How much ammo do you carry?

Depends, I've got two guns that I carry...

My Makarov (in 9mm Mak) with 8 rounds (7+1) of 95 gr XTPs

Sometimes I'll carry my Beretta Jetfire .25 ACP (in addition to the Mak) for a total of 16 rounds, (7+1 in both guns), the Jetfire being loaded with 35 gr XTPs...

Edit:

I feel better with a spare gun than I do with a spare mag

P-3AT and spare mag. 13 rounds of .380acp. 1 in the tube, 6 in each mag.

Sometimes add 11-18 of 9mm.

Day in, day out - - -

Commander and one spare magazine. USUALLY 8 + 1 and an 8-round spare, = 17. I mix-and-match, however, so it might be as few as 15.

When I'm making a trip to Dallas, I usually add another spare. :p

Weekends - - Same as above, or perhaps only a mod 37 plus a speed strip = 11.

Best,
Johnny

940- with 5 golddot 124 +p and 0,1,2 or 3 extra moonclips of 5 each
1911 8+1 and 1 or 2 - 8 rounders of 230 gr LRN.
G19 15 + 1 and 15 of golddot 124+p
S&W 13 3" 6 Handloaded 357'sw/158gr LSWC with 0,1,2,3 speedloaders of same.
I also have a "car" bag with any where from 50, 100, 150 rounds of 357's and 50 or 100 rounds of 45acp

Beretta 84F .380

13 + 1 Golden sabers in the gun, on me
13 in a spare magazine in the glove compartment of my car.

Sometimes, when traveling, I carry two or three spare magazines...

I'm odd...

Kimber TLE II (8+1) and a spare 8
-----or-----

Glock 26 with preban G19 mag (15+1)

-----or-----

Glock 26 with normal (10+1) mag and the 15rd backup.

-----SOMETIMES-----
when i'm feeling like i want to walk around in circles, i'll wear the Kimber with spare 8, and the G26 (10+1) on my ankle.

I carry 18 spare 8-round mags in a specially made belt. Then 3 more in my undies and 2 in each sock. Then for my BUG I have speed strips in the crack of my butt. A man has to be ready.

Actually, I carry 8 rounds in my Kimber .45 and a spare 7 round Wilson mag. That stuff up there was uh, the mall Ninja! :)

I always have right about 25-ish rounds for my carry gun.

Most of the time it's the Glock 23, with a 13-rounder in place and a spare 13-rounder in a DeSantis mag pouch, for a total of 27.

When I tote the SIG P220 or a 1911, it's an 8-rounder in the gun and two 8-rounders in a double mag carrier, for a total of 25.

Strangely enough, the ease of speed strip carry always entices me to carry more spare rounds whenever I carry a wheelgun. Four speed strips and two speedloaders always seem to find their way into my pockets for a sixgun, totaling 42 rounds including the load in the gun.

My glove box always contains another 50-round box of ammo for the carry gun du jour.

I don't carry daily, but when I'm is S.Africa I carry a G34 with 17+1 and two 20 rnd mags, sometimes a third in a vest pocket for a total of 58 or 78 rounds of 9mm Silvertips.
In the car there was a 34 and a 20 rnd mag in the senter console for a total of 132 rounds in gun and spare mags.

That is the good thing with choosing a common gun platform (Glock 9mm), you can share mags with those you travel with if need be.

Ruger P95, 15+1 and one spare mag makes 31. Speer Gold Dots.

Lots of FMJ in the trunk -- you never know when you'll be attacked by several dozen pieces of paper with concentric circles!

Depends on the gun:

Glock 19- 10+1 in gun, 1 10 rd. mag ,115 gr. Win. Silvertip
S&W 642-5 in gun, 1 5 rd. speedloader, 110 gr. Federal Hydra-Shok
S&W M60-5 in gun, 1 5 rd. speedloader, 125 gr. Remington Golden Saber

Well I usually carry a 340SC. Sometimes a Kahr k40, sometimes a Kimber CDP, sometimes a Colt LW Commander, and a few others, although 95% of the time it's the 340SC. One big exception - whenever it can't be known I'm carrying but would still be legal I always have the NAA .22mag - this is rare for me but not unheard of. There is always the occasional Ball game or a Club the girlfriend wants to patronize.

