Up until very recently there was a gun store in Utah whose name was "Totally Awesome Guns."
Stop a minute and think about that... When you picture a gun shop that lives up to that descriptor -- totally awesome -- what do you think of?
I thought of a gunshop that was actually nice, where the paint wasn't peeling from the walls, the floors were clean... I think you get where I'm going. And on top of that, there was a good selection of products (not just guns) that would go farther than the usual one-size-fits-all Outers cleaning kit. You know: ammo, magazines, holsters, lubes -- and even Class 3 stuff like suppressors.
Well -- and I know I'm going to sound like a kid in a well-stocked candy store -- I think I've found a place that DOES live up to that reputation. It's FBMG.
When you walk in, directly in front of you there is a wall covered in military clothing in the new desert "flecktar" digital camo. Cool stuff. You could buy probably everything that the Utah National Guard dresses in on that wall.
In the room to the left is the treasure trove -- Along the back wall is the gun counter, with handguns in the counter and rifles displayed on the wall. On the floor, running perpendicular to the gun counter, are the racks with all kinds of goodies -- TONS of magazines stacked neatly in baskets, Police trade-in holsters (Don Hume black leather), ammo on the endcaps... I could go on and on.
To top it off -- they're a manufacturer of NFA items. That's right, they put together suppressors and full rock-and-roll automatics.
Then, if you go upstairs there is a classroom where a variety of classes are taught (including CCW), and then, the cherry on top -- a shooting simulator! I actually got to try it out, too. Three words: I WANT ONE.
Anyone who lives in Utah, anyone who might be passing through on I-15, or anybody who just wants to see a veritable oasis in a desert of dull/crummy/disappointing gun shops, stop at FBMG.
While you're there, you can ask what FBMG means, too. Larry and Jamie are great guys, and they're straight shooters -- both literally and figuratively.
So, now that I really DO sound like an awestruck child, all I can say is that it's definitely worth a trip.
What's YOUR awesome gun store like?
Wes
P.S. Utahns -- to get there, take I-15 to Draper (whichever respective direction that may mean). Get off on the 12300 South exit, and head East. You will immediately come to an intersection (Minuteman Drive). Turn right (heading south) and follow this road. FBMG will be on the left (east) side of the road, next door to the Hotel, in the same building as the boat building. You'll see the sign that says FBMG.
