tag which lists the country of origin, and whether it's a black bear, brown bear, polar bear, or grizzly.

Also, washing instructions.

If you would like to see a non-staged demonstration, watch The Bearman of Kamchatka, in which Charlie Russell uses pepper spray against a large male grizzly that wanted to eat the orphan cubs he was 'mothering'.

There is a HUGE difference between this and defending yourself from a full speed full on aggressive attack.
