Gun Owner pet peeves

I understand the dislike for mislabeling a magazine as a clip and I too prefer the proper moniker but I'll wager that those most offended by such mislabeling call the powerplant in their vehicle a "motor"(it is not, it is an "engine" unless it is electric) or refer to the starting relay as a "solenoid"(I know it says that on the box but it isn't). Most people aren't as well versed in proper gunspeak so give 'em a break and politely point out their error or let it slide.

Thats what happens when a hobby gets popular. Anyone can play now. The serious, sensitive nature of our sport/hobby, has been infiltrated by casual "air hockey" mentality citizens. Who knows how this will turn out given time, stay tuned.

I bet that on a car site you would not get away with any of those mistakes. Or, at the very least you would end up on a pet peeves thread if you did.

Or maybe posters on a gun forum would be better served shooting instead of posting pet peaves, just sayin'.(and just having some fun at OUR expense)

I have a new peeve as of a couple of months when I was walking around the ancestral farm and came upon my neighbor (a cousin) and the husband of one of my other cousins. I was carrying one of my M1 carbines at the time and David asked to see it.

I told him that the mag was loaded but the chamber was clear, handed it to him and turned to answer a question that Donnie posed ... when I heard clicking and turned to find David rapidly altering the rearsight.

I asked him what h*ll he thought he was doing he said that the sight was not centered so he was fixing it for me ... <sigh> Moron.

4. Hunters who shoot at anything that moves. If you don't know 100% that you are shooting at a real deer, you've got no business pulling the trigger.

My Dad told me about going hunting with a few of his new buddies from work after moving to VA from GA to take the job with NACA in the mid-40s.

While moving thru a wooded area, Tex shot his 12ga and Dad asked him what he was shooting at since Dad had seen nothing.

Tex responded that he had taken a "Sound Shot" since he thought he heard something in those bushes over there.

Dad immediately left and never went hunting with those fellows again.

And the photocopy you made is not a Xerox

I thought it was when used on the proper machine.

Xe⋅rox

Xerography...learn a new thing every day :D

+1. I suggested as much a few pages ago, and my sentiments still stand. We all have things that upset us, no need to make a list like a bunch of schoolgirls. My apologies to anyone whose feelings are bruised by that, but seriously. We are all gunowners, and by necessity, adults. If you need 12 steps to make it through your day, and one of those steps is to make a list of things that get under your skin, I don't think this is the place for it.