Regardless I always carry a reload; but that means 1 speed strip, speed loader or mag; depending on the carry piece. I also do always have at least two reloads in the car.

I do however wonder about some people however. I figure if I get into a gunfight that requires more than 5 to 10 rounds before I can extricate myself I'm probably "blank"ed anyways. Carrying 40+ rounds seems a bit overkill to me, I'm not a cop I don't have to persue anyone. All I have to worry about is getting home safely.

Anyways that's just me.

It depends

17 rounds of 230gr HP if I have the Govt. model.
(1 in the pipe, 8 round mag in the well, one 8 round mag in a knife pouch)

25 rounds of 230gr FMJ with the Govt. model if I'm out in the woods.
(1 in the pipe, 8 round mag in the well, two 8 round mags in a dual pouch)

15 rounds of 230gr HP if I have the CCO which is most often.
(1 in the pipe, 7 round mag in the well, one 8 round mag in a knife pouch)

11 rounds of .38 +P HP if I have the J-frame in a pocket.
(5 in the cylinder, 6 more in a speedloader in another pocket)

11 this time of year. 5 .357s in Smith 340, 6 in speed strip, including one CCI shot load for copperheads or water mocs.

Another 18+ of .45 for Glock 36, which is commonly within sprinting distance. One of the secondary mags is loaded with CCI shot loads, which cycle great in the gun and throw an awesome little pattern. :)

33 rounds
15+1 in the G19 and a 15+2 as the spare.

17 rounds
8+1 in the 1911 and an 8 round spare.

15 rounds
7+1 in the p32 and 7 in the spare.

10 rounds
5 rounds in the 905, 5 in a spare moon clip.

Rare: I go between these depending on what I am wearing. If I have to tuck in the shirt and the pockets can keep it secure, it is the p32. If I can't securely pocket carry and it has to go on the ankle, it is the 905.

Often: The G19 or the 1911, depending on mood.

For some people:

The extra mag adds extra reliability. If you ain't carrying one, you haven't shot enough to experience a failure.

And for others with the "if X won't get me out of a situation, I shouldn't be carrying." Sorry, but I don't want to go down for lack of shooting back. I can opt not to fire what I have, I can't opt to fire what I don't have.

Hmmm, looks like Im partial to the Gold Dot JHP bullet.

They may not be the best, just the best lookin'. :D

I agree with MJRW. After having experienced two different catastrophic magazine failures (Glock 22, seventh round took a nose-dive in the mag, required disassembly to clear; Colt 1911, baseplate spontaneously separated during fire, ejecting remaining rounds onto the deck) I ALWAYS carry at least one spare mag.

So for my two main carry pieces, that's 31 rounds (M9) or 27 (M11). Speer GDJHP 124 gr +P all the way.

I carry a full gun load. If i'm going somewere i think i might need a reload, i just don't go their.

Uless, i'm hunting or hiking, they i carry plently of ammo.

Lennyjoe,

I got my Glock about 3 months ago and I wanted to get some hi-caps for it but I didn't want to pay some the prices that I saw so Im going to wait until September to pick some up. Until then , I'll just have to take my chances with the 10 rd. mags!

Depending on mood, weather and place...

Kimber 1911: 8+1 Golden Saber .45 ACP, 230 gr (+ 16 in 2 extra mags)

SIG P-229: 10+1 Golden Saber .40 S&W, 165 gr (+ 10 in 1 extra mag), or
10+1 Winchester .357 SIG, 125 gr JHP (+ 10 in 1 extra mag)

SIG P-225: 8+1 Golden Saber 9mm, 124 gr (+ 8 in 1 extra mag)

SIG P-220: 8+1 Golden Saber .45 ACP, 230 gr (+ 30 in 4 extra mags)

Glock 22: 15+1 Golden Saber .40 S&W, 165 gr (+ 20 in 2 extra mags)
Substitute Cor-Bon 165 gr JHPs for G.S. in alligator/javalina/bear country.

Walther P-99: 16+1 Golden Saber 9mm, 124 gr (+ 32 in 2 extra mags) :what:

S&W 686: 7 Winchester Super-X 125 gr JHP (+ 14 in 2 speedloaders)
